Basic CNC with Fusion360, Candle, GRBL, Genmitsu 4030 and the mystery of G54! - wooden plant labels

  • I engrave some wooden plant labels using Fusion360, Candle and a Sainsmart Genmitsu 4030
    This would work equally well on a 3018 style machine
    Ideal beginner project/exercise to begin to understand Fusion, CNC, G-code etc.
    For a real beginner Fusion360 tutorial, please check out Foxberg's Fabbercobblin...
    • Video
    G-code I used to set G54 on my machine
    G10 G54 P1 L2 X-383 Y-171 Z-44
    G10 = set offset command
    G54 = specific work offset location
    P1 = parameter address (P1 is associated with G54 I think!)
    L2 = informs G10 we are setting work offsets (as opposed to tool offsets)
    I don't fully understand the syntax above, so use it with care.
    Always test your g-code at a safe Z height before committing tool to material
    ....even if it is wood! I broke a 3mm end mill by not doing this.

      @@ollysworkshop I want to use fusion 360 with genmitsu cnc but it kept running into so many problems. Do you know why the z axis of the spindle keep raising up to hit limit whenever I hit send to start?

    • @ollysworkshop
      @ollysworkshop  Před rokem +1

      @@SkyfalconTin hi, I don't know why it's doing that, but it should be possible to work out why. First take a look at the first few gcodes and work out what the program is asking the machine to do. Just Google the G codes, that's what I do. You may have to adjust some of the grbl settings, perhaps an axis is reversed or something. I seem to remember I had to fiddle with some of the grbl settings on my 3018 machine to get it to behave the same as the 4030. Let me know how you get on. Thanks

    Hi, would you have any idea why after exporting as gbrl g code and running my machine in Candle, my 4030 decides (it seems at random) to randomly cut a straight line across my work. Im sure it has to be in the G-Code because I've tried different laptops and many different tooling operations and it happens on all of them.

    • @ollysworkshop
      @ollysworkshop  Před rokem +1

      Hi. Only thing I can immediately think of without knowing any more is check that the Z zero is set to the same point as in the CAM (usually the top surface), and that the retract and safe heights are set appropriately. Also check that Z is driving in the correct direction. I had an issue where the head plunged deep into the work instead of retracting!😬

    • @toby-cass
      @toby-cass Před rokem +2

      Hi thanks for that. The solution in the end was the offline screen. If it was plugged into the controller at the same time as a laptop/PC it would send random error messages or blips to the machine during an operation. After unplugging that I’ve had no issues.

    • @ollysworkshop
      @ollysworkshop  Před rokem +1

      Hi, candle is a gcode sending program, it will do exactly what you tell it to do. You need to create the appropriate gcode for drilling in the same way as you create the milling gcode. I have successfully used both flatCAM and fusion360 to generate drilling gcode which can then be opened and run in candle. Hope this helps.
