Guys. You are all saying that he is jealous. Maybe.
But the most important thing is, if you don't remember : the last music piece is a composition of House himself. And when House stopped playingm it was because he had not written the end of the music, because he never was able to find the end.
And the patient just continued, and finish the track.
House is not jealous, he is stunned, because before him is something he made and is proud of, and he finally has closure on it. I truly think he is thankful, more than he is jealous.
im jelly, but ill keep it to myself.. oh wait
Well said. I don't know how anybody could've gotten "jealous" from that scene and not "awe".
I don't think he is jealous. House is not the type to be. I think this scene shows one of the rare moments of House actually admiring someone.
yes, and not only that, he resents that he has to cut half this guy brain to give him a better life
It doesn't have to be one or the other. It can be both.
House isn't jealous. He's in awe. A piece he couldn't finish was completed by someone in a hospital gown. For someone who had the answer to questions, he got his questions answered.
I think he always wanted someone to finish that piece
You're exactly right. I have always wondered what percentage of people can pick up stuff like this.
You can see the awe and humility in House's eyes, he is deeply moved by this performance and it shows. We don't see House this honest very often. One of my very favorite scenes from the entire series.
If i remember right House was working on this piece earlier in the episode and couldn't figure out where to go with it and he (the patient) just showed him as if it were nothing
@@laughingatstupidity32 he said he wrote it in high school or something but could never figure out what's next
What an embarrassment for all mankind
This episode and this awful show should have never happened

*When you realize that the actor of House, Hugh Laurie, is a musical artist himself and has released two albums as of his own as of now.*
It sounds like this wasn’t that moment, you seem to have realized all those details before he played piano.
I myself a young adolescent got into House M.D. a few months ago- I wish I was there in the moment when it was regularly on TV, fandom shrunk sadly
The other guy is a musical writer. And let me check. He wrote for House while he was there.
Vance McCarthy
That’s Dave Mathews. :)
I didn’t know that thank u
It seems as if Hugh really enjoyed playing the piano here.
Ariana Zuniga That's because he plays the piano in real life.
Ariana Zuniga he can really play it to.
He played piano a lot in Jeeves and Wooster
Of course, he got to play with Dave!!
He played it often on A bit of Fry and Laurie too:
czcams.com/video/0x4Q7JUkpD4/video.html
Ah yes that spare piano the hospital has next to the band aids and trombones.
Troy D a lot of places like hospitals have pianos mostly for kids as they can play on them and he could have went out and rented one from a shop
Most likely took it from the on sight chapel.
The hospitals I’ve worked at have so many random things including but not limited to
Grandfather clock, a pet bird who’s owner died and they kinda just keep and correlated sheet metal
If you've spent any time in a hospital, there is usually a mini grand in the lobby, or at least an upright on one of the med/surg floors.
I seriously spit out my drink reading this wonderfully sarcastic comment. Hahahahahha.
I loved this episode and this scene was epic, House connecting with a patient but at the same time feeling a little jealous of his talent.
Definitely this is one of my top 10 moments in the whole show
Sara Zonana yup. Also that's Daves mathews
Sara Zonana he is just curious. Otherwise why would he take all the trouble to bring the piano in the first place, when you are jealous you don't give a damn! He has a good heart to see beauty even who are suffering from trauma.
No I wouldn't say that. There were two times in particular where this was the case where House was curious and jealous of someone while able to connect with them. One was the Sax player, the other was the gold digging psycho. There are times where House shows jealousy towards someone for having that same drive towards one particular subject in the same way he has towards problem solving. Its not displayed in a way of anger as most people who are jealous don't express negativity but instead bottle it up. When House is jealous you can see his demeanor change slightly and the case becomes a bit more personal for him probably because in a way he's trying to fix someone who's just like him, not in that meta way of fixing himself or anything like that but its just that odd connection.
mine too
what episode is that?
Two Foremans in the same room. It's amazing.
Red must be really confused with what happened to his son Eric.
That's true and kind of cruel at the same time.
I was waiting for a "DUMBASS!"
@@justincheng6948 - SAME HERE. That or some Clarence Boddickerisms.
Two houses in the same room... (Experts at their respective crafts).
The patient looks like a weird combination of Tom Hanks and Jim Parsons.
Levo GAMES that’s Dave Mathews, the musician
Levo GAMES I KNEW IT!
Omg I lost it reading this comment ahahaha
oh my god this description.
the skill and talent of Tom Hanks, and the deformed derpiness of Jim Parsons.
Talented guy. He should start a band and name it after himself. I'm sure he will have some success.
Nit Picker 😂😂 I saw what you did there!!
Lolll
🐜 would be marching to see him.
*Kicks the nit picker slowly with a band percussion!*
House band?
House has nearly all his stats maxed out but every so often there is one patient who has one stat maxed out, like this guy and the chess kid, and gets jealous.
CaseNumber00 but it wasnt the same.
with patrick he felt identified with he liked patrick.
the jerk well he hated that guy
didn't house technically win the chess match?
That's exactly what I was thinking too. He is way above average when it comes to pretty much everything but there are some people who are extraordinarily good at just one thing and he gets a little flustered.
House beat The Jerk Chess kid tho ;)
Jack of all trades is a master of none.
I really need this to be an entire song. Absolutely beautiful.
It’s called “I Have No Memories “ by Slacker
@@siddarthaomarley2322
Awesome. Thank you!
@@siddarthaomarley2322 actually I think you’ll find it ‘I don’t like Mondays’ by the boomtown rats
@@reaver4149 : I think you'll find he was referring to House's heretofore unfinished composition. ;)
@@siddarthaomarley2322 Thanks. I always wondered.
Playing piano with Dave Matthews, incredible
ROUSH4203 I thought that was him!
From a musical standpoint, I see this as House speaking with the patient in a language the patient speaks back. The patient has a hard time with words, but can express themselves better via the piano. The chime at 1:18 repeated throughout the song sounds to me like, "Do you hear what I say now?" For a person as lonely as house, sharing this unfinished piece with a patient almost expressionless without the piano would be saying, "Hey, do I know how you feel?" and "Can you speak in this language, instead of words?" The first 2 chimes indicate an understanding.
I feel house starts the conversation with something about himself, and the patient responds empathetically, but house doesn't want empathy more than he wants to know what is going on with the patient, and lightly suggests, "yeah but I want to hear about you."
The patient responds, maybe nervously, since the patient perhaps doesn't get opportunities like this often (as per the dad doesn't know if the patient is happy, from the next clip Patient Savant Starts ...), or maybe because the patient may often not be heard when they say, and is afraid of that. House more forcefully pushes the patient to express, and 1:36 suggests the patient is trapped and feels frustrated and angry, as per the darker tone.
The last thing was "do you hear me now?" And maybe house wanted the mri since he was shook, and wanted to make sure what he thought wasn't wrong, cause if he was right, "sucks man."
I'm also not sure that this is truly an unfinished piece like everyone says, since (1:11) house is like, "eh, idk if it'll work, but don't think about it, let's just see," 1:26 house is like "Huh, this is cool and odd and interesting. I mean, I feel like if it was truly just unfinished, did house write in all the interruptions and pauses for response? Maybe, but I feel even more brilliant would be the ability to seriously understand what someone who can't speak is saying, no? Anyone can write a piece if they can try their best, right? That alone wouldn't say house has a lot of skill, since there wouldn't be a double ability to express in a conversation.
You literally wrote what I was thinking. Great way of interpreting this amazing scene
WHATS THE SONG NAME
@@happyblt624 I have no memory by Slacker
This scene moved me so much, even though I saw it years ago I still think of that beautiful melody
That 70's hospital
He came to see Kitty !
Red Forman!!
And Eric Foreman;]
Dr foremans full name is Eric foreman
Hanging out down Plainsboro! we're alright, we're alright", hello New Jersey!
The reflection and juxtaposition in this scene is dynamic and transfixing. The patient’s contribution to House’s music conveys a deep and indissoluble sorrow. It transforms the peaceful tenure of House’s work into something more somber and haunting, evocative of a trauma long-held. This is reflected in Foreman’s comment to House- “An fMRI won’t show trauma”. And yet, the transformation provides House both catharsis and curiosity, a state of being he will impart back to the patient at the expense of his gift begot from said trauma. In his catharsis, House counters that he wants to “see the music”- the etiology of how the patient’s body has responded and matured despite its developmental divergence/arrest. It is both pathogenesis and healing, lucidity and shadow, truth and obscurity, mirrored and transmitted through music and medicine.
How deep and accurate explanation! Touched me essencially
The clapping always gets me 😂
Dave Matthews is one of the most talented people ever
Dude can play anything
I was thinking this was Dave. I love the the DMB.
House loves the human side of curing illness more than he'd ever admit
Nah, he just cares about the puzzle and what's interesting. He couldn't care less about the patient, though the actually interesting ones pique his interest enough to occasionally have a little be more interest in them outside the puzzle.
Hugh probably actually played the piano in this scene. He's an exceedingly amazing pianist
And I believe he can play a number of other instruments as well.
Unfortunately he wasn‘t actually playing the piano in this scene. If Hugh truly can play the piano, then this is a real shame because they could have allowed him both to record himself playing this piece and then, on set, to play “with himself” so to speak.
edit: sorry, upon closer examination Hugh was actually playing the piano, but for whatever reason the audio is a semitone higher than what he should be. For example the first note of this piece is a C# as heard, but Hugh plays a C.
Hes had a lucrative music carrer. All the scene of you see of House playing instruments/ singing is all him. When he does Georgia on my mind you can see the passion in his face as he plays. That's somethings that can't be faked, even by the best actors
@@RANINGHAVOC I did already say I agree he is actually playing.
hands down one of the best scene's from the house series in my opinion. The interaction between the two is brilliant.
You can literally see the emotion in his eyes when he is playing.
One of my favorite scenes from House. It's glorious. I also remember how House talked to Wilson about how the patient finished this incomplete composition he's had for so long.
I’m in so in love with Dave Matthews and House! A huge fan of them both! This was AMAZING to see them together ❤❤❤
The intro to "I don't like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats was what House played
Thank you Hugh Laurie and Dave Matthews for bringing completion tears to this pianist's eyes and soul. ❤
I’ve fallen in love with this guy so many times, House is truly amazing
What a great scene. This show is iconic
What's amazing about this is that Hugh Laurie actually plays piano, meeting Dave Matthews must of been amazing on set. Hugh Laurie was literally born to play house.
in real life Dave plays guitar mainly of course.. but also has played some piano though not nearly as well as Hugh Laurie.
here's Dave at Radio City on piano..the song is basic but beautiful: czcams.com/video/GmkmNA-l9i0/video.html
The name of the second song is "I have no Memory - Slacker."
Andrew Curley :D
Andrew Curley The first song is the opening of I Don't Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats! Love that song. For such a disturbing song, the music was quite beautiful. The song was banned for quite a while here in the US as it was deemed inappropriate because the song was based on one of the first school shootings in the States.
Thank you!
thank you king

1:12 what a beautiful song :)

you rock Dave Matthews! great acting.
Great episode! I was choked up when he did up his buttons. 🥺
didnt realize that was actually Dave Matthews
The piece they play together is really beautiful with 4 hands. I wish it would be published somewhere.
The song at 0:22 is "I Don't Like Mondays" from The Boomtown Rats.
You're welcome
For me it's one of the finest impressive scenes of House MD. BEAUTIFUL.❤
How sweet he's actually bonding with a patient
It's not sweet, he doesn't care about him personally, just that he's interesting and House likes interesting, if he wasn't interesting he wouldn't care less lol.
House is a brilliant pianist. I'm speechless and overwhelmed by immense jubilation.
House didn't feel jealous at the end. House finally got closure for his unfinished piece, that put him in peace for a couple of mins
Miss this show so much
See the music
When he started playing I had flashbacks to the “A bit of Fry and Laurie” theme tune
Well done - I see you are a true man of the arts.
Classic Dave Matthews. Improvising on songs and making them amazing
♥️Dave
I have this exact same piano from my grandparents. The best series on television to date.
When you think House couldn't get any hotter, somehow he does :)
For real. Also this comment is a little bit late 😉 so late you probably don't even remember writing it

Watching this episode
Love it
I'm watching house as i type this, i missed this part and I'm glad i had got a chance to see it on CZcams.
This scene is probably my favorite scene in all the seasons.
at 1:17 ive always loved that tune... don't know if its a real song or what but this tune from this episode always stuck with me.
..."...I wanna SEE the MUSIC..."...!
...Dr.House😚😏
Classical instruments make the most beautiful of sounds. 😍
You could actually see the pain and remorse in House’s eyes, both as a doctor and as a fellow pianist, knowing that this brain-damaged savant’s gift to create beautiful music is what’s killing him. It must be tough to hear that and then say that in order to live, you need to lose that talent.
Technically he didn't need his right brain removed, he has seizures yeah but his condition is manageable. Thing is house had an interaction with the guy while he was laying down on a check up table, clued him in that the guy didn't have much of a life because of his brain injury when he was 10. Turns out his right brain was weighing his left brain down, making it hard for the left to function to maximal capacity. In exchange for his gift the surgery gave him a "life". Probably calls back to that one sax player episode in the 1st season. His " One thing " Robbed him from anything else. Pretty interesting that House was very motivated to give him a life in exchange
Loved this. ❤
I always get goosebumps at the part after he says: "my turn"
The childish joy in House's face when he claps 😂
Just goosebumps.
This tune is just Beauty ❤️
Definitely one of my favorite house scenes.

Re-watching this after a decade since it was aired and its interesting seeing Dave Matthews play a slow boy and his father is Red Forman! (and also the bad guy from robocop)!!! I love it!
I'm in love with the first composition.
I don't label people as genius very often. In fact I don't think I have ever done it before. I am not lucky enough to have experienced exceptional people around me. Hugh Laurie's acting in this scene, the use of microexpressions, the corners of his mouth and the eyebrows is the closest thing to acting genius I have conciously seen. He's brilliant.
Great piano sound for something resembling a spinet.
I miss House and his piano playing sooo much.❤️
He is multi talented I love him
Dave Matthew's does some serious ACTING in this episode!! :)
That is the feeling when you find out someone's soul can sing your same harmony.
Wow, he is great!
Thank you for sharing this. Music & Art are such Universal languages.
Dave Matthews!!!
Dave Matthew is a legend
Best part is the smile the guy has when house claps during the pause in the music
Hugh Laurie is actually pretty good at the piano himself. He used to play the piano a lot in his earlier work.
Loved that first music part, later learnt what song it was about...
what
House suddenly coming in and playing piano
For those who don't know what a music talent Hugh Laurie is...
DAVE MATTHEWS♡
I agree with Sara Zonana....Few times "House" connects with patients. And the piano music was really something. The piano can be such a moving instrument. All in the hands and mind of the person ..Hugh Laurie really does play the piano.
The only ones saying Dr. House got jealous are the people who get jealous of others projecting their own insecurities on him. All I see in this scene is admiration from an artist to another. Ha!
Dave Matthews!!!!!!!!
Also presently available to watch until August 2018 on UK Now TV (I'm personally having a second binge!)
If that's Dave Matthews that's my man!!! I LOVE HIM

For music lovers this scene is a pleasure!
I loved the use of Boomtown Rats!
THE SILICON CHIP IN SIDE HER HEAD IS SWITCHED TO OVERLOAD
