  • This is a cab view of the Chichibu Railway, which runs through Saitama Prefecture, from Ohanabatake Station to Yorii Station.
Saitama Prefecture is a prefecture that borders Tokyo to the north, and the Chichibu Railway is a 71.7km private railway that runs from east to west in the center of Saitama Prefecture (there is also a 3.9km freight branch line). In this video, the train runs 25.9km east from Ohanabatake Station, which is on the west side of this line, until it reaches Yorii Station.
The starting point, Ohanabatake Station, connects with the Seibu Railway, which starts in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and Yorii Station, connects with the Tobu Railway, which also starts in Ikebukuro.
The Chichibu Railway transports limestone produced along the line, and facilities for this purpose can be seen throughout. In addition, the stations are wide enough to accommodate long freight trains.
Chichibu Railway began preserving and operating steam locomotives in 1988. This is also the day when the steam locomotives are in operation, and you can see many fans taking pictures of the trains along the line.

Thank you for another train ride. I enjoyed this ride very much and in particular passing by the mountain side. It was fascinating to me to see the mountains were covered with deep greenery. I love the Japanese country side. Please keep this great work coming.

Thank you for your comment. Late April to early May is the season when Japan's mountains shine the most.

Such a wide variety of lineside scenery in such a short distance. I enjoy these cab rides that show what you normally don't get to see.

Thank you for your comment. The scenery typical of a mountain village spreads along the Chichibu Railway. In the past, the area was also famous for its sericulture industry. Raw silk was an important export item for Japan 100 years ago.

Another great video. There were a lot of photographers along this line waiting for the Steam train(s). A lovely loco.

A very interesting trip for me, crowned with a steam train encounter at Nogami station, led by the JNR steam locomotive C 58 363!
I noticed the many stations built at relatively short intervals, the nice, old platform roofs - partly made of wood, partly made of steel, the relatively steep angle of many switch connections (almost like on a model railway) - so fast-moving trains are not possible here. .. and of course the forested and green mountains right up to the mountain peaks! 😊
As you can read in your description and see in the film, many photographers were probably only on the route because of the steam train, almost a kind of pilgrimage... but here in Germany it's no different: if there's a steam train running somewhere, that's what it says around quickly!
Maybe you know the TV series “Eisenbahn-Romantik” (English translation: “Railway romantic”). Apparently it is also known in Japan and many of the mostly half-hour programs have reported on the railway from Japan! ☺️

Japanese railways and German railways have several things in common that always encourage Japanese railway fans.
For example, it is a driving style that is very systematic and keeps to set times.
We are a little disappointed that Japan is not as enthusiastic about railway models as Germany is.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a station with a slightly older atmosphere? This is one of the attractions of this route.

@@14ikesan12 I absolutely agree with you: for example, when modernizing here in Germany, the old switch and signaling technology as well as the railway structures are rigorously dismantled and replaced with new ones... 🙄
Then you can get in and out easily and perhaps reach your destination even faster...
But the true charm of a railway with the motto: The journey is the destination... is clearly lost as a result 🤔🫤
I don't post anything here on CZcams, but I have an Instagram account on which I partly document exactly this topic and document many old conditions of the railway in my home region...
Many greetings and a relaxing weekend

Wow, at 19:20 there is some graffiti on the wall under the bridge, that is such a rare sight in Japan!

Was it there? Yesterday, I went to an industrial area in the southern part of Kawasaki City, and there was some graffiti left on the wall. Also, it seems that there are still some left.
