Even though Matt was very ill at this time, it didn't effect his voice at all. Such a shame that he couldn't go on at least another couple of decades ❤
Matt sang this on December 8th 1984. He passed away on February 7th 1985. Incredible that he was able to sing at all, considering he was so close to death from liver cancer.
Very sad.
He left a beautiful legacy that will last for generations…

As far as I’m aware this is the last video footage of Matt before his sad passing. From my own research I don’t think he had a diagnosis at this point. This was after his Australia tour and before his very well received Barbican performance in London. It was only after that when he got an official diagnosis. I could be wrong! How I wish the Barbican show was recorded!
You are correct. Matt had no idea he was so ill at this point. It is his final TV appearance. We all wish the Barbican concert was recorded! The Barbican wasn't his final concert as some believe, there were a couple more after that, but more low profile. All info and much more in Michele Monro’s biography 'The Singer's Singer'

It's sad to know he passed just two months later. I was introduced to him by his album sung in Spanish, Alguien Cantó (1969). For curiosity's sake I was just searching for any TV performance of him singing in Spanish, and I come to find his very last TV performance. It's what I was looking for, so I'm happy but sad.
