That's just one song. Styx has a superb discography. Then again so does Boston, Rolling Stones, Beatles, The Cars, ZZTop... That's about a hundred years of material just in the classic rock era alone.

  • @GarrettEulett
    @GarrettEulett Před rokem +14

The classic lineup of Styx consisted of Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, James "JY" Young, and Chuck and John Panozzo. Their sound was basically split in half down the middle, between Dennis DeYoung's ballads and Tommy Shaw's rock songs, with James Young having a song here and there, and the Panozzo brothers just being the rhythm section. They were a band that the listening public loved and critics hated, because critics have no souls.,

And "Lady" pulls at the soul another epic tune! Styx is legendary band like Journey & Floyd....I too am a hip hop head mostly, but am an all round music lover all my life! This song is a Staple at Pittsburgh Steelers home game. It started when Steelers were losing to the Browns in the 3rd quarter, and fans were defeated. They played it and the stadium started getting energy again. The Steelers beat the browns after being down by a big number. Now, I’ve remembered it in the 4th quarter while at games. The whole stadium ROCKS out to this!!!

Great reaction. Thanks. Going to send you down another rabbit hole. Styx's singer, Tommy Shaw, joined Jack Blades from Night Ranger (another worthwhile listen with "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", "(You Can Still) Rock in America" and "Sister Christian") and Ted Nugent to form Damn Yankees back in 1990. Their first album went double platinum with songs like "High Enough" and "Coming of Age" both great. Their second album produced the song "Come Again" (most recommended). Well worth a listen. After two albums, the members all went back to doing other things.

Hector, I can put a song here that I KNOW will blow your mind. Guaranteed. The song is called Foreplay/Longtime by the group Boston. Let me mention that the debut album was one (1) guy that recorded EVERYTHING in a basement studio. But he didn't really like his voice as a singing voice, so got a friend to sing on the album for him. The album was such a hit that he had to form a band to go on a concert tour. Check out the song. I promise that you will freak out, and I am pretty sure you will rewind it at least once. Enjoy!!

Styx has been my favorite band since 1977 - wide variety of song styles since 3 songwriters/lead singers. From hard rock to power ballads, jazz-rock fusion to prog, they have great stuff for everyone with top-notch musicianship and vocals.
"Renegade" is probably their most-played song, but in addition to the hits there are a lot of deep cuts that are awesome.
"Come Sail Away" is a big hit - make sure you listen to the album version or live from 1996 Return To Paradise tour (and NOT the "official video" which is a cut-down MTV video).
    My other suggestions are:
"Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue" , "Fooling Yourself", "CASTLE WALLS", "Man In The Wilderness", "Lady", "Crystal Ball", "Snowblind", "Queen Of Spades", "Blue Collar Man", "A Day", "Born For Adventure", "Young Man", and lots more.

You always make me laugh! True story! I was arrested for having a roach in my purse at a Styx concert. They didn't find the two Quaaludes in my pocket so I had an interesting night in jail! BTW... This was in the late 70s! Still rocking 🤘🏼

👍 hard to believe you describe the fucking difference.
Styx was another must have in the cassette suitcase. Lol.
Styx is the river of the Underworld the dead must cross.
Would love to see your reaction too Frank Zappa. You might start with "Don't eat the yellow snow".
Many groups from Deep Purple to Pink Floyd had influences from Frank Zappa.
I have a long lost tape on my channel of Frank jamming with Pink Floyd for a few days while they were all tripping.

"Don't eat the yellow snow suite" from the album Apostrophe '!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
      1_don't eat the yellow snow
      2_ Nanook Rubs it
      3_St Alfonso Pancake Breakfast
      4_Father O'Blivion
these four songs must be played together they follow each other
the Pink Floyd with Zappa is really very funny when we see them completely high while Frank couldn't stand it, if you know the video ,(and Frank) ,it's clear that he would like to be somewhere else !! but the piece is very good.
Frank Zappa is the ultimate rabbit hole!!!!
"the muffin man" from Bongo Fury is a good start?
from 68 all the greatest were influenced by Zappa, the Beatles, Hendrix, Sabbath etc.... at some point there will have to be Zappa here!!!!!!😂😂😂🔥👍

@@lepetitoiseau true much of Zappa's work should be played in succession. Glad you clarified about Frank's sobriety as he was likely only high on nicotine. Lol
I think it was in '68 they came out with we're only in it for the money album. Excellent satire on the Beatles album. And then slamming other groups as well as what was taking place in San Francisco. "Hey punk where you going with that flower in your hand."

@@Ozarkprepper643 three addictions for Frank :work, tobacco and coffee,!!!😆 his first album is Freak out in 1966, then, absolutely free in 67, then Lumpy Gravy the same year, we're only in it for the money is the fourth, which is a "funny satire" of the hippie movement, only the cover is a nod to the Beatles!!!!
I'm happy to have found a Zappa Fan in the area!! arf to you!😆

How about "Saga's On the Loose"? I picture it as your theme song. You'll see why.
