Time to get the girls involved. Easy for them to get left out when the eldest is a boy. Girls make just as good operators as boys ( sometimes better as they tend to do as they are shown and not experiment on their own)

I am pretty sure he knows. Although, we were both teenagers ourselves and we probably wouldn't admit it to anyone or ourselves. Onyx is a smart young man . To me he is living the dream, cause he has his dad and grandfather. I really miss mine.

Seems like they could make a grain hopper extension that goes over the cab to increase the combine capacity, especially since there always seems to be grain up there!

Just a heads up, air hose size has a HUGE effect on your impact power. Use half inch line, and get rid of any restrictions like swivels or joints. Run it at as high a pressure as your compressor will allow.
The extension also affect the power.
1" hose straight off the side of the air tank is what we use for the big gun
I think there is a safety bolt in there looks like it.
Adding some heat to the nut might have helped too.
First thoughts when I heard the impact gun was that it’s short of air. That 1” gun needs at least a 3/4 line and a big compressor otherwise next to useless in my experience.

Amazing how much you are at the mercy of the weather!! It can make, or break, you. I appreciate your resilience of bouncing back and forth between soybeans and corn there. And I ALWAYS marvel at the farmer's ability to diagnose and fix nearly any problem with equipment. One thing I learned with them big impacts is if you hold the shaft tight in the direction you want to turn and not let it bounce it will hit harder. It's not a massive change, but it can make the difference between hammering endlessly or getting it to break free.
Zack, hopefully we can meet Mom sometime soon. We all know she is the glue of the whole operation.

Zach, at 13:00 you were wondering about the impact. Are you running 150 psi or 90? Many years ago when I worked at a heavy duty truck shop, we were using 150 psi for the big impact guns because that was where you got them close to the rated output. We also had a 90 psi, regulated line for smaller guns and for airing up smaller tires, but we always found that the big stuff takes a higher pressure to get the job done. HTH…
New grain dryer for us this year. The Quadra Touch really is a mind calming addition. As you said, I sleep better at night now.

We use the loader bucket to break loose our disc nuts. It's a Summer's and you get 2 big wrenches that are roughly 3 feet long. I add on a 4' heavy walled tubing over the 3' wrench bar, set the disc on the ground, one wrench goes on the opposite end nut resting on the ground and the loader bucket on the other end wrench.
You should use your finger snap trick to make the corn stand back up, can't believe you didn't think of that. You're welcome
Just love your videos! Grew up on a very,very small farm in South Carolina and I have thoroughly enjoyed you videos ever since I found you. I've had two back surgeries so I've had time to watch at least all up to last year's videos and enjoyed them all!! I'm 55 and your videos sure bring back memories!
Once had conditions like that. Cut across behind the down corn, make two fields, pick the gòod stand, you won't have as far to go on the one direction corn.

A camera can never do justice to picking down corn. I feel for you. Stresses a person out. You rock in order to keep doing it and videotaping also. Most farmers would just go nuts picking down corn. Way to not comment on bushels per acre, every farmer does not miss that number.
We had a Wischek disk just like that where I used to work. There was a wrench with it for the big nuts, We
attached a chain to the wrench and pulled on it with a pick up to break them loose. OSHA approved. Becky cracked me up. I guess there's a blue pill that helps things stand up.

12:50 I think you guys just need a buffer tank. thats a lot of hose to try and get full volume/pressure through, sure its big, but its long. a couple gallons a few feet away with a nice fat hose will make a difference.

When using the impact put a big pipe wrench to help loosen and tighten the nut
Onyx is precious. Teens are ALWAYS hungry.
Slugging wrenches can be handy, with or without a 10' pipe. And, torque multipliers arent terribly expensive anymore. Im the first one to use impacts but ive got a decade of experience with big bolts and never started with an impact, youd be surprised what you can do with a pipe and a big box wrench.
A hydraulic wrench like a hytorc xlct would probably be a good investment considering the amount of equipment you have, but i understand that often times you probably dont have time to fix things so maybe a service tech who owns that stuff is a better fit. By the way, love the channel, thanks to you for the "acting", and your wife for all her hard work editing!
One Horney Farmer has a tool to quicky change gathering chains by compressing the spring. I recall that he bought his thru New Holland (Case-IH)

Boy it must get boring with such flat fields. Just finished beans here in Ontario Canada. Last field has a big nasty hill in it. Gotta be close to 40 degree slope going across it sideways. Only taking 1/2 a head width at the start to the hill and missing 2 feet on the far end because the combines sliding down the hill and cant hold it.
All socket extensions are torsional springs and therefore soften the impact torque to the nut.
Probably need bigger hose and fittings to move more air for the impact, it sounds like it's starving for air, check the CFM and PSI requirements. Also a special type of ratchet called a torque multiplier will triple the torque you apply, works with cheater bars or impacts.

A little secret about your impact gun that you might try that has worked for me. use a portable 5-10 gal. air tank where you are working with your 1/4'' or 3/8'' inch hose input, and use a 3/4'' or 1'' hose about 8' or less out of the portable tank. It really makes a huge difference in the volume of air and pressure to the gun. Also run the max pressure you can to the gun within specs. lastly use air tool oil or hydraulic oil in your gun every time you use it. Try it you will be amazed!
Feeling your pain....we Beta-tested one of the first FMC sweet corn harvesters back in 1970 and elevator chain disconnects drove us crazy until we solved the cause of the problem where the head was depositing the ears which occasionally got trapped and unlinked the chain leaving it 30 feet behind the machine. A simple flap and never happened again but you're dealing with Nature's fury and that can be more frustrating.
I rememer last years harvest was super easy and you kept telling us how everything was going so smooth... You jinxed yourself.
What size air hose was that on the big impact? 3/8”? To get all the power out of those impacts, they need all the air you can possibly feed them. 1/2” hose minimum and if you run a regulator, turn it all the way up as high as it will go. 3/4” to 1” feed line really helps too. You can also put a T in before the regulator with a high volume quick connect for a dedicated impact hose.
For that mess under the dryer, you could put some tin sitting up at an angle underneath it to get that mess to slide in one direction for easier cleanup. You could also put something on skids at the bottom to catch it all so that you could just grab in with the skid steer to dump occasionally.

Check all the fittings for your airline. For your big impact gun, you may have a restriction with a small fitting. Or you have Weak pressure PSI 170 preferred. Cheap air fittings tend to have low flow
Impact torque need full pressure at full cfm. Just the size and length of your air hose can have an effect on the top end of the big impact gun.
Stuck nuts are always a pain. Not that this is new to you but sometimes tightening and then loosening a few times can crack em loose. It sounds counterintuitive but sometimes it works. That or heat it a nice cherry red colour. Then put your impact on it.
When I farmed in 1975 we had a 4400 John Deere combine the last 300 acres of corn the stalks were wet and fell down the only thing we had to get the corn up was a small grain head it was slow but we didn't lose much corn another good show if it wasn't so far from south Georgia to Minnesota I would enjoy helping with corn harvest with a little experience farming by planting 1000 acres of corn and after farming I drove a truck over the road for 37 years
You need a bigger hose for your big impact that can feed it, 3/4 inch inside diameter would be about the minimum. 1 inch guns tend to be a bit hungry for air. You may also need to upgrade your air storage and add in a big air tank so your compressor won’t run all the time when using things like that impact.
I’m sure you get a lot of comments, but I’m guessing you are using standard air hose fittings. You get a 1/2 hose with Milton G style fittings it will make that air wrench come alive!! In addition to your smaller tools. Hope this helps

Man, onyx is livin the dream, getting to work on a successful farm with not only his dad, but his grandad, i have never even seen mine as my last remaining grandparent died the year I was born, but I’m very grateful that I get to live and work on a first gen farm with my dad. It’s an amazing experience as we both learn something everyday, there is definitely a ton of knowledge to learn, and we are just getting the hand of it(our 3rd year) but after a few long and hard seasons, things are starting to look like they have a bright side, so maybe one day my son will be working with me and my dad. Hopefully that day comes.

I don't think you would enjoy doing anything but farming. I used to sit in front of a machine 40 plus hrs. a week. To regain some sanity i switched to outdoor work for the rest of my working career. With a big gun like that you need a bigger hose. If you have to use a small hose then short bursts is where the power is because the hose cant flow enough and the pressure at the gun drops alot.
Zach, get a small skid vac like lesions have for cleaning around the dryer and even in the dryer you’ll save yourself hours a year. Also remember when Zach used to have to walk out to the grain dryer every couple of hours at night? That was pre technology that always him to check it from his bed
When driving back from Texas we saw flat corn in either Kansas or Oklahoma Osceola, not sure it was wind or bug damage.

Sounds like the impact isn't hammering very fast. Bigger hose and air fittings would help big time. If your running the standard air hose fittings
I used to work at Great Plains building gangs and the jig that they're put together in is crazy! The air gun is stationary to the jig because of the amount of torque to tighten that gang nut. Every once in awhile we had to remove one by hand and it's not easy. Loving the videos 📹

Lots of farm areas are like you, rain on and off and muddy conditions. Makes for a long day in the mud. Larsons had a combine stuck but got it out.
Blown over corn is hard to deal with. Takes a lot more time to combine.
Onyx is hungry. Poor kid. Fix him up some chow mom and dad. Growing young boy-ha!!!!
Always maintenance repairs on combines and tillage equipment. You have had your fair share on the corn header operation. You and dad get it fixed and rolling again in good time.
Hopefully you can continue corn harvest and move right along. Doing good so far.
