i used to do it and would not recommend, why imagine that they have overlap about 1.5in just like a vinyl siding but it is a roof what you are putting them on with snow or heavy downpour water will get behind them, i asked the guy who was making them (had machines in his ware house ) to set up the machines for bigger "offset" he said it would cost too much so we were installing additional underlayment,
