    People always look at me weird when They find out I listen to this kind of music. I’m a ‘96 baby but I can still appreciate music that came before my time. Any time I hear that bass line my ears perk up and I stop whatever I’m doing.

    FWIW Daryl Hall hates the term “blue eyed soul”. He always responds by saying that soul has no color.

    • @gsparkman
      @gsparkman Před 3 lety +9

      I don't doubt that. He's right of course, but it denies the historical reality that "Soul Music" was a style associated with only black singers and groups for a very long time-long before Hall & Oates came along. This was a time when there wasn't a lot of cross-over of black music on radio stations; but thank God that changed quickly in the 60s or my musical landscape would not have been as rich. The first time I heard "Blue-eyed soul" applied to any non-black performer was with The Righteous Brothers in the early 60s. (I don't claim they were the first; only the first time I heard the term) First time listeners- of any color - of those two thought they were a black duo, and were surprised that the singing was coming from a couple of blue-eyed white dudes. Even in today's reactions on CZcams, you see the surprise on the faces the great black reactors on this channel to those early videos of The Righteous Bros.

    You would like "One on One" by them if you're looking for something more along the lines of "Sara Smile"
    Also worth mentioning: "Rich Girl", "Crime Pays," "Family Man", and "I Can't Go for That"
    Fun fact about "I Can't Go for That", the intro to it was the inspiration for the beat for "Billie Jean", which came out a year later. You can definitely hear the similarities.
    "Family Man" is more of a rock song, but also very good. You mentioned you like solos, and there's a good guitar solo there.

    Try "I Can't Go For That ----- Cee Lo Green Live From Daryl's House." That's one great funky jam session on a great song. Or just try "I Can't Go For That" original Daryl Hall and John Oates.

    If you like Daryl's ending ad libs, play Say It Isn't So and wait near the end. You'll see. He always likes to keep a song spontaneous during the recording and live. It is never the same each time. They met in 1967, became a duo in 1970, had their first hit in 1973, then 1976, several songs until they hit their stride in 1979 with their Voices album (At least 4 hits on there) until 1985 and 4 albums later and many awards. They put out several albums in the 90's but decided to tour together and do solo projects as well. If you want a song list I can send you one just let me know if you want it on here or sent to you some other way.
