    Just to clarify some confusion that is popping up. I do believe horse bravery/temperament to be random meaning you can't pick ONE breed and say it is the bravest horse. The description of the horses in the video is when they are at the ideal temperament but you could still get unlucky and they end up skittish. Generally speaking I find these breeds to more often than not be even tempered with less ranges in skittishness compared to say the Arabian. I also recommend discarding and repurchasing if you get a super skittish horse but make sure you get it to level 4 bond and spend some time with it first because you will get a better tempered horse the more bonded you are! Hope this helps!

      I sure as hell can't prove it, but I really think keeping your horse well-fed, keeping it brushed, and regularly patting & calming it when it's upset (and even tethering it when you're not using it when you can) all really help them to behave way better than when you don't do those thing (and I'm half-convinced it all helps make for a better horse *while* you're bonding it up - but that might just be in my head).
      I've seen a ton of vids of ppl talking about how all horses (like it's a fact of the game) get antsy/ornery after a while and that you need to stable them and take out fresh one for a while when that happens. I have *never* had that experience in all my hours - I think those players just aren't feeding/brushing/calming their horse during play so after a while they wind up with an angry & hungry horse... understandably. LOL

      @@therealchickentender I feel the same way! Like you said I can't prove it but that has been my experience. Plus I watch other players and how they treat their horses and they are always complaining about them. I'm over here like my horse is a beast what you talking about 😂

      I keep being told "bravery" isn't a real stat and I have not noticed any difference between any of my ten horses so I don't know if there is a stat for that

    • @BlackKnight_
      @BlackKnight_  Před 3 lety +4

      @@TheFearGrizzly It's a debated issue right now. I agree that the horses all act the same when you are off of them, meaning they will generally stomp their feet, run off etc around gunfire or predators. But I do believe that there is differences in the horses when you are riding them when it comes to how quickly they become agitated, how long it takes to calm them down and their threshold before they will buck. I can't prove any of it, it's just my experiences with playing the game for a billion hours 😂

      @@therealchickentender I feed them until they become fat, I brush them all the time, because I like the shine, and feed them all the time, pet them very often, dont make them rush on speed, and nope, I had horses that I gifted so much attention, and they litteraly stop and buck me off at first occasion to flee LOL, and also tiped over fences almost everytime, like if they could not jump 😣 Oh and before juging my skills, I have lot of hours and know the mechanics againt predators etc... but yeah at some point, I also though that making sure all of their needs were top was good, or keeping them fit or fat would help, but not really. When you take such attention to your horse, usually you tend to not take lot of risks with them or not approach danger too much, so that might explain the good temper LOL In the end, its the connection between the horse you named that is important, I keep one gypsy who is skittish as hell, and tip over fence just because. NOW I know him, and laugh at it everytime, he is still a good buddy!
      I had a kladruber who would be brave, and I actually made him chase black bear on purpose, and snake, to try to educate him about danger, and I dont know if it helped, but in the end, he was pretty brave, but I think also, that their temper reset once they died. I had brave horses died in combat, or by griefer and when they spawn again, they seemed to have changed of temper.

    This video hit the nail on the head. For awhile I really believed meta horses were the way to go, but I always purposefully didn't buy them anyways because I simply hated seeing the meta horses ALL the time. I wanted variety! Then I slowly realized meta horses didn't actually matter anyways, what matters is whether or not you like the horses you're riding. Non-meta horse appreciation is so refreshing to see honestly! The Andalusian is probably one of my favorite underrated breeds, and my American Standardbred is one of my favorite mares to ride.
    A couple weeks back I even went and bought a breed that I'd never ever thought to try out, the Kladruber. Let me tell you, my black Kladruber mare is now my absolute favorite horse. She's calm as a cucumber and steady as hell in battle. She once ran straight at a grizzly bear that I didn't even know was there, and she didn't even blink. So yeah, chose your own horses man. If you like the meta, grab the meta. But if that one beautiful non-meta horse is calling to you... Just try them out, whats the harm? You may even get a new favorite for your stable.

      I have a full stable and own every one of the top (statistically) horses. I've literally tried them all.
      I keep reading that the bravery stat is a myth, and I've watched videos proving it.
      Then I sit on my female buckskin mustang, and I'm back to knowing that there has to be something to horse bravery, because of every horse I've ever owned, she's easily the best, bravest, toughest etc... Horse I've ever owned.
      I can't explain it.
      If I could just pick one horse to make my best, most brave, I'd pick my big clompy Breton, because i love the way she rides, she's so large and yet fast. The way she rides is just fun.
      But then I get into a gun fight and she's too big a target, and catches too many stray bullets. I've had her die, or had to revive her more than my smaller horses despite her high health.
      Or I get near gators and she hates them, or get bucked near the cougar or panthers etc.. High health or not, she's no braver than any other horse really. I want her to be, but she's not.
      But my mustang, she really is! Sure, she'll buck me under the same circumstance that any horse would, but she'll stand there longer than any other horse will, and she'll stand in a gunfight longer as well, and never once has she died or needed to be revived. She's survived the maxim gun, griefers, revenue agents withering fire, and has trampled wolves, at least one cougar and has stood face to face with grizzlies multiple times.
      I wish she wasn't my best horse because she's so small it always looks like I'd break her riding her, it just seems that a small horse like her could never carry a big character like mine for very long, compared to a Breton, or Kladrubber for example.
      I wouldn't pick my mustang to be my best horse, she's just a badass compared to all my other horses.

      Dunno if you play a male or female character but I think my girl looks good on the mustangs. They aren’t much larger than the arabian...but they’re more muscular and are more tough looking so I think they carry her well.

    Hi! I wanna share my experience. So I’m new to the online mode, started about a week ago. I have been playing the story mode since January. I had a kentchuky saddler, the standard horse u get at the beginning for a while. As soon as I made 600$ I was searching through the horse breeds and a horse caught my eye: the Buckskin Mustang. I really wanted to buy it since it looked like Spirit, and I wanted a new horse. I was at first a little on edge about buying it, since it cost 550$ and in story mode I had owned 3 mustangs (the grey, the tigger striped and the other one) and I didn’t like them. They would spook super easily, hard to calm down, and would buck me off as soon as wolves came close. They were worse than the Arabians! But I said to myself “f it” and bought the mustang. It was the BEST choice of MY LIFE. He is super strong and agile. He has full life and stamina! He is super brave, I can be around wolves as much as I want, he won’t buck me off, even if the wolves get close. He has only bucked me off once, when a cougar touched it, but until the cougar came to him, he was pretty calm. I can easily calm him down, I can run around next to crocodiles and I can be in a gun fight all the time I need, cuz he won’t get scared. It is sincerely an amazing horse, I was not expecting that.

When it comes down to it, I grind this game FOR the horses, so I've been following this channel for while now and seeing your channel grow is a joy because you really deserve it. (Remember those of us who were here back when...lol) You do share a crazy amount of knowledge about the game, but you're also encouraging people to enjoy the game in a more encompassing way, I believe. By no means is it a casual's approach - as seen in your videos, you have the technical skills to really throw down, if need be. It's more of an "enjoy-life-more" kind of approach, and I think your appreciation of these horses addresses that really well. This ain't flattery, BK. Just sayin: keep on keeping on with what you do! :)

      @@BlackKnight_ Thank you, too BK! I just recently started playing RDR online, and your the first Red Dead related channel I've subbed to, because I genuinely think you're good for this community. Although I'm more known for a different game, I'm trying to do something similar, but trying to inspire people to write creatively. Trying to take the sweaty try-hard obsession out of gaming, so as to enjoy life a bit more, maybe discover a few things along the way.
      So I'll geek out with you guys. Right now, my absolute favorite horse that I will NOT get rid of is my Chocolate Roan Warmblood KC (his full name is Keepsa Coolhoof; I typically name all my horses with stories depending on their behavior..lol). At first the coloration on this horse wasn't really my thing, but I got it out of the stable and really saw how subtle and amazing it looks, especially with a Gerden Trail saddle that matches his face. In terms of bravery, KC canters on gators for a hobby. (As a side note, I'm actually conducting an experiment for a skittish horses where I take them on a "Lagras Stomp" calming them regularly as we go through the most gator-infested areas, in and out of the water, galloping on top of gators while calming etc., just to see if this can help a horse in need of a little encouragement.)
      I'll also never get rid of my Dappled Buckskin Roadster named Kindred Dreaming (KD for short), and my Silver Kladruber, Medicine Eyes (she's called Emmy for short). The Silver Kladruber in particular has one of the kindest faces and she's as brave as they come. I could go on, but I'll stop here about my horses.
      The horse purchase I'm happiest about lately is not actually mine but the Buckskin Mustang that my partner added to her stable. If you remember, she was really loyal on sticking with that first starter horse. But now she loves her new Mustang with matching Belanger. Of course, she kept the old horse, too :)

    I have a system for buying and bonding with horses and it seems to work really well. I have some non meta horses and they are just as good as meta/role horses.
    First I only pick females as they tend to be calmer than the males.
    Second after purchasing I only ride them out of stable before full bonding. After that I only lead horses till full 4 bonding . Stopping only to Hitch, Pat , Brush and Feed. I may stop and shoot a deer ( or other med game ) to throw on back to take on and off for a bonding boost. So I do not take into any combat or any other situations like that until fully bonded. I also do not do any cosmetic upgrades till full bonding.
    Using this system I have never got a bad horse but before I started doing this I did get some duds that I ended up deleting. Too skittish being main reason.

Whereas my gold bought Missouri will literally go out of his way to trip over rocks, and run into trees lmfao 🤣 he’s the biggest wuss out of all my horses too, bro tosses me over snakes. My Turkoman is almost as bad, but I honestly attribute it to just bad luck with the temperament draw.

    First of all, thanks for making these. Really appreciate your knowledge, and the production quality of your videos is great: good audio levels and pacing in your edit. I'm looking forward to checking out more of your stuff as I just started playing RDO. Now I'm going to be "that guy" for a second. I was gonna let this slide, but you said "sooty buckskin" (rhyming with booty) a bunch of times close together and it drove me over the edge: sooty refers to soot, which rhymes with "put" or the double Os in "cookie." Soot is the thick black exhaust that comes out of coal-fueled locomotives or like big diesel engine trucks.
    Sorry if that's mansplaining or being a reply guy...I just love language as much as you love this game. Thanks again for your great work. =)

    • @BlackKnight_
      @BlackKnight_  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching! Meta in games is basically the best, most used thing in the game whether it is strategy, weapons etc. In this case non meta means for the horses means less used or considered not as good as "meta" horses which would be arabians, turkomans, fox trotters etc.

  • @Angel-gb9gi
    @Angel-gb9gi Před rokem

    I have the red Arabian which is great at everything but on the small side. I have a mustang which is very fast but too fast in the acceleration which I don't like because in tight spots you give it a kick and you run off a bridge or cliff before you have time to stop it. I like the fastness just not the touchy gas peddle. I have a turkomen and so far I have no complaints besides the Jerking of the head when running. My best horse of the 3 is the red Arabian he is just small but he makes the riding part easy and smooth. I want another horse soon but I have no idea what I should go far. I just look at other player horses out in the game away from their owner as I try to make up my mind.

    Great Video! I really lucked out early on, getting my Buckskin Mustang, 'Gilley', for only $350, and he's an absolute BOSS! But, LOTS folks are finding out about this gem-so they're quickly becoming pretty popular, possibly a "new-Meta"?
    So I'll go with my Leopard Appaloosa, 'Spotted Jane', for my "non-Meta" fave!
    She's not as ...'coordinated' 😅 as Gilley, but she is so striking, and her personality is so quirky and fun, we forgive and forget!
    We still run into Players who say" "Wow! What horse is THAT!?"

    True story:
    I had tamed the white Arabian in story mode as Arthur, named her Isabella, and brought it up to level 4 bonding by Constantly feeding her, brushed her and calmed her whenever needed.
    Sure, she bucked me at certain times especially when bears and panthers attacked, but in gun fights she would buck me and would literally return 5 seconds later in full retaliation and head butted my assailants.
    She died protecting me while robbing the passenger train on the 10 story raised bridge near Strawberry. I had no health items left or tonics, a bounty hunter had come out of nowhere and shot me point blank range with a double barrel shotgun. My screen turned red and after he reloaded, Isabella charged headfirst into the NPC and knocked him off the bridge, the shotgun went off and struck her in the belly, she reared back and fell to her death. I’ve never tamed the White Arabian horse again after that…

    Its strange, like others have said about temperament being randomised breed to breed, I now agree with. I have 10 rdo horses, the dapple hungarian I bought (supposedly for BATTLE) is a total pig, despite being bonding 4. Just put together the worst, most annoying red dead horse attributes/moments and thats him sadly. However, my leopard appaloosa is good to do in all ways, perfect all-rounder. Weird how the 'brave' breeds can be the total opposite to what they're meant for!
