    Glad u are okay, that was a near miss. Try and get a professional detail in the claim, should help with the glass removal and get that new car feel back again. Tempted to say get a lawyer and claim physical and emotionally distress!

    Can't believe this was you! Saw your post either on Vortex or r/GolfGTI can't remember which, but regardless, glad you're safe. Yes, having a new car experience ruined like this is devastating (you're handling it much better than I would have!), but as a health professional, it's s good thing the bills will be sent from a shop and not a hospital. Again, glad to see you yourself came out relatively unscathed. Thanks for the quality content!

    Gosh, I'm sorry about the whole incident. At least you're okay. I can't imagine what it must be like to go through all of that, especially with a brand new car that you love. I'm hoping that car will be brought back to immaculate shape and that most, if not all, of the cost will be covered by the city or the plowing company. It's going to be hard moving forward knowing that even if the car is brought back to new condition, the accident did happen and the memory is there. Just remember that things are always replaceable, but not people. I hope you have nothing but great memories ahead with the car and I'm looking forward to more of your vlogs!

    I just got a brand new 2016 GTI with autobahn and performance packages a couple days ago. I used to have a 2014 WRX Hatch that I bought brand new in 2014. Not even 2 months after owning the car, I was leaving my gated neighborhood in high winds. I started driving out once the gate opened and a gust of wind came in and blew the gate closed right in to the passenger side rear fender flare of my car. Luckily it didn't dent the car, but it scuffed it up nice and good. I got so lucky that the WRX has clear paint protectors pre installed to protect against rocks and road damage. I am so sorry that happened to your brand new car. I know that feeling of a vehicle just not feeling the same when you care so much about keeping them nice.

    you know i saw this picture online somewhere about a car windshield of a gti broken because of the snow and i'm very surprised it was you and your car ... i'm so happy you are ok .. i'm a police officer and i know that must have scared the hell out of you ...and i know even with the defensive vehicle training i get i would have been scared as hell also .. thank god you are ok .. god bless ...

      you can still make the report and explain why it was not done at first .. well getting out of the way from traffic was smart . you don't want to get hit from behind .. again go to your local police and try to get a report done for you .. glad you are ok ..

    I'm sorry Chris. I haven't had a good 3 months with cars in general. It pains me to hear this happen to you as well. Just replaced a front windshield as well among many other unfortunate events. Good that you're ok.

    Good grief... I'd be absolutely livid! I feel your pain and wish you all the best. I truly hope your able to nail that public works department to the wall for the severe lack of judgment on their part. Good to hear that you're physically ok at least. Nevertheless, still... how frustrating.

    Sorry to hear that and what a luck you had to be ok after such thing, I know us car guys care more about the car than ourselves, but I would be pissed too. It's a brand new car, I really feel your pain and dealing with State can be a real hustle. Best of luck on getting everything done and in a timely manner.

    Was driving down the highway just this past weekend to Vermont and I had to swerve due to a plow doing the same thing that happened to you. I cant even image what would have happened if that snow hit my car at 70-70mph. Glad your okay.
    You should get yourself a dash cam. I personally use the Vantrue R2. I have some footage on my channel if your interested in seeing the video quality.

    Hey Chris! Glad to hear you're okay! It's terrible to hear about what happened to the car though. Sorry man. I love your channel though! I just bought my very first car which also happens to be a 2017 VW GTI Sport. I got mine in the Carbon Steel color, and your channel made my decision a very easy one. I was concerned about a few features, but watching your videos rid me of any doubt. Thanks for the great content, and glad to see you're safe!

  • @YasumotoUS
    @YasumotoUS Před 7 lety

    Cripes. That's a nutty situation. What's the responsible thing for a plow operator to do when clearing off older bridges like that? Is it worth either a professional detailer going over the interior or even replacing the cloth seat covers to ensure a glass free experience over the long term? Unknown how the cost will be distributed for something like that, but I think that replacing glass-harboring aspects of the interior would make you feel better and regain your enjoyment of operating the vehicle.

    That is really sad to hear... I can understand what you mean by the car being "destroyed"
    It's just this feeling of the car not being immaculate! Luckily you survived and the damage is not severe! But the feeling of a "repaired" and "thrown together" new car would piss me off top! Hopefully you won't be unlucky with the GTI in the future

    I'm planning on buying a GTI S and trying to decide between a manual or DSG.
    Driven manuals all my life but I like the idea of the DSG in traffic situations.
    Is the DSG as fun to drive as a manual?

    I have a 2017 Gti sport just like yours. Not even 1 month old. Some guy flung his rear door open on his Subaru Outback. Put a hole through my door and shattered my tinted glass. Had to have a new door and window put in. They don't sell door skins at Vw. So don't feel too bad!

    There's nothing worse than having your new car get banged up. I was rear ended a few days ago in my month-old Golf Wolfsburg. I know EXACTLY what you mean about it feeling "ruined." The damage to my Golf is minor, but still...it feels like it's been diminished somehow. Argh! I feel for you.

    Sorry this happened to you. I bought my 17 year old son a GLI at the end of the year. Two days later he was hit by a guy in a Jeep. Police couldn't tell from the evidence who was at fault so my insurance had to pay for the damage. Front fender and front left suspension were damaged. Took about 2 weeks to be repaired. While it seems fine I know my son definitely feels like the shine is off his new car.

    Dude, invest in a good dashcam!. Some will even record your location by map coordinates. Most will give time and date, as well as speed, even audio.Then you have concrete evidence. Make copies if they request a copy....never give your only copy. By the way, i like your vlog. Makes me feel like we're just a couple if buddies out on a ride somewhere. Very personable.

    • @monkey748
      @monkey748 Před 7 lety +1

      The Polo was an emergency buy after my Volvo S40 decided to aquaplane and then spin on the motorway. Anyway the Polo is a 1.4 DSG. Change the shocks and springs to lower it slightly which has improved the handling and copes better with the potholes in our UK roads which this time of year can be enormous. Can't fault it. Same size as a Mk2 Golf. Has done the job but time for a change.

    Glad you're ok. But I would say the car should be considered SCRAP now. I don't think they can ever bring it back to "new" condition without replacing the entire interior including the dash

    • @Pali4life2
      @Pali4life2 Před 7 lety +1

      I guess is just depends on where you set your standard for how "new" the car should be after a pro detail. Considering tiny shards of glass are everywhere, you may be finding glass in your car months after the claim is closed. Personally I would be fighting for a new car from my first call to the insurance.
      Even if they replaced the entire interior, you would likely have new rattles overtime and things wouldn't fit quite as well as they do from the factory. Also you could easily have long term issues with all the electronics that were doused in salt water. The water dried up but is there salt still remaining on all the wiring and components? A few years from now you may have electrical issues which would be hard to prove to the insurance they are connected to this incident. I think you deserve a new car

    I don't care if you have to take a $2000 loss on that car. Sell it and go get another brand new GTI. I mean, I don't know you but if you are willing to build a CZcams channel around this car, then you are even more particular than I am , and that's saying something. There is NO WAY I could live with that scratch to the dash and to the steering wheel. No way. If I kept the car, I would demand the State pay for a new Steering Wheel and New Dash no matter what it costs.
    Best of luck. I hope it all gets fixed and you don't get taken advantage of by the State.
