Do you ha e an automation for Aqara switches and motion sensors to turn off the light in places like your laundry room after no motion for 2-3 minutes? I cannot figure it out. Any help appreciated!
@@andreww9844 For my motion automations in that laundry room and closet, I just have the automation to turn on the light when motion is detected, and turn off after 2 minutes.
@@ShaneCreates anyway to link to a Siri shortcut to see how to script that properly? I am struggling, haha. Thank you.
@@andreww9844 It's not a shortcut, just a native home automation. When you choose the light that turns on in the automation, there is an option to "turn off after" and you can choose the amount of time.
Poe lightning
Very cool! You should make a new series: âHomekit Cribsâ. đ
đ that sounds awesome!
Great idea!!
I agree! Iâd tune in
So happy this finally happened! Those 36 minutes flew by! Side note for the wifeyâŠTheresa says, âcamera woman to camera woman, nice jobâ.
Haha thanks George! I'll definitely pass along the message!
Thanks for doing this. Individual parts are always good, but seeing the whole thing together and how it interacts is really helpful and gives me some ideas for my own place. Nice to see the studio too!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching Greg. Can't wait to get the studio done!
âŠWOWâŠJust WowâŠ
Thatâs all totally awesome. Thanks đ heaps for sharing it all with us.
Fascinating! Youâve got just about everything covered.
Another masterpiece video Shane! Iâve been watching since you were in the front office area and it was the same time I really began my HK journey.Thank you for all the work you do to research and the top notch videos you create! See you on the next one. âđœ
Oh thatâs awesome man. Thanks so much for the support! đđ»
Wow! Thanks for sharing. That's pretty darn extensive!
The most I liked about your house was your puppy!!!
Thanks! Awesome job, Shane! Thanks to you AND your wife for showing us around!
Thank you for the super thanks Hugh! đđ
I love, love, love your videos. I just wanted to share a little excitement. I was able to successfully integrate my Mitshubishi Split units into HomeKit using the hooks. Today I was able successfully control them via my ecobee thermostat through home kit using automations. When the temp hits 71 on the ecobee the mini split shuts off, when it hits 70 degrees on the ecobee it turns back on to 72 degrees. I too have to have the wifeâs approval on my HomeKit stuff. She wants it to JUST WORK so I was limited to very simple automations. This was a big win. Now to let the creative juices flow.
Awesome video! Cool to see that we use (some of the) same products!
Thanks for sharing Shane!!
Hell yeah! Iâve been waiting for this one!
The âdonât overthink itâ part with the flood lights ⊠great advice. I often overthink it.
Great video Shane, thanks for sharing. So many cool ideas that I want to copy.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you got some ideas from it. đ
Thanks for mentioning the plan for the additional smart lock at the back door :)
You know I love a good smart home tour, thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your studio tour once it's complete. Congratulations on all the success of your channel!!
Thank you! đ
I added this tour to my smart home tour playlist, itâs so fun to see what other creators are actually using in their homes
Been waiting for this Shane..great tour gives me some great ideas for my smart home
Glad to hear Graham. Thanks for watching!
Even as a Homeassistant user I love how powerful Homekit natively is!
Shane! You're the Man!!!! This is an awesome setup. I'm possibly 50% to your progress. Trying to be like you when I grow up. Lol. I've been getting my HomeKit tips from you since I've discovered your channel. Keep up the awesome work!!! My house will soon be fully automated thanks to you.
Haha thanks so much for the support!
Awesome set up!!!!!
Thanks for the tour it was amazing canât wait to see whatâs in the future for home kit.
Thanks for watching Austin!
Shane, thank you very much for your continuous content! You are my favourite CZcamsr!!! đ
Thanks so much!! I appreciate the support! đđ»
Awesome video. You certainly have proven that HomeKit works well. It looks like we have the same sound bar, which sounds great. Thank you for sharing your smart home with us.
Thanks for watching!
Aww...puppy! âș
Great video! Iâm working on my smart home!
Best video yet! Thanks for sharing your home with us đ
Thank you!! đđŒ
We're a HUGE fan of the Lutron as well!
Love this! Great work man.
Thanks Stephen!
very nice tour - its very useful ...like it. Thank you for showing this ...
Thanks for watching!
Great video! I enjoyed seeing the Whatley manner! đđđ
Thanks Larry!
Nice!
Itâs nice to see whatâs changed and what youâve updated. Iâm surprised that nothing major has changed outside of Matter. Iâm about to upgrade everything because my smart plugs and lights arenât up to date. Not sure if they will work with Thread once I get the new home pods. Guess Iâll have to get rid of my regular HomePod for the minis. Seems odd.
Thanks, Shane! Awesome video đđŒ
Iâm wondering if there are any native HomeKit winter heaters exist?
Wow amazing
Give the Level Bolt/Lock a try, mine works amazing! I love how they hide the battery inside of the deadbolt, and it seems to last forever.
That's actually the one I have (still in the box) waiting for me to install it.
Interesting to see how you in usa approach the world of smart home control. I see mainly a big bunch of smart devices in the video. In europe we like our homes smart without seeing all those devices so our minimalistic approach (based on the idea of energy control) with the help of smart home control is more based on OEM zigbee drivers and circuit boards that we can connect on high end devices that we hide and donât see and works like a blanket around us that increases high energy cost. Interesting video
Love it!!! Gives me lots of ideas for my future smart home one day. đđđ€ Currently in a smart apartment, but the wife and I are planning on moving out this coming summer! Got my eyes on a lot of things. đđ Thanks for the tour!!! Satiated my curiosity about aaaaaall the smart things Iâve seen on your channel the past year-ish (since Iâve been a subscriber).
Thanks for watching (and subscribing)! Very exciting moving to a new house. Good luck to you and your wife with the upcoming move!
@@ShaneCreates Absolutely! Love all the videos - keep âem cominâ!
And thanks on the well wishes for the move. 4 years of an apartment and weâre ready to move on!
Awesome video
Awesome setup Shane!
Thanks for watching Brad!
Dang this is LEGIT !
Hi man! Great video as always! Your wall mounted iPad and the interface looks awesome! Mind doing a video on it?
Thanks! I've done a couple.

Awesomeness!!!!
I would upgrade all those older Caseta dimmers for the new Caseta Diva dimmers.
Awesome home BTW! đ
Maybe in time. I just have so many pico remotes and fan controllers that I'd still have the other style in many switches.
Thank you for sharing your smart home. A pleasure being invited into your home.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Shane! Congrats for the video! for Lutron switches, where did you buy the inner wall brackets? common building material store? I had to put 6 of them together and I couldn't find it on the internal wall support...
This the type of smart home I want to have one day that works well with homekit and my other Apple devices. I got into the ecosystem, not tryna have that debate, after buying my MacBook M2 then months later I bought a new Apple TV model as ours was outdated as well as 2 homepod minis for the stereo effect and me knowing how well Apple devices work together the experience will be amazing. My dads Lenovo desktop is also a little outdated so I want to buy him an iMac. My craziness is justified given how well all these devices work so well together and one day, ONE DAY, Iâll have an amazing smart home to the likes of yours thatâll work well with my entire familyâs Apple devices. Funny, weâre an Apple family however donât use Apple devices and the home we moved into worked better with Android devices; the way things turned out but it is what it is. Thanks for the amazing video though and keep up the astounding work! â€
Thanks for watching! Good luck on building out that Apple start home! đ
Finally đ
Excellent video and I am looking forward to linking up some Matter devices - I have all HomeKit now - lights and sound - I hope to connect door bell and camera asap
Thanks for watching Frank! I'm also looking forward to connecting some Matter devices. Stay tuned!
That is awesome!! Can I ask what kind of router do you have?? Just curious how about your Wi-Fi signal and keeping the connection to everything.
Smart homes should be more common, I'm impressed by your set up
Great video showing all your different smart home accessories that you always do reviews off on your channel.
Can I ask, what app was runn on your wall mounted iPad the interface looks great
Keep up the good work đđ»
Thanks Mark! I'm using the Viz Designer for homekit app. Here's a past video on it: czcams.com/video/F5xCMwGQig8/video.html
Can you do a video regarding how to install poe cameras and how you pulled wiring for those?
Have you considered Lutron RA3 switches? I haven't seen anyone make a video on them but they seem pretty interesting
Whatâs the difference between HomePod and ATV as hub. In apple site the description on HomePod says only HomeKit thread are supported. For ATV it says HomeKit or thread devices supported. Is there any difference?
will u be upgrading the caseta dimmers to the diva casetas? i got one and it really is much nice to dim with the slider now than to just hold that damn button on the first version, cool setup!
Very nice video, Shane. Is everything you showed working equally good? Never connection problems?
Thanks Tom. Yes, everything works pretty well for the most part. I won't say I never have any issues, but if I do I'm usually able to resolve them pretty quickly.
Shane you mentioned you weatherproofed your Aqara door sensors for your external gates. What all did that entail? IE 3D print a cover, open it up and fill it with epoxy, slap a ziploc bag on it? I âmm looking for ideas as i recently ruined an Aqara door sensor outside on my gate and was going to look into doing the same thing. Thanks
Nice setup. However I went out of my way to make all my Smart-home local control so I do not need an internet connection. How much of this can you control when the internet goes down? Oh and I even made my mail box notify me when mail arrives (I have a video of it.)
Thanks for sharing Shane, great video. By the way, which outdoor contact sensor are you using for your gates? You mentioned Aqara but canât seem to find any outdoor versions online.
I'm just using regular Aqara contact sensor that I weatherproofed. Here's a video on that: czcams.com/video/4WY4aNWQcrc/video.html
Have you ever looked into Ubiquiti products for networking, access points and there POE cameras. Wish I could send you pictures of my set up. I have my current home using there products right now with cameras outside and access points in the ceilings. I was also able to view all the cameras on my HomeKit app
Love the smart home tours.
Where did you install the new Diva smart switch and how has it held up? I'm installing my 1st today.
It's actually installed in my studio. Still working great.
You can probably expose the floodlights in your PoE cameras to HomeKit with Home Assistant or HomeBridge
Nice men đ Iâm doing an smart house, well trying with just ïŁż
Another great video! Keep them coming. But yeahâŠ.about those Ecobee sensors; theyâre trash. I have the newer current ones with my Ecobee Premium and they absolutely suck at detecting motion in HomeKit. Just trash.
Thanks for watching. Yea probably not the best for motion automations. I use them mainly for temp control through Ecobee settings.
Much needed vid thanks for sharing and giving us great ideas, Iâm surprised you didnât use the motion sensor on the actual Ecobee to activate the iPad to turn it on instead on the Aqara sensor.
Thanks for watching! I tried that a long time ago, but it just didn't seem too responsive. Not sure if it's the Ecobee sensor itself or the placement of it. The Aqara sensor was much more responsive.
@@ShaneCreates oh wow thanks for the insight
one thing , ilove your house and everything it has the best home kit accessories and everything but it needs some modern kitchen...and the tv needs an upgrade like 2016 come on
but ither than that great video
Wow! ok I knew you had a full set up, but DANG!! Thanks for the tour....And my jaw dropped when you said you have an 18 year old (you don't look that far off of 18 yourself!! lol)
Haha thank you!
I am moving into a newly built home currently and they have the laundry room set up as the "network closet". When we had the internet guy come out to install a modem they said wifi isn't the best for that room because it's closed off and the signal can't go far. You have your modem and all the smart hubs in your room though. Do you have issues with the hubs connecting to the smart devices (ex. hue hub in a closed room with hue bulbs that are over 75 feet away.)?
Nice tour Shane.
Any toughs about Ikea devices? (I don't know if they are common in the US)
Thanks for watching Julien. I don't really have many thoughts on Ikea one way or another, as I haven't really used any of their products. The only Ikea smart home stuff I've used was the shades and Tradfri hub, and that didn't go too well. Maybe I'll give their new hub a try one day.
Hey Shane. What app is on the wall mounted Ipad ? look great. Thanks
Do you have issues with time based automations? Not sure if it started with iOS/iPadOS 16 but whenever I change a time based automation it doesnât fire off at the new time. Even if the time is changed it fires off at the original time. Very frustrating
How did the iPad come on with a motion sensor?
Seems a little overwhelming lol. Well maybe because I want all that but donât know where to start
It's been a slow and gradual build up over a few years for me. I started with just a couple of smart products and slowly added to it little by little.
Thanks for sharing, I thought I had a lot of accessories. What do you do when the Wi-Fi goes out? đđ
I find a quiet place to sit and cry until it starts working again.
Great videa Shane, thanks for that! One question about reolink cameras. I saw your video how to get it work with homekit, but I was wondering how you connected everything. Is it from DVR to switch and to NAS where you can use homebridge to get it work with homekit? thanks
Thanks Michael. Personally, I'm using the Reolink NVR, connected to my Network Switch. The NAS (with Homebridge installed) is also connected to the same switch.
Technically, one could bypass the Reolink NVR and use something like Synology "Surveillance Station" if you have a Synology NAS. I opted to use the Reolink NVR tho just to keep all that processing and storage separate since I use my Synology for a lot of other things.
What kind of WIFI setup do you have? I have tried both Eero and Orbi and they seem to canât handle the amount of devices I have connected. (150). I see you used Orbi. What model and how many access points do you use?
Great video! I have several questions. The first is what sprinkler system did you install to operate with the Yardian controller?
Thanks Alan. I already had an in-ground irrigation system. I just replaced the controller with the Yardian Pro.
Love to know more about the mounted iPad.. How do you make it respond to motion sensors (Siri Shortcuts, Iâd guess?) and what app/interface/whatever was it showing here?
Hey Tony, here is a video I did about my wall-mounted iPad that answers all of these questions: czcams.com/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/video.html
Where can I find the wall mounted iPad mini and what software do you use with that ?
Do you ever have any IP addressing issues? Iâve found from time to time, with so many devices on a single router Iâll have addressing conflicts. Basically two or more devices will end up with the same IP address and end up not working. So Iâbasically ended up assigning static IPs to hundreds of devices just to prevent that.
You've got a Nice "Starter Kit".... Ive got 2 Hue Bridges Maxed Out, a Samsung SmartThings Hub Nearly Maxed Out, Garage Doors open by GPS, Landscaping Lights based on Sunset/Sunrise. 3 Logitech Harmony Remotes, 20 Temp Sensors, Keen SmartVents balancing multiple Room Temps, Wiz Bridge... All interlinked, Phone Control, Voice Control... mind Control is Next... LOL
I'm using the iPad in guided access mode with a motion sensor to wake it up. I discussed it in this video here czcams.com/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/video.html
Do you have any recommendations for wifi remote control for a Jady pool system?
Hey Shane! Awesome video. I had some real issues with eufy outdoor cameras and Apple TV. Are your POE cameras scripted so you can see them on Apple TV?
Yes, I can see all of my cameras that are exposed to homekit on the Apple TV.
For future videos please make sure you have a lavalier mic to up the quality of the sound while walking around. Otherwise, great video!
Thanks for the feedback.
Hi. Maybe you already have the question, but how did you make the ipad turn the light on from a Aqara motion sensor? I have 2 wall mounted ipads. Thanks for your videos i started build smarthome with your help. From Denmark.
Hi Dannie, thanks for watching. I used the iPad in Guided Access mode and notifications from the motion sensor. It is explained more here: czcams.com/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/video.html
Great video, thanks for sharing. Is it possible to create an automation in HomeKit to turn on and play Apple TV at a particular and then turn it off after a few hours? It doesn't matter what "channel" is played on the TV just want something to play to make it look like someone is home for security purposes. Thanks
Thanks Robert. It might be possible using time based automations. I think it would be easier with a HomeKit enabled TV that you could turn on and off. For example if you turned on the TV (with HDMI CEC enabled) and left your live tv app open last, it should open up right to that.
When watching on Apple TV with HomePod mini and play phone, phone takes over and vise versa⊠how to stop? How to have phone default to iPhone play?
Has anyone else had issues with the Abode system no longer showing popup notifications on the Apple TVs when the system arms/disarms since iOs/TV OS 16?
What app is running on the iPad to show all the controls?
great video - what iPad mount and software are you using?
Thanks Robert. Here is my most recent full video on the wall-mounted iPad showing the whole setup: czcams.com/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/video.html
Hi Shane
Love your channel and your progress with your HomeKit smart home.
I have a question if you have time to answer?
In our home we always have the iPhone and iPad chargers connected to the power socket, even though we are not charging any devices. Iâm looking for a way to use smart plugs to turn off the chargers when the iPhone or iPad is fully charged. I believe this can be done in HomeAssistant but I do not want to use HA.
Can this be done by using shortcuts?
Greetings from Sweden
Thanks for the support Christer. Yes, you can create a personal automation on the devices (shortcuts app) that triggers when a device reaches a certain battery percentage.
@@ShaneCreates great! Thanks đ
has anyone had problems adding devices to HomeKit Iâve not had problems before today got a new Meross smart ambient light msl450 then my Nanoleafâs shapes mini triangles came both have the same problem that I added to HomeKit but wonât added it then when I try again it says itâs been added before that I need to reset and add again have a new eero 6 but I added all my old devices with miner problems and tried it with the internet providers built in wifi same thing is it a new bug or has anyone had that happen lately??
Great videođđ» how did you do the turn on iPad with motion detection?
Thanks Lee. I did that using guided access mode on the iPad. It's explained in this video (see chapter timecodes) czcams.com/video/NvRzNE5PdwA/video.html
@@ShaneCreates cheers Shane, top quality videos as always. Keep up the hard work đđ»
Hi Shane, I love your channel, itâs been so helpful in this past year as Iâve created my HomeKit home. Iâm curious who service provider. I made the mistake of switching to TMobileâs new Wi-Fi modem and itâs not working with my devices well at all. I currently have an Eero 6 modem and 2 extenders, but since switching to the TMobile Wi-Fi my HomeKit has been going unresponsive and I need a new internet provider. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for the support! Glad to hear the channel has been helpful.
Iâve used Spectrum as my ISP for the longest time (only option in my area until recently) but recently switched over to fiber thru a local power company.
Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it
I think my biggest thing, is my Garage door linked to my garage lights using APple's Home App. So when the door opens, the garage light turns on, and when the garage door closes, the lights go off. I can lift my wrist and just say "Open Garage" and my garage door opens and the garage lights turn on. The garage is how we come and go normally. Not through the front door. Best of all, it doesn't matter if you use Siri, or you push the button on the wall, or use your normal RF remote. The lights is still linked to the door and works
So much better than just the weak lights from the opener itself.
That is an Insane amount of smart stuff being used.
Nice automation! Thanks for sharing. It's the simple, practical ones that are my favorite as well!
Does your Vizio TV always say âNo responseâ in HomeKit?
Apple family đȘ
Great video! Thank you! How did you get an Apple TV remote to work when Apple TV unit is hidden behind the TV?
Thanks for watching! The remote works via bluetooth so does not require line of sight.
@@ShaneCreates At first setup of Apple TV 4K mine did not work when behind tv. Weird. I will try again. Thank you.
