  • Contemporary fashion designers Jawara Alleyne and Ella Boucht have created new commissions and interventions for our latest exhibition at Charleston in Lewes 'Bring No Clothes: Bloomsbury and Fashion'.
We spent a day with the artists to find out how the Bloomsbury group has influenced and inspired them during the making process, and to hear more about their practice.
Filmed across Charleston in Firle - the modernist home and studio of the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant - and Charleston in Lewes, our new cultural venue where their work is currently on display.
Jawara Alleyne is an interdisciplinary artist, fashion designer and educator whose work and research is rooted in identity.
Ella Boucht is a Finnish fashion designer based in London. Boucht’s work strives to expand the boundaries of queerness and gender, while also tapping into the rich history of lesbian life and creative expression.
'Bring No Clothes: Bloomsbury and Fashion' is curated by writer Charlie Porter, a multi-layered experience featuring catwalk fashion by Dior, Fendi, Burberry, Comme des Garçons, Erdem and S.S. Daley, personal items belonging to members of the Bloomsbury group including Virginia Woolf and Lady Ottoline Morrell, never-before-seen portraits by artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell, and of course, new commissions and interventions by contemporary fashion designers Jawara Alleyne and Ella Boucht.
Due to popular demand, this exhibition has been extended until March 2024. Find out more, and book your tickets here: www.charleston.org.uk/exhibit...
