Just one more, since it's an oem look. Well.... You completely changed my mind !!!! I Love this units features... The clean look with hidden sd card... ability to toggle clock off, and all icons.. I love the auto dimming feature. My google maps sometimes annoys me when it doesn't go into dark mode when its really dim outside. At night I generally hate bright lights in the cabin because it really ruins my night vision.

Yeah it's very common for fuse covers not to fit back again when using fuse taps, here are two example installs showing this czcams.com/video/zbxYA4VhuT8/video.html and czcams.com/video/uZp95NbNlmM/video.html Regarding the alternative, yes there is, some installers will use IDC T Tap connectors or will splice the wires via soldering if the customer does not want fuse taps to be used. I wish you showed what it looks like when driving from your view and at night, not just the captured footage. I want to see how it reflects and the brightness at night.

Ah that is highly subjective, depending on the what brightness setting the mirror is at, how far away you are from the LCD mirror, what ISO setting is used to record it, what F stop is used, the sensitivity if the lens being used and finally the actual light available at the place the mirror is being used at (but even then, it won't show you, how it looks to the human eye sitting on the driver's seat as our the capability of our eyes greatly exceed that of current camera equipment). The best way to experience an LCD mirror before buying one and check for lag would be to test drive a C8 or a new Toyota or Lexus, the higher end models come standard with an LCD mirror. Cheers!

I watched your other video and saw you review this camera. I asked my shop to install it and they recommend the WOLFBOX G840S 12" 4K Mirror Dash Cam Backup Camera. Which is better in your opinion? I don't care about the price. The v5pro looks like a cleaner install in my opinion, but since you have tried both, which do you like more and why? Thank you.

Hi Alex, I fitted one of these units several months ago to my van and it pretty much ticks all the boxes for what I could want from a front/rear mirror dash cam with reversing camera, so I’m very pleased with it and thanks again for your detailed videos. A couple of issues I've had - first off the rear camera doesn't quite have enough height of field to both see horizontally backwards in rear dashcam mode and see far enough downwards in reversing camera mode to see objects very close to the back of the van, although it's certainly a lot better than without it. Not much I can do about that I guess..... Second, I've not had any luck trying to format a 128GB micro SD card to use with the dash cam. The Autovox installation guide says that an SD card must be formatted in FAT32 format but when I tried to do a format in Windows 10, it only gives the options of NTFS and exFAT. Then, following research online, I tried using Diskpart in DOS, but this has also failed. I'd be interested to know how you formatted your SanDisk 128GB micro SD. I'm trying to use a Kingston 128GB Micro SDXC Class 10 U1 card. Many thanks

@@AlexAutoFun Hi Alex, I’m pleased to report that my SD card formatted perfectly using the dash cam. What threw me when I tried inserting the 128GB card in the dash cam previously was that an error message appears saying something like ‘Please reinsert the SD card’. I now understand you can just ignore that and go through to the formatting process. Re the rear view issue, I have the red wire for the reversing light connected and I’ve optimized the camera angle for both driving mode and reversing mode views. When switching to reversing mode, where the image switches to the lowest view, I can’t see anything low down like a curb which is closer than about 4 feet from the rear of the vehicle. If I reset the angle of the camera to see closer to the vehicle in reversing mode, then when I switch back to driving mode where the image switches to the highest view, it doesn’t go high enough to see a view in the distance behind. I do have the camera mounted high up so maybe that's not helping. I understand that the viewing angle of the rear camera is 150 degrees but that must be in the horizontal plane. From experience, I would say the viewing angle in the vertical plane is around 70 to 80 degrees if that.
Auto Fun guy. Can you add an interior camera onto this unit. I really wish it had one. Also do you need anything extra than what is provided for installation? One more thing. When you adjust the guidelines for reverse do they stay there or do you have to adjust them every time

Hi David! I usually do not recommend mirror dash cams for places where they experience extreme temperatures. That being said, the V5 Pro is rated at up to a max of 149°F Cheers!
Having used an Auto-Vox X2 dash cam mirror for the last couple of years, the only disappointment is the screen visibility on a sunny day. The light-colored interior reflects too much glair to be able to see the screen well even when the brightness is at max. Adding an antiglare film helped a bit but not enough to see well. I wish Auto-Vox made the screen brighter. Any hacking idea will be appreciated.
Hi Missan! LCD mirrors have advanced lately with additional laminations to reduce glare however this is still their biggest weakness inherent from the design of being able to act as a normal mirror in case the LCD panel fails. But here is what I found so far for reducing glare, first is window tint, that will reduce the amount of light coming into the car. The second thing I do is to aim the mirror slightly down so it reflects the car back seats instead of the outside (this assumes the mirror is used with the LCD panel always on and that you have a darker color interior) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Here is my problem I have a Jeep wrangler which this system seems like it would be perfect for I also have a cargo trailer What I would like to do is use the camera daily for my jeep but be able to use it for my trailer (is it possible to have two rear cameras when I use the trailer disconnect the jeep rear camera and connect the trailer camera ) hope you get this need to buy camera soon
Hi Tianna! I'm actually doing the same on my Wrangler! going with the 10" seems to fit better than the 12" ones (video on this install coming). Regarding using 2 cameras for the rear, it's possible if you can get your hands on a 2nd rear camera (you would want to contact Auto-Vox to see if they can sell you a 2nd one) however the challenge is that while the rear camera is waterproof, the cables are typically hidden inside the car trim (they are protected from the elements) and the camera is the only thing that is exposed to water. If on your trailer the cable is exposed to the elements (so you can disconnect and connect) you may have an issue there. You may be better off with a backup system like this czcams.com/video/gSzX5CNX6e0/video.html to complement the dash cam system. Hope this helps, Cheers!

You can see how it looks during the demo portion of the video (since that is filmed during the day) the glare is very similar in mirror dash cams (since they use a reflective glass in case the user wants to use the mirror with the LCD panel off) Regarding night time, current mirror dash cams do not support glare reduction the way normal car mirror does (manual flip mirror or self dimming mirror) However I usually don't have an issue with glare at night since I use my mirror dash cam with the LCD panel on all the time (since I'm not using it as a normal mirror where it can reflect real light from the headlights behind me) I do also have a video comparing the different mirror dash cams I reviewed for glare, stay tuned. If for some reason the LCD panel failed the rear view mirror could still be used as a regular mirror (without the reflective portion, if the LCD panel failed, the rear view mirror would be unable to show the rear, assuming this happened during a critical portion of the drive it could dangerous, but again this is just why we believe we have not seen a digital mirror without reflective properties) Hope this helps, Cheers!
I've watched so many of your car dash cam mirror videos. Is there one you recommend above All Else? Or are there specific ones that you would tell people to avoid? There are so many choices and it's got me paralyzed
Hi Robert! ahh that's a good question that I get often. I think the best mirror dash cam depends on what you are looking to do with it. I run different ones on my cars so I what I usually tell people is to start by picking how many cameras does it need to have (2, 3 or 360°) and now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Finally you would want to compare video quality but also any specific features you are looking for such as Wifi, Parking monitor without hardwire etc. I also just began working on a video to compare my top picks for different categories, stay tuned, thanks for watching and cheers from California!

Swiping for guidelines Is a nice feature, but does it change the view angle for backing up, or do you swipe again so that you're seeing the lower portion of the rear image?
Hi Tat ler! correct, the reversing view (parking assist) will remember the last saved angle used when setting up the guidelines, so it if was a lower view it will show that lower view then return to normal when putting the car out of reverse (assuming parking assist is enable with the optional red wire) Hope this helps bud!

I have installed it but the image from the rear cam is in reverse order so the numbers on plates are inverted like a real mirror. Is it possible to change that?
Hi Sobhi! Nope it's not possible to change it from being inverted like a regular mirror. If you were to switch it, the cars on the left side of the car would now show on the right side of the car, also some emergency vehicles have mirrored text on them so it can be read when seeing thru a mirror, if the image is not mirrored that text won't also be visible. Since the camera is hardwired, does it always stay on even when you turn off the engine? If so how does the parking monitor work since its always recording anyways? Thanks!

From the reviews on amazon and youtube some have commented on how its unusable at low light or night as you can barely see anything on the screen. They posted the pic of the night mirror screen and you cant' use that to drive at night. Also the licence plate are blurry at the night video and barely useable. All agree is a good system but the night use is not great. Can you shed some light please. Example review on the UK site one titled 'Great camera, rubbish mirror' : 4 star review.

Yep LCD Mirror dashcams are definitely for everyone, they require you to adjust to a wide angle view which while some people love (I have switched to LCD mirrors on all my cars now LoL) some don't and prefer the narrow view (since this chances the perspective of cars and how far they are away from you) Mirror dash cams also have glare as you read on the review since they are reflective to be also used a normal mirror. Again for some people this is not an issue but some some this is a deal breaker as the glare reduces the visibility of the screen. Same with night driving, if it's dark to the point that your existing mirror can't show reflections the same for the camera you will only see black. What I recommend to people that are on the fence about switching is to go test drive a car that comes with an LCD mirror from factory (Corvettes, High Trim Toyotas and Lexus) that way you can experience it and see if this something you want or if it's not going to work for you. Ah that is highly subjective, depending on the what brightness setting the mirror is at, how far away you are from the LCD mirror, what ISO setting is used to record it, what F stop is used, the sensitivity if the lens being used and finally the actual light available at the place the mirror is being used at (but even then, it won't show you, how it looks to the human eye sitting on the driver's seat as our the capability of our eyes greatly exceed that of current camera equipment). The best way to experience an LCD mirror before buying one and check for lag would be to test drive a C8 or a new Toyota or Lexus, the higher end models come standard with an LCD mirror. Cheers!

Their appearance is very distinct from each other (most of the time I either remove the mirror to confirm the adapter or look from the outside of the vehicle to identify the adapter). Hi Alex, I fitted one of these units several months ago to my van and it pretty much ticks all the boxes for what I could want from a front/rear mirror dash cam with reversing camera, so I’m very pleased with it and thanks again for your detailed videos.
A couple of issues I've had - first off the rear camera doesn't quite have enough height of field to both see horizontally backwards in rear dashcam mode and see far enough downwards in reversing camera mode to see objects very close to the back of the van, although it's certainly a lot better than without it. Not much I can do about that I guess.....
Second, I've not had any luck trying to format a 128GB micro SD card to use with the dash cam. The Autovox installation guide says that an SD card must be formatted in FAT32 format but when I tried to do a format in Windows 10, it only gives the options of NTFS and exFAT. Then, following research online, I tried using Diskpart in DOS, but this has also failed. I'd be interested to know how you formatted your SanDisk 128GB micro SD. I'm trying to use a Kingston 128GB Micro SDXC Class 10 U1 card.

I’m pleased to report that my SD card formatted perfectly using the dash cam. What threw me when I tried inserting the 128GB card in the dash cam previously was that an error message appears saying something like ‘Please reinsert the SD card’. I now understand you can just ignore that and go through to the formatting process.
Re the rear view issue, I have the red wire for the reversing light connected and I’ve optimized the camera angle for both driving mode and reversing mode views. When switching to reversing mode, where the image switches to the lowest view, I can’t see anything low down like a curb which is closer than about 4 feet from the rear of the vehicle. If I reset the angle of the camera to see closer to the vehicle in reversing mode, then when I switch back to driving mode where the image switches to the highest view, it doesn’t go high enough to see a view in the distance behind. I do have the camera mounted high up so maybe that's not helping. I understand that the viewing angle of the rear camera is 150 degrees but that must be in the horizontal plane. From experience, I would say the viewing angle in the vertical plane is around 70 to 80 degrees if that.
Auto Fun guy. Can you add an interior camera onto this unit. I really wish it had one.
Also do you need anything extra than what is provided for installation?
One more thing. When you adjust the guidelines for reverse do they stay there or do you have to adjust them every time

Hi David! I usually do not recommend mirror dash cams for places where they experience extreme temperatures. That being said, the V5 Pro is rated at up to a max of 149°F Cheers!
Having used an Auto-Vox X2 dash cam mirror for the last couple of years, the only disappointment is the screen visibility on a sunny day. The light-colored interior reflects too much glair to be able to see the screen well even when the brightness is at max. Adding an antiglare film helped a bit but not enough to see well.
I wish Auto-Vox made the screen brighter. Any hacking idea will be appreciated.
Hi Missan! LCD mirrors have advanced lately with additional laminations to reduce glare however this is still their biggest weakness inherent from the design of being able to act as a normal mirror in case the LCD panel fails. But here is what I found so far for reducing glare, first is window tint, that will reduce the amount of light coming into the car. The second thing I do is to aim the mirror slightly down so it reflects the car back seats instead of the outside (this assumes the mirror is used with the LCD panel always on and that you have a darker color interior) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hi Tianna! I'm actually doing the same on my Wrangler! going with the 10" seems to fit better than the 12" ones (video on this install coming). Regarding using 2 cameras for the rear, it's possible if you can get your hands on a 2nd rear camera (you would want to contact Auto-Vox to see if they can sell you a 2nd one) however the challenge is that while the rear camera is waterproof, the cables are typically hidden inside the car trim (they are protected from the elements) and the camera is the only thing that is exposed to water. If on your trailer the cable is exposed to the elements (so you can disconnect and connect) you may have an issue there. You may be better off with a backup system like this czcams.com/video/gSzX5CNX6e0/video.html to complement the dash cam system. Hope this helps, Cheers!

How is the daytime glare of sunshine on the mirror and how is the night time glare reduction from vehicles behind?
Hi Santhiratan! You can see how it looks during the demo portion of the video (since that is filmed during the day) the glare is very similar in mirror dash cams (since they use a reflective glass in case the user wants to use the mirror with the LCD panel off) Regarding night time, current mirror dash cams do not support glare reduction the way normal car mirror does (manual flip mirror or self dimming mirror) However I usually don't have an issue with glare at night since I use my mirror dash cam with the LCD panel on all the time (since I'm not using it as a normal mirror where it can reflect real light from the headlights behind me) I do also have a video comparing the different mirror dash cams I reviewed for glare, stay tuned. If for some reason the LCD panel failed the rear view mirror could still be used as a regular mirror (without the reflective portion, if the LCD panel failed, the rear view mirror would be unable to show the rear, assuming this happened during a critical portion of the drive it could dangerous, but again this is just why we believe we have not seen a digital mirror without reflective properties) Hope this helps, Cheers!
I've watched so many of your car dash cam mirror videos. Is there one you recommend above All Else? Or are there specific ones that you would tell people to avoid? There are so many choices and it's got me paralyzed
Hi Robert! ahh that's a good question that I get often. I think the best mirror dash cam depends on what you are looking to do with it. I run different ones on my cars so I what I usually tell people is to start by picking how many cameras does it need to have (2, 3 or 360°) and now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Finally you would want to compare video quality but also any specific features you are looking for such as Wifi, Parking monitor without hardwire etc. I also just began working on a video to compare my top picks for different categories, stay tuned, thanks for watching and cheers from California!

Hi Tat ler! correct, the reversing view (parking assist) will remember the last saved angle used when setting up the guidelines, so it if was a lower view it will show that lower view then return to normal when putting the car out of reverse (assuming parking assist is enable with the optional red wire) Hope this helps bud!

I have installed it but the image from the rear cam is in reverse order so the numbers on plates are inverted like a real mirror. Is it possible to change that?
Hi Sobhi! Nope it's not possible to change it from being inverted like a regular mirror. If you were to switch it, the cars on the left side of the car would now show on the right side of the car, also some emergency vehicles have mirrored text on them so it can be read when seeing thru a mirror, if the image is not mirrored that text won't also be visible. From the reviews on amazon and youtube some have commented on how its unusable at low light or night as you can barely see anything on the screen. They posted the pic of the night mirror screen and you cant' use that to drive at night. Also the licence plate are blurry at the night video and barely useable. All agree is a good system but the night use is not great. Can you shed some light please. Example review on the UK site one titled 'Great camera, rubbish mirror' : 4 star review.

Yep LCD Mirror dashcams are definitely for everyone, they require you to adjust to a wide angle view which while some people love (I have switched to LCD mirrors on all my cars now LoL) some don't and prefer the narrow view (since this chances the perspective of cars and how far they are away from you) Mirror dash cams also have glare as you read on the review since they are reflective to be also used a normal mirror. Again for some people this is not an issue but some some this is a deal breaker as the glare reduces the visibility of the screen. Same with night driving, if it's dark to the point that your existing mirror can't show reflections the same for the camera you will only see black. What I recommend to people that are on the fence about switching is to go test drive a car that comes with an LCD mirror from factory (Corvettes, High Trim Toyotas and Lexus) that way you can experience it and see if this something you want or if it's not going to work for you.
