What is so interesting is that despite all the controversy this cast is 100% proud of what they did. Maybe we are missing something.

I waited until the entire season came out so I could watch each episode back to back. I have to say, I honestly enjoyed the ride. The writing May be off in some scenes, but this show is pure art. Every shot is beaufitul. Every sound choice was magical. It was much better than everyone says it is

I agree! I read tons of review prior to actually watching The Idol and they were obviously bashing it and speaking of how “horrible” it was, so I was pleasantly shocked when I watched it and actually enjoyed it

Im honestly tired of the internet negativity. Everyone is watching those CZcamsrs saying the show is trash and blah blah but do you guys realize they do this for the hype right? It gives them views, and thats why they do it.
My point is: don't assume everything is trash based on short CZcams clips or what these CZcamsrs are saying that it's the worst thing ever. See it for yourself and have your own opinion own it, instead of agreeing with everyone just because everyone hates it for some reason.
Even if its really a bad show, its not the end of the world and at least you watched and got your OWN opinion on the matter, liking it or not.

I feel like I might be the only one who thinks this but I’m interested to see this show. I’m a huge advocate for women and although the switch of the directors and the things I have read online is concerning I’m still a little hesitant to cancel the show or crap on it and euphoria bc of it’s provocativeness. In my opinion (this might be controversial) I’m sex positive and like the way sex is introduced in shows like game of thrones, black mirror, euphoria, etc. these shows are all controversial with lots of sex but I like how raw it is. Porn is already all over the internet. Twitter, google, Instagram, Snapchat, even tik tok. So idk if I’m just desensitized but I don’t care about graphic stuff in shows. It just makes the shows more realistic to me. Life is graphic, the United States is largely pornographic, look around. I would be a hypocrite if I said I liked songs like WAP or On The Way, but hate shows with graphic content. I also feel like the billions of people who consume porn daily are hypocrites. Might as well say classic paintings are too graphic as well (which I’m sure they did during their time as well). Do I like that a man directed this? No not really. But how do I know what goes on behind scenes. What if lily is being honest and plays a large role in how her character is played and Sam is not really to blame. What if all this hate is misguided bc we haven’t even seen the show and we don’t know the truth. If the acting sucks that’s one thing, if the main actresses/actors said they were uncomfortable that’d be another, if they didn’t have intimacy coordinators I’d also be concerned but they do. I just feel like everyone wants to bash something just to feel different and have a different opinion. Maybe Sam is this horrible person, lots of horrible people make great art. I just think he’s trying to prove how explicit the modern times are first hand. If this show is centered around the sexual violence in the pop industry, then guess what? There’s going to be sexual violence. Also, look at any porn site and the most trending videos… guess what it is? Hardcore, cnc, etc. it’s all violent and I think Sam is trying to shove it in our faces, make us hate it just so we realize how sexually violent we are as people. No better way to see it than head on. I get why people are upset, this is a very sensitive topic, sensitive to me even but I think it’s an important conversation to have. Make people uncomfortable, make people face their skeletons they keep locked in the closet. Sorry for ranting but I feel like I haven’t seen anyone say this and I want to give another perspective before we jump to conclusions.

I get what you're saying, but at least for me, the difference is that the show is written from a man's perspective, and no matter how Sam pushes it, I always come back to: but Sam's not a woman, so how could he truly know a womans' experiences? I think it is realistic to show sex openly and so raw, but I think the over sexualisation, especially for a kind of younger audience, isn't exactly sending a good message. I know what you're saying about the agency that Lily probably had in the show, which is great, if that were true, which I guess we don't know. But to me that doesn't discredit the way Sam so often portrays women in his shows, like 99% of the time. I also don't think it's a good excuse to say that it's happening around us (sexual violence for instance), so that means its fine. There's bad stuff that happens around us, and I believe through art we should be changing these narratives, not feeding into them for shock value. I know seeing it as a woman, it makes me feel weird that he writes female characters that maybe seem developed, but I see many of his female-written characters as pretty one dimensional honestly. I find it hard to see how showing sexual violence is going to be in any way helpful? I think we already know too well that sexual violence exists; it's so harmful! Sam is glorifying it, he's not trying to. make us "realise" anything in my opinion. I agree, make people uncomfortable, but tell these hard truths, and explain in the art why it's harmful. Yes, make people see their skeletons by holding them accountable, not for show.
This was actually a great press conference and made me really interested in watching the show!
I'm so excited for it to come out!! And I think that all those people who are causing this "drama" (= cancel culture) are making this show (more) iconic because, as far as I know without having watched it, it is NOT supposed to be a fairytale and the characters are not supposed to be role models. It is about a PrObLeMaTiC world so of course that's what we're going to get to see. I feel like nowadays people have stopped separating films/art from the real world which I don't think is a good thing because it limits artists too much. Let's, at least, wait for the whole thing to come out, then you can form an opinion and express it (without starting hate campaigns btw).

I really think the first two episodes are supposedly over the top to keep the viewers retention and later episodes tones down and stick to a good plot.

Ugh. All Lily Rose does is show her tits, in every other Scene. TOO much nudity, to many gross sx scenes, Lily is being demeaned and degraded throughout the first 2 Episodes. The Jocelyn Character is a crazy, insecure girl who chokes herself and cuts herself. THIS SERIES IS VERY DERANGED AND PERVERTED.

The show was not as bad as people wanted it to be , but daaammmnnnn it still had so much more potential 💔.
In a dream world the original series idea would be my season 1, we get a feel for Jocelyn, her brand, her team and her relationship with her mom... And then at the end of the first season her mom dies and they cancel her tour and Sam takes over season 2, she meets Tedros and changes into this dark sexual direction for the new album but flesh out how Joce doesnt mind the evil manipulation because it will always be for her

After watching this press conference, my theory is Sam and Abel (and maybe fellow series creator Reza Fahim) had some good ideas but just don't have the maturity or real-world experience yet to translate those ideas into good television. The Idol's only good parts clearly are from the original version, before Amy Seimetz was ditched and the men "retooled" the show. Maybe Abel wanted to make it darker and more twisted to reflect his experiences in the music industry. But the show is shallow and messy, and so far it has really harmful messages about abuse and trauma. Lily-Rose Depp is fearless, though, and Hank Azaria and Da'Vine Joy Randolph are my favorites in the supporting cast. Condolences to Hank on losing his mom.
What harmful messages does it have?
As a woman who was able to see the character Jocelyn and get triggered massively, because I’ve been in situations similarly where my vulnerability was taken advantage of as a woman, I really cannot watch the show. I’ve seen other shows and other movies that portrayed it a lot better personally lol. Maybe I’m just not a fan of Sam Levinson depictions of situations, but I am OK with that. Lol

I think they are more concerned about the poor skript, poor acting and that many of the s*x scenes don't seem to add anything to the story.
I think what people are concerned about is the way that people depict the vulnerability of a woman in Hollywood. I’ve seen a bunch of other movies and shows that have showed it better. If people like super raunchy sexual shows, then go ahead and watch them, but I personally could not watch or finish the show because it was extremely triggering and it brought back dark feelings. I’m all for a super sexual crazy dark shit if it makes sense lol.

People trying to cancel everyone and outraged that these women agreed to act in the idol will see everything in a different light at the end of the series. I am hopeful and confident that these women and especially Lily (who was given so much freedom to choose how Jocelyn would look, dress and act) are speaking the truth and that the series will conclude in a light necessary to address the issues that a pop star faces in industry and society.
With all the bad reviews and backlash the show is getting I'm sure it's going to be more popular than Euphoria
I think everyone is missing the point of this show they are trying to tell you what is happening to these young artist and for some for years yes it's RAW and dark and seedy no one cares what might be happening to these pop stars as long as they are putting out hits I know the next response will be well that's the life they choose yes they did BUT no one would ever want to be in the clutches of someone like the Weeknd character and it probably happens more than you think they record exes don't care as depicted in the show they know it's going on but it's ok she making music I applaud Abel for making this series it took courage ! and when he refenced I hope it pisses some people off he meant the record labels he has exposing Hollywood for years in his songs the show is cringe and disturbing but it's real and he trying to tell you what is happening thank you Abel ❤️

This just made me hate sam levinson so much more, the way he talks about the heavy sexualisation of girls in his work is so funny (19:55 question!) because its so obvious he's choosing his words carefully, because he's hiding under this superficial guise of caring about everything about a woman besides her sexuality, but it's shown in both of his shows that almost every female character is so overly sexualised to a strange point. Whenever he attempts to make a female character that actually has any depth, I think he fails. They always feel inauthentic. Take Sydney Sweeney wanting less nude scenes in euphoria; obviously she was uncomfortable with it. Maybe Lily is fine with it and that's ok, that's her decision, but I honestly think her, abel, and possibly the rest of the cast are blindsided by his vision. If I had a say in the writing room, I would ask to write in more emotional depth, and less over sexualisation. Also sorry but the fact Sam loves Tarantino is kinda funny, Tarantino often talked about very young girls sexually. I have so much more to say on this, but i honestly don't want to waste my energy.

if you dont like it then dont watch it. its as simple as that. the show 1st off isn’t completely out yet, and 2nd off its not supposed to be a fairytale show where everyone gets along and everythings happy. its a dark, moody, raw, and twisted show. its art. they didn’t wake up and decide they wanted to make a porno, theres definitely a deeper meaning to all of it. just take it for what it is and be a little more open minded to something different

His music was never meant for the youth. The parental advisory label exists for a reason. This show was never meant for the youth, that's why it's only gonna be shown on HBO.

He and Sam are creepy with the way they overly sexualised Lily-Rose's character. Some of the scenes I've read sound messed up. The whole show sounds like a mess.
