For me Custard Pie is one of the most underrated Zeppelin tunes that didn't get nearly enough live time when the original band were together - they were clearly trying to make up for this in '96....
They could've easily placed in the setlist in the 75, 77 or 80 tours especially in 77. Cut out the long drum and bow/thermin guitar solos and either play that or Wanton Song or For your life in between after Kashmir or Trampled Underfoot and before Achilles last stand and Stairway.
Saw Page and Plant 5 times betweem 1995-98... as close to a Zepp. Concert you can get...saw Zeppelin in 1977... page Plant Tour was Fantastic...5...STARS...😎
Caught both 1979 Knebworth shows - by accident ! Sent off for tickets by post for the first one but these didn't arrived so when the second date was announced, went to Virgin Records in Liverpool and bought some tickets in person. The following day the tickets for the first show arrived in the post so I did what any normal person would do and went to both...
God damn this kicks ass. Not seen Plant hit on harmonica in ages. So bad-ass. Page at 2:12 gave me shivers, the hair on neck stood up. Hot Damn, Jimmy! makes you wish the track would never end..just keep on going and going. Thanks Cheryumin for the share.
i grew up on this frigghin amazing music, I was jamming to black sabbath, rolling stones, blue oyster cult, while the kids at school were jamming to Michael Jackson, Madonna etc...... .........
I heard that plant said that it's okay when two have a romance to let them go off, meaning he and page. This in reaction of not including Jones. I agree. But they also said they did nog include Jones cause they did not want to make it look like a Led Zeppelin reunion. But for 90 % they play LZ music. Jones contributed a lot to LZ: black dog, no quarter, the crunch, in the light, in through the out door, thank you, since I've been loving you.. and many more!
Robert Plant on harmonica is 🤩 Custard Pie has always been one of my favorites on PG. This is a really kick ass and sexy version! ❤ Love Michael Lee. RIP
For those of us who never saw LED Zeppelin as a group because we were just babies and were lucky enough to catch either of the two tours or both that Page and Plant did in the 90's know how magical they were and only imagine how truly special it was for those who saw the original line up of LED ZEPPELIN.... I as most fans hold out hope but don't hold my breath on any Reunion TOUR and have accepted the fact that the two tours in the 90's are as close as we will ever come to seeing a Zeppelin Reunion of sorts.... The Un Leaded tour I was thankful that I got to go with my dad who only told me stories about seeing Led Zeppelin in the 70's
Emin Elektronik Adana
I love the Page and Plant tours, it has some of Plants best post-73 moments, and Page's best post-75 moments. Plant was having a slightly off night here vocally, but listen to the concert a few nights later 2-17-96 in Nogoya, even the last song Rock and Roll he is going for every note and hitting them with force and confidence. Page was really good at all of these shows, some shows he stood apart due to using a better tone and being less sloppy. The 98 shows were awesome as well, it was really a shame they cut out, but I felt at the same time it was a good way to end Zeps legacy as Plant may have had some vocal issues we didn't know about, listen to him belt out the high notes in the 98 shows versus his post 2000 shows where he really had to cut down his vocal range. Save for the 2007 Zep reunion, he REALLY gave it his all and kicked some serious ass that night, he more than made up for Jimmys safe playing in that show.
I saw Robert Last year and still has this same range,I would love a Zep reunion! And i Really like how,in these tours,he tried to reach the highest notes he could instead of holding back, like he did after the vocal surgery 1974..especially in rock n roll!
Sorry, but Plant does not have the same range as he did in the early 70's, not even close. Not knocking him at all, he adapts well, because he's a pro, but he'd even tell you he can't.
Yeah more recently he just changed the range which works great.. Back in 1996 he was still trying to hit the notes. Smoking cigarettes didn't help any either.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing, Ive never seen RP play Harmonica and Custard Pie, the riff, the lyrics; crawling, hard hitting, sexual, RP and JP at their best! Fantastic footage and capture of a wonderful point in time😊👍✌️✌️
Always my favorite song on GRAFFITI I don`t know "WHY" they didn`t play that cut live when BONZO was there!!!!!! in say 1975 onwards. definitly they could`ve played CP at KNEBWORTH, 1980!!!!
understandably after all these years Plants voice a;int what it once was but everything else is better than anything I'm hearing from today's rock bands
Damn I wish I was there. Thank God for CZcams, that I guess to see and hear this. Even more so, because I don't think Zep played Custard Pie live back in the day?
This just reveals how SUPREME Bonzo was...he was able to hit the drum so hard,so intense. As Chare Watts once said,"Bonzo...you won't get another one of him"
YE! jimmys on form here! its just not the same without bonzo and jonesy though, they brought that extra power to the songs that made the magic, i still think thats no excuse to not perform together though.... page and plant were born to play together instead of doing silly side projects..... awesome post!
I think Robert would have been banging a tambourine but he threw it up in the air at the start and couldn't catch it. It hit the deck and so he left it.
Mohamed Abdel Wahab, a legendary Egyptian musician. Zeppelin were heavily influenced by Egyptian music and Plant specifically mentioned that his vocal histrionics were inspired by the Egyptian songstress Umm Kulthum, who had a 7 octave vocal range and was admired by musicians as varied as Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel and of course Zeppelin.
Supposedly (whole "Lotta love " is one of James Patrick Page's finest riffs) ,but this one takes a beating ,and is excellent!.pure groupie fucking song!
This version of Custard Pie definitely blows the studio version away by a country mile. At the time when it was originally recorded in '74 for Physical Graffiti, Plant just had surgery on his vocal chords and of course he always smoked like a chimney which made his voice very hoarse especially everytime he tried to sing the high notes.
They could've used as the opening song in the fall 1980 American tour which would been great as swift lead into Nobody's fault but mine(another harmonica solo song).
For me Custard Pie is one of the most underrated Zeppelin tunes that didn't get nearly enough live time when the original band were together - they were clearly trying to make up for this in '96....
Noel Majers that is literally SOOOO tru nobody knows this one
Houses of the Holy was a great Song too, and to my knowledge was never played live?!?
@@Andy-dh7ti great song

copy cat
Best song writing duo in modern times. Wish they could come together one more time... b4 it's to late... we need a good Zep tour .. one last time ..
That harmonica solo is just wow
Just wicked 😮 makes me wanna play with a harmonica.
Damn, even Robert's voice crack is so satisfying to hear
I love all the Page/Plant years throughout the ‘90’s.. Michael Lee was excellent drummer for them as he wasn’t trying to be Bonzo!
just like how they werent trying to redo zeppelin. really fit well
Chris Williams 👌🌟🙌🏻

that harmonica solo.
Robert Plant is the ultimate frontman of Rock n Roll.....he does it all better than anyone else past, present, or future.....
The voice is always AMAZING
God damn this kicks ass.
Not seen Plant hit on harmonica in ages. So bad-ass.

Maui Mig heard it at 2:12 am ✌️🇺🇸
Dont you just love the sound of a gud wah pedal
HE moves like a wet duck
A young Robert Plant stole Sonny Boy Williamson's blues harp in his changing room: this is the result.
Did you watch On The Road With Brian Johnson? That's where I heard it when he interviewed Robert Plant.
STILL SMOKIN' HOT
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is probably my favorite version of Black dog because of Page's kick ass guitar tone.
The red Les Paul sounds better than the #1 sunburst

Custard pie en vivo ahhh maldita sea, que experiencia tan satisfactoria.
Lo mismo digo. Una canción maravillosa.
Robert Plant on harmonica is 🤩 Custard Pie has always been one of my favorites on PG. This is a really kick ass and sexy version! ❤ Love Michael Lee. RIP
Michael Lee on drums.....the guy was from another universe.....really miss him.....so does Rock nRoll.....

They still had it !
JPJ is needed on the bass and clavinet.
You can really notice how much JPJ & JB contributed to LZs sound when they're not there.

SMOKIN'!!! 🔥💥
Rob is a wearing a tshirt for an Egyptian musician Mohammed Abdel Wahab, one of the most exceptional musicians in Arab history
When you are at home and there is an air raid and missiles flying over your city, this music is terribly soothing, I don't know why.
Plantie blows a mean harp!
That he does
that was good... thank you for the post
Marky Mark - Page/Plant played throughout the ‘90’s..
Wow Superphantastic

fucking nailed that harmonica part
David Tulip at least
Good stuff Thanks!
Saw this tour. That drummer was awesome.
My favvvvc
I saw them in Manchester in 98 fuk me I am still shaking!
AMO!!!!

That's Micheal Lee. Sadly, he passed away about 5 years ago already
Roger
Plant is buff, been working out and looking good.
Plant is an underrated harmonica player bro.
How did I miss this one that's been around so long?
I wish that they would have played this on one of the two times that I saw them…
For those who always wondered who played harmonics for zep?... Good ole robert plant!..❤
Живое исполнение впервые вижу.
АААААА Перенесите меня в то время. что бы я мог поцеловать ихние ботинки.
One of my fav zep songs of all time
Damn I saw this concert in the STATES in SACRAMENTO , CALIFORNIA...they didn't play this song. This is SO HOT.
They were still in shape... although they bite their life
DAMNIT I THOUGHT THAT WAS GOING TO BE OUT ON THE TILES FOR A MINUTE! SUCH AN UNDERRATED ZEP SONG (and the only one I can play on guitar) xD
I was there!
Oddly, although this song is the lead to PHYSICAL GRAFFITI Led Zep never played it in concert when the group was together.
Kickass way to open what is arguably the greatest double album ever
they never did play custar pie live. along with boogie with stu custard pie is my favorite on graff. curses that kashmir track!!!!!
Led Zeppelin cover band. Horrible
Team Bitcoin troll
Yes narcissist. You are right and hundreds of millions of people wrong! Led Zeppelin is the best band in history.
A1 guys!
Like that harmonica
understandably after all these years Plants voice a;int what it once was but everything else is better than anything I'm hearing from today's rock bands
Jimmy Page is sick! Check out this ballad I found
Nikki Jumper - ♥ The Ballad of Jimmy Page ♥
Oh wow! This sounds FANTASTIC!
Damn I wish I was there. Thank God for CZcams, that I guess to see and hear this. Even more so, because I don't think Zep played Custard Pie live back in the day?
too bad we don't have any live Zep of this. Why didn't they ever do this in concert?

The drummer MICHAEL LEE is like a BONZO Reincarnated 😎👍
I like how Plant threw that tambourine in the air and totally botched the catch lol that little run he did cracked me up. Played it off cool though...
These tickets were very expensive, the 70s shows sold out in 2.5hrs
YE! jimmys on form here! its just not the same without bonzo and jonesy though, they brought that extra power to the songs that made the magic, i still think thats no excuse to not perform together though.... page and plant were born to play together instead of doing silly side projects..... awesome post!
If you google search this 96 show, you can get this whole show pro shot on DVD. Micheal Lee was fucking great!!
5:31 - I miss a cowbell in this part
Led zep nice job in tokyo.
but where is John paul jones?
ThunderBooster3444 - Doing his own thing..
:(
Plants vocals are shot on this
Very much so. There’s a clip of them doing it the night before... night and day.
Plants trousers are always tighter than his skin
what's on Bobby's shirt?
great song...always loved it. can anyone understand what he's singing?????
🤘🎸🤘
ROCKS
DAT GUITAR TONE.
Does anyone know who that drummer is ? He's doing it a bit different to the original by Bono but I like it. He's added a few extra bits.
Marcus Spain - Because he didn’t try to be Bonzo.. He was great for Page/Plant throughout the ‘90’s..
Damn, they really burned that fuckin place to the GROUND. Kicked ass and took all the names and phone numbers with this.
I think Robert would have been banging a tambourine but he threw it up in the air at the start and couldn't catch it. It hit the deck and so he left it.
February 13
When you wonder why plant doesn’t want to do zeppelin, refer to this
Signal please
That was some hot shit.
Who the hell is that on Robert's shirt?
Mohamed Abdel Wahab, a legendary Egyptian musician. Zeppelin were heavily influenced by Egyptian music and Plant specifically mentioned that his vocal histrionics were inspired by the Egyptian songstress Umm Kulthum, who had a 7 octave vocal range and was admired by musicians as varied as Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel and of course Zeppelin.
Thats Coverdale, not Plant. No wonder Plant said Coverdale was a copycat.
F^CKING BRILLIANT :)
I'm gonna shake on down nom nom yummy 😂🎉❤❤o
Ummm..this tour was THE REUNION TOUR, not the recent one. No comparision. 16 years make a diff.
Supposedly (whole "Lotta love " is one of James Patrick Page's finest riffs) ,but this one takes a beating ,and is excellent!.pure groupie fucking song!
crowd were a bit quiet
lol right? They are in Japan, i think tho.. so..
You know Asians. They lack in grooving and rock n roll lol
Guitarists: Any one know the chords he hits just before 'I sure know right from wrong'....?
It's not what he plays on the album. Me, I have no idea.

This is good but it sorely misses John Paul Jones
why didnt zep play this live?
+Tim Oliver No idea
asking myself that same question right now as I listen to this
Not strong enough to substitute other songs on the repertory.
And the tours after 75 didn' t have many dates
They could've used as the opening song in the fall 1980 American tour which would been great as swift lead into Nobody's fault but mine(another harmonica solo song).
Had Bonzo lived and agreed to do the tour much to his and Plant's own chagrin and desperately wanting to be with their families.
problem is that page thinks it's his band and wont allow plant to express himself. Unfortunately it IS Page's band
Without Bonzo is a normal piece :-(
