3:30 Turin, I don't want to assume, but it seems like the witch hunters might be there for the *ICE WITCH*
The Greatswords indeed use Zweihanders! Zweihander translated is literally "two-hander." Some of the models even use Flammenschwerts, "flame-blades," which are the ones with the wave-style blades.
The formal name for the Zweihänder would be the Bidenhänder, Which roughly translates to Both Hander, Biden being an old German Word for both. Also the original name for Flammenschwerter is Flamberge (has no real translation), but I really prefer the term the soldiers used. This being Gassenhauer which would translate to "Alley puncher" because these swords were mainly used by specialists to create alleys in spear walls so the other infantryman could reach the pikemen.
@@mog9629 Yeah, and the mercenaries who did that dangerous job of creating the gaps in the pike walls were called Doppelsöldner (double mercenaries would be the literal translation) because they got twice the pay of a regular merc.
@@seonor imo the translation should be more like "double paychecks" because even tho the word Söldner means mercenary you can break that word up into Sold (payment) and the ending is just making that into a word for a person. Because the Mercenary is still just one person but gets double the payment so I think it's more meant like "guy that gets 2 paychecks instead of one" and not like "guy that is actually 2 guys" which would the double mercenary imply.
When I was younger I actually thought that the term Doppelsöldner was referring to the double handed sword they were carrying (because they had like "double the swordlength" compared to the normal soldier)
@@mog9629 Flamberge (Froberge) is just the french version of the name which got popularized in the "chanson de geste" (french medieval literature about heroic tales). Speaking of the name, in portuguese they are referred as "tarasca" in reference to the mythological dragon Tarasque because in the tale it could only be fought by knights using this sword.
Or, it is just tow-handed swords.
I was thinking about going to sleep but I had a feeling Turin would upload a vid right about now and lo and behold, he did. What a splendid bedtime story.
Are you in Africa or the middle east?
@@thegamingchemist759europe
@@thegamingchemist759 im from europe and always watch before bed
same, Asian here, I sleep at 3-4am lol
Watching the sons of Sigmar getting a W always put a smile on my otherwise frozen-in-a-stern-aspect face.
Regarding your comment about Melee Defense should go down when a unit is running. When a unit is running they have their backs to the enemy, and Total War Warhammer has a facing system where units have full melee defense from the front, some melee defense from the side, and much lower from the back. So a retreating unit or a unit that dives into the center of a blob will be getting hit more from behind.
Not only that but I believe attacks from the rear always use your full charge bonus.
@@Caldwing Unfortunately, no. But a unit chasing a broken unit has charge bonus activated, regardless of direction if attack.
Melee Defense is reduced by 50% when attacked from the flank.
Pursuing units also benefit from always having their charge bonus.
@@togaturtle wha!?!? I had no clue.
@@mightymak99 It's the reason why dogs and cav are so good at clear up. Even when infantry is faster than what they're chasing, their charge bonus isn't as good as the cav.
Super excited for the new empire update/dlc at the end of the year such a fun faction.
As much as I want Kislev and Cathay to get new stuff, I hope things like war wagons and witch hunters and grenade outriders stay a special Empire thing. They don't have the discipline and combined unit formations that the tabletop version used; compared to Cathay's Harmony and Kislev BoB, they'd just lack individual character if their exotic weapons or things similar to them were suddenly more wide-spread.
Hey Turin awesome video! Just wanted to say how cool its been watching your channel grow and the content you make get better. I have been watching since the Dawn of War 3 days lol
For Sigmar! Great to see a nice well-rounded Empire army on the battlefield, especially Gelt! Don't mess with the Supreme Patriarch.
I do really enjoy watching the human factions face each other
“The dreaded Reaganomics” lmao
@Turin to answer your food for thought. When a unit is attacked in the rear the melee defense value is halved.
Its really funny to me, when you say "hmm, im really curious, as to how this bout will transpire" ,as if u didnt know already lmao
Awesome match. Have we ever seen a “Decisive Victory” in a high-tier multiplayer battle?
@Turin Back of the unit have 30% of normal defence, sides have 70%.
3:36 Chad walk.
>Running units would defend themselves
In the old days it was known that getting in the way of routing infantry was dangerous because they would literally overrun you like a panicked herd of cattle.
14:05 A unit chasing a fleeing unit already has charge activated. No need to penalize fleeing unit further.
Empire!!! Sorry been too long since I have seen the Empire play
@Turin my man running units turn their back which means their melee defence I don't remember the exact numbers but I think half of the base. And NB if a running or even a shattered unit is locked by a net it does start to hit back whatever it is chased by 😂
the ULTIMATE floppy hat bois
The Hammer of Witches! Not a joke great cannons for sure, on a straight map they can melt large units)
Units kinda do have less melee defense when they break because you get half melee defense if your attacked in the back.
Looks like the Sunmaker is many times left unused in the reinforcement pool. Could it be worth it in some matchups to swap it for a regular Helstorm to free up some resources?
Wonder how much value did the Silver Bullets get
They confirmed Kislev for the old world army list.
I would like to see some kind of buff carts for the Empire infantry. So when they have their enabler around, they are slightly above average, when the enabler dies, they are slightly below average. It is always a tricky balance, because you are paying extra for the enabler which generates 0 value by itself. If CA decides against the buff carts, then maybe the Empire characters could be the buff source. It would fit the general feel of the faction. State Troops fight better when properly led by Captain or General, which makes sense.
Gelt with double witch hunter is BACK ON THE MENU
'a unit running should have its melee defence reduced'
chasing units get automatically rear charged yes?
So a good old fashioned 16th century battle then in an otherwise fantasy battles game.
what was subaru thinking to bring those groms to the front llg play
3:38 bro why do the witch hunters walk like Mr X from Resident Evil
How do halberdiers fare against Kislev? Ap must work well but do they get mulched by the Kislev shooting on approach?
I personally never done well with Halberds against Kislev, both on Land battles and Domination. No shields is a big draw back for infantry with low armor against Kislev. But that's just from my experience.
Another name for Calvary is Golgotha.
You should do a video about your WFB minis.
How do steam tanks compare to little grom? Could be something to be said for it, as you can't dive the steam tank with dervish cav in the same way you can vs regular artillery.
Well, the Tank is tankier and can defend itself in melee but with canons you have a volley of 4 canonballs, maybe the canons are more cost effective
@@MiguelSanchezDelVillar And they can beat up little grom in melee. Tank fight!
Kinda felt like the whole match went so far south in the first minute it was kidna over.
looks awesome 3:22 cat 3:27 40% hp, from 3 volleys off wagons, maybe the dmg need some nerfs or the accuracy etc. and maybe the chariot effect need to be more in focus.
this kind of dmg should be the hellcannon vs. which we never see used :P3
iirc when a unit gets hit in the back it suffers a melee defence penalty, so broken units should be easier to kill.
the issue occurs where the attacking units don't really engage properly and blob to try to chase leaving no space for them to actually do attack actions.in regards to killing while chasing broken things maybe units need a on the move attack animation for things like that because currently what happens is run-stop-attack- try to catch up again which means to kill broken units you need a lot more speed then them
Are Luminarks totally useless? Been playing some Warhammer TW2 (pve), and they feel sooo underperforming.
2 of them upgraded will straight up delete a hero in 1 volley
i want to use witch hunters now
Hey Turin, are you going to play BG3? Would love to hear you playing that.
I just want gunpowder to be good.
"In a 1v1 fight they will probalbly loose" thats every empire unit in a nutshell
Regarding warhammer old world, I made so reaserches on the announced factions and I am sorry to tell you this but Kislev is once again nowhere to be seen. Honestly, seeing the factions roster kind of lessen my interest in this new release, lit focuses on the old world and the Vampier Counts aren’t even part of the main story line, in the time of Magnus the Pious.
always bashing on the poor bretonnians!..:p
