I’m 39 now and work as a software engineer. I now embrace education and try to learn as much as I can. I lament at how badly I treated my teachers when I was a young, dumb teenager. If only at that time, I had valued the treasures that they were giving me; treasures which allow you to live a stable, happy, successful life. As a teenager, I would have looked at this room negatively as a bunch of annoying nannys but now I look at them as heroes. Thank you to all teachers, for what you put up with every day, and I’m very sorry to the ones I was so rude to , several decades ago.

He is a star on the earth who accelerated the life of human science with his light, because No matter how strong your eyes are, you cannot see anything without light , and his knowledge became a light for millions who would have been deprived of science if they did not have it. He is the discoverer of universal science, simultaneity and eternity, and with his knowledge, time can be repeated thousands of times! It's as if all the people in the world can hear what you say at the same time, and it's interesting that it can be repeated thousands of times in all languages. It's indescribable, but it's praiseworthy.

I remember when I was in university and had a linear algebra class, I was like "sure, fine, linear transformations, eigenvalues, mh mh" and I just effectively learned how to compute all the stuff. I passed the exam, but needless to say, I never even tried to grasp why that one complex formula gives me a "generalized inverse". And I was not fond of that.
So I started wondering *why* does this stuff work, *how* are these things connected and how in the world could mathematicians come up with this generalized inverse? Then I found the linear algebra class on KA and every time I was on a train travel, I watched a video, then reflected on it, and did not stop before I deeply and intuitively understood what was going on.
So, eventually the KA course ended, and it did not cover the concept of generalized inverses. But with all the genuine intuition I built up on linear algebra, I sat down and I was actually able to deduce the whole formula for the generalized inverse from scratch by myself! I was now one of those mystical mathematicians who could invent formulas that do fantastic stuff!
And that was the very moment when I really valued what mastery learning is about. And I decided that was the only kind of learning I would do from now on. That was four years ago, and now I am a scientist and see a beauty behind all those formulas and concepts and how they interplay.
So if you are ever in a situation where you could either learn for a test and are tempted to learn in and out a computing scheme, do not do it. Rather, try to see what's behind it, don't stop asking "why" until you really understood it. It's a tough road and you'll need a strong will to walk on it. But in the end, you'll have a really rewarding feeling of understanding. And you'll be proud of yourself as you are able to say that you now have the ability to deduce new knowledge and be an actual scientist in this area.

I was in my fourth year of my undergraduate program and needed a higher GPA and more credits to get my degree in less than a month, thanks to khan academy I was able to learn 2 whole 1st year university level subjects in one month which would have taken a lil over half a semester to learn in a classroom setting. It also led to me brushing up on other subjects I was weak in and was able to improve my GPA even further. Its's not really about the GPA but the fact I have the understanding of many concepts which comes to me naturally , allowing me to work on real life applications that seemed almost impossible before. I am soo thankful to khan academy. I wouldn't have gotten my degree and gotten to where I am today without them.

Thank you for referring to Khan Academy as a tool. I am a math teacher, currently in a new school (for me) where the students are quite low. I came into the school half way through the year and saw that the students had not been taught any of their current level math. I had little time to prepare them for the "big test" all students have to take annually. I immediately signed up all my students on Khan Academy. I was shocked at the resistance I received from students, parents and the principal (I did not expect that.) It did not take long to observe that the complaint department was from the students who NEVER even attempted the assignments I gave them. ...(and of course, they complained to their parents who then complained to me and the principal.) Here is the great news.I now have the data to prove that all the students who actively participated and DID the assignments I gave them on Khan Academy had great gains even though they only had 7 weeks to get ready for their test. I thank you and am currently in the process of changing the mind of the principal with my data.

I am so glad that the Khan Academy includes Humanities in its subject offerings and I hope someday to be a contributor specific to Music Education in that area.
As a music specialist/classroom teacher, one point made at 24:05-24:15 in your talk addresses the flaws in the issue of time constraints & educational expectations for general ed/classroom teachers. But what worse is taking that situation and then divide that time even farther down for the Art, Music, Phys. Ed. and Compurter teaching specialists who have 1/5 the amount of time to teach their subject to ALL of the students in their Elementary-Middle School buildings!
    - - - - - - - - - - - That needs to "marinate" for jut a minute. - - - - - - - - - - -
    - - - - - No, really, go back and read the second paragraph again. I'll wait - - - - - -
"Music" is a complex, varied and multitudinous subject (it's actually a way of life, but I'll just address it as a "subject" for now) and in our current educational format - for public school, anyway, it's difficult to give music its just do when you only have 50 minutes, 1 time per week to engage ALL 352 of the children in your school. The Elementary level General Ed. teachers have their 30 students in their individual classrooms whom they see 5 days per week. The music teacher will see those same 30 students but only on 1 of those 5 days which then translates to only seeing those children for 8 or 9 times by the end of the quarter (God help you if you have a snow-day, holiday or a fire drill on the day you see this class!).
I'm stating this to simply point up how amazing the "Flipped Class" format of education is the current key to remedy the issue of the inordinant amount of time afforded to the Humanities. Such areas of study are honestly, the subjects that should be the steering wheel used to turn our US society away from its current trajectory/cycle of violence and lack of civility. Without the advancement of communications technology through CZcams, Skype, audio/video conferencing, social media and the accessibility of the Internet itself, there would be only a bleak future ahead for PUBLIC school education!

_What_ a story, _what_ an amazing person and _what_ an inimitable way of telling his story! I discovered the Academy a few months ago, from a math reference on an online economics course, and have since been hooked! Especially in these tough times resources like that are inestimable, invaluable. God bless you Sal!

I love this man because of his informality(just one of the various traits).
Still I laugh when I see the video of antiparallel structure of Dna.Where At the last 3 second he tries to utter molecularly. But he doesn't succeed.
    Very enthusiastic

That voice and the intuitions are his biggest assets. The intuition of treating pullies/wedges as machines and looking at torque/moment from a point of view mechanical advantage made classical mechanics so clear to me! And there are way too many examples, this one is not separately special. Not everyone has a charm to educate and it shows in videos without him.
He got me interested in Biology, something I neglected as a kid but beginning to see the big picture because of him.
