  • Melbourne’s outer east is still waiting for a train line five decades after the Rowville Rail was proposed. Since 1969, community and expert support for the suburban line has grown yet no state government has committed to its construction.
Rowville resident Mick Van de Vreede isn’t letting the rail proposal disappear without a fight. While many in the area have given up on ever seeing a local line, he continues to raise his voice for his community in the face of political apathy.

It’s ridiculous just how long this project has been promised for! I can definitely say that friends and family strongly support this project, and many would make good use of it if such infrastructure existed today. Trains, unlike trams and buses, future-proof the transport link, which can continue to have services and service capacity increased over time as needed. It is also a much more accessible option for travellers who have bikes and mobility assistance, since the Rowville and surrounding area exists in a train dead-zone. For me, Rowville would bring a local station to me on the Wheelers Hill/Mulgrave border at Waverley Park and make the city, and Monash Uni much more accessible than existing SmartBus or alternatives like trams could ever. As with the Caulfield-Rowville Trackless Rapid Transit (TRT), I do hope this goes ahead, especially with Airport Rail currently in limbo, and the amount of work that does need to happen in order to bring heavy commuter rail to the outer eastern suburbs including Rowville

I think this is great idea. Can definitely point out there is a lot of support from local friends and families in the area. This would help for the young and the old and all wanting to have a good time heading into the city for events with drinking involved (I.e. football, concerts etc.) All the more options helps us to keep people wanting a drink off the roads when optional.

Last thing I want in Rowville is a train. Train stations may help those city workers I understand that but it also brings in the outsiders. We already have enough crime going on in Rowville without making us more “accessible”. I have seen the changes where I grew up once a train station was built and it wasn’t for the better. For me FTG, UFTG or even Tecoma station are close enough to give me rail access
