Eddie played a Gibson 335 for a period before the band was signed, but the rest of the band apparently gave him a hard time saying “you’re rock and roll, you ain’t Roy Orbison- either get some sunglasses or get rid of the guitar.” LOL Anyway, cool to see Wolfgang with his own!

Ed actually said in his interview with Jas Obrecht from 1980 that if he ever had a "custom" guitar (signature model) made that he wanted a 335 painted with his stripes and a Floyd Rose. He said during the interview as he was playing the Frankie unplugged, that he wished he had brought his 335 with him because he could really fly on it. Even in the 80s he was still into that sound.
I still can’t believe he’s gone. He would be absolutely ecstatic over this and SO proud of all of you. Congratulations. VERY well done.

Just picked up the Surf Green Wolfgang last night. I have quite a few pieces of EVH gear. The stuff just works! I've never been a semi-hollow type of player, but after listening to both albums and seeing Mammoth numerous times, I'm intrigued. It sounds killer. Maybe I'll convert! Peace all, and congratulations to the Wolf, Matt, Chip and the EVH team.

Can't wait to try one of these out! At the 6:00 mark in video, where Wolfgang is raking behind the bridge, I can't wait to try as well but a little bit different. In some of my songs, I like to strike those notes individually to 1/16 notes like Jerry Lee Lewis. Make it sound like high keys on the piano with my right hand and use my left hand for lead and rhythm with hammer on and pull offs. Hopefully, this guitar will be something that I can use to compliment my own style.

Wolfgang explains this on a former video (right rundown?). The first prototype has it on the side and he asked for a change (I think because of Gibson ES335 he played earlier)

It looks and sounds nice, but I wish they’d retained the old EVH headstock. Keeping the strings straight thru the nut to the tuners can help resolve tuning issues (G string on a LP anyone?) created by the lateral force of the string in the nut.

Words fail to describe the feeling one feels in that moment at the end of a Mammoth show when all of the guys gingerly lay their guitars on the floor for that "Let's test her out" feedback in honor of the way Wolfie's pops, Edward Van Halen, would do it. And, it was done with THIS guitar. You know he is beaming with pride for you young Wolf. You have carried his legacy forward with the utmost dignity, honor and respect, better than anyone could have ever asked of you. It’s so hard to come up with a new design that doesn’t either look dumb or look too much like one of the classics. This one nails it - I could just as easily see Robert Smith playing this as any metalhead, and that tells you it has broad appeal the way the classics do. Well done.

Definitely a cool axe. I'd buy this over a 335 any day. I'm sure the neck is amazing. For the price, pretty hard to beat. Especially if you don't get one with a flamed top.

I think the guitar is cool, for sure, and the sound demos are really good from what I've heard. It's just hard to justify $1500 for a guitar made in Mexico. I think at that price point, and given that Wolfgang is not really a household name yet, these might not sell very well right out of the gate. Just a hunch. I think it's worth waiting to see when retailers who are forced to buy EVH guitars from Fender will start listing new guitars as "used" on Reverb so they can dump them. My guess is I'll be able to get one for less than $1,000 by the end of the year with no problem.

The problem is it isn't $1500, they are $1800 and $1900 depending on the color. That much money for a made in mexico guitar is just ridiculous.

Have to agree, looks wise, not my thing, but, you can see the lineage of this guitar, you can trace it back to the musicman evh, his own design which morphed into the peavey and then with the evh brand through fender, all beautiful instruments but I personally dig the musicman, this SA guitar sounds good tho.
Make us a portable striped micro stack with preset VH tones. Turn a knob and go from eruption to unchained to poundcake to humans being etc. No computer or phone needed. Include a footswitch, and drum tracks and you will sell a trillion of them.

I know I'm going to catch hate for this comment, but I have to say it. I was, and still am really excited for this release. I'm in awe of the purple SA-126, and truthfully do want to get one badly. The problem is when I saw the price. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it is an amazing guitar, but $1900. plus tax (over $2000. total) for a made in mexico guitar just doesn't do it for me. I totally understand and can relate to the r&d that went into it, and the fact that it is a semi hollow, which in theory is harder to make / build, but when I can buy an american made instrument for the same price or even hundreds of dollars less, it becomes a hard pass for me. I do however wish the team all the best with it.

“Perfectionism” might run in EVH DNA but it doesn’t run in the Fender USA manufacturing facility. I had a few raised eyebrows at my EVH USA Wolfgang. Just plain laziness on the builder(s). At this point I doubt there’s a production guitar that’s actually worth $5k.

Don't get me wrong, this thing looks cool, but I'm not fully convinced that this isn't just sort of a cash grab (though I'm not very well informed in this area right now so don't take this too seriously). I have nothing against Wolf though. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist here but that's just my initial thought at the odd combination of semi-hollow with this style of music -- just questioning it a bit, really. **On the other hand, Wolfgang, if you're seeing this, I hope you let a museum like the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, the MET, etc. put some of you & your dad's guitars (especially the 'frankenstrat') up on exhibition again!! I'm just a bit younger than you and have been wanting to see those for years, as it was your family who got me into music as much as I am!

You do know Wolfgang inherited everything right? Including Eddie's stake in this company. Wolf was just named guitarist of the year and is busting his ass touring on his now second record. He's been developing this since the first album. Why would he not develop a signature guitar for himself from a company he owns a large stake in?
@@johnbennett125 I know he inherited everything, as he should have. That's why I mentioned it'd be nice if their guitars/gear could be allowed to go up on museum exhibitions once again for fans around the world to see in person.
He totally deserves to have his own custom gear, and I specifically mentioned in my comment that I haven't kept up with news concerning EVH or the family more recently, so what I said is pretty much just initial thoughts/impressions! No accusations here as I have no reason nor evidence to think that he's anything but a guy who's as good of or better of a person than his father was.

The other thing is, you get better sounding semi-solids much, much cheaper too. At least I do.
Nearly 2 grand for a Mexican made guitar? Overpriced. And at that price, at least put some locking tuners on it and better nut material than plastic.

there is nothing "vintage" about the wolfgangs... this could be an updated version of the vintage "type" es335 that wolf was using so EVH could cover the whole spectrum.
The Peavey Wolfgang is nearly 30 years old, not quite vintage, not that far off either.
The shape of the guitar is a deal breaker. So awkward and unsexy. Looks like a child designed it with crayons…
