- How to make a simple Ikebana inspired design featuring gerbera
Ingredients - gerbera, cotinus foliage, phoenix palm leaf, tamarisk foliage
This container is really special - and it has seen a bit of trouble with a break, but with its hidden water source and kenzan pin holder it is still great for creating an Ikebana inspired design.
The key is asymmetry - triangles hidden within the layout of the materials. It’s a style that is modern, relevant and can be made with simple materials.
These red gerbera and matching foliages sit well on the earthen pottery. And, it’s nice to reuse an old favourite container again!

I so appreciate that you try to save broken vessels. Like you said, the Japanese don’t throw away and save broken pottery or ceramics through the kintsugi method. You could probably do it.

Your Ikebana inspired videos are always some of my favorite and you have such a liberating attitude with encouraging flexibility with this very disciplined style of arranging. You have a wonderful ability to bring flowers into everybody’s life that are attainable. How do you make one of those arrangements that are seen in weddings on the ground going down the aisle. They’re beautiful so I am interested in how to do some for my daughter’s wedding.
That’s a good design / video suggestion. It would be similar to any tall design - so you could use a taller container, and then keep your main flowers upright. You want to keep the aisle uninhibited so it can be walked down easily.
There are a few different ways to approach this - you could even use plants. The width of the aisle is important on what you can place there.
