DaVinci resolve was the main reason i got the M2 iPad Pro. I used it to edit a full wedding! Paired with the speed editor i could not tell a difference editing on my main machine, this a powerful editing machine i can bring anywhere (more portable than a laptop)
Were you able to generate proxies?
@@kurtnelle for the projects I use it for it didn’t need proxies. You can generate them if you need to by using the cut page (be sure to play around with the proxies settings or the files will be massive)
@@kurtnelle best way of generating them is with the blackmagic proxy generator application, once they are generated the files work flawlessly on the iPad.
@@PopoRamos Yea but I wanted to generate them on the Ipad since when I'm at the event, I don't have access to a computer that can run Davinci Resolve Desktop.
@@kurtnelle it is possible but not as straightforward. I have edited 4 streams of 4k videos in multicam without the need for proxy. Try and see if you can get away without proxy. I think blackmagic should create a proxy generator app for the iPad, that would be perfect
For work I’ve used it to edit a lot of videos while on the road as I prefer an iPad for watching content than my MacBook Pro and if I’m using Raw/prores footage I’ve not found a need to pull the MacBook out unless I need the extra screen real estate that the studio monitor gives. BMD really knocked this thing out of the park, the ability to lay down on a couch and do colour is mind blowing to me every time I do it. I just wish it had better external monitor support!
thanks for sharing shortcut. i prefer edit over cut too. 🤟🏼
I really love what Blackmagic has done with the iPad version. I feel very confident in using it for editing my videos. The updates keep on coming and each one brings new features and improvements. ❤❤
It’s great that they are basically updating it alongside the desktop version. Probably keeps it “easy” that they have the full app ported over so they can update it the same
Well presented and interesting.
Thank You Michael for this Year Review about DaVinci Resolve on the iPad. Also thanks for showing the workflow with the Apple Cloud (Desktop Sharing Files) and the Blackmagic Cloud Proxy workflow. I did not, yet use this. Awesome to see. How long does it take to download the Proxy Files for a 6K or 8K Timeline like your example on the iPad? (I know it also depends on the Internet connection.) But just curious… if you decide to work on a Project, how long do you have to wait before you can continue to work on the iPad? Also another Question i have: Some of the Open FX (Not third party plugins) straight from DaVinci who do not work on the iPad. What happens after you continue to work with them on the iPad and then bring the Project back to the Desktop, is the Effect still there and was just not active on the iPad or is the Effect gone after editing with the iPad? And i guess you also have the Studio Version for iPad or where does missing Effects the one from the Studio Version? Lot’s of questions… but they came into my head, while watching this video here 😊 Thanks for all you do! Love to be part of this DaVinci Community. Happy New Year 2024 to you and your Family. (Ps. How is the Podcast going? Would love to have an interview with you one day. Cheers) ❤
yup DaVinci for iPad is really awesome !!
Great explanation! What kind of ipad is suitable for davinci resolve? Ipad Pro or Ipad Air? and is it M1 or M2?
Nice & Thanks :)
Super curious about if you can plug your camera into the iPad and use the files off of the SD card in the camera directly in resolve?
I am not able to scroll my timeline from ctrl + mouse cursor in ipad pro like in desktop version. Hoping for some solution from your side
Do you think the iPad Pro is a must for editing on an iPad, or do you think the new M2 iPad Air is good enough? The biggest downsides of the Air is worse screen and no thunderbolt port.
Ive already got a 16" M1 Macbook Pro as my main editing machine, but i hate editing photos with a mice and keyboard. I think colour grading on the iPad would be fun, where i find it tedious on the Macbook
I've just got resolve 18.6 for iPad. Quick question, have they disabled the option to edit keyboard commands to show all pages?
Not sure if I’ve missed it but can you tell me how you convert audio timecode into LTC, I’ve checked out many videos but nobody is talking about it.
Do you know if you can upload overlays etc and work from an external drive with it?
I have an iPad air to cut short reels. I have massive problems with the Files app. I imported an existing project on the iPad, the files are on an external SSD (Samsung T7). After linking, the preview is also displayed in the timeline. As soon as I press play, the Files app crashes, the SSD is no longer readable and the iPad has to be restarted.
Have you ever had a similar problem?
I'm new to this mac os..😢
I'm suffering from importing my screen recorded file on davinci..
This is so sad and annoying both😔
*I like DaVinci Resolve on my iPadPRO (4th Gen. M1 Chip) 11 inch version. What I am disappointed about my purchase is the lack of full functionality if you don't use your iPadPRO with any kind of keyboard. It takes certain keyboard shortcuts to access and leverage specific functionality and tabs. If you're trying to edit with Resolve and a iPencil (2nd Gen) ONLY, then you are kinda screwed ! Also, I'm really disappointed at the lack of updates for the software. I have only had (1) One update since I purchased Davinci Resolve for iPadPRO. The software is parked @ version 18.6, yet the desktop version is @ 19.x now. Since I have a (PAID) version of this software, I expect more than I would from any free version of this editing application.*
But the real question is, do you use it on the iPad?
8:25 this is actually a good point. I was transfering my whole project with a lot of effects and nodes to the ipad and had absolutely no problems at all with compatibility. But then I wanted to export the file over the export page and the app always crashed and I couln't export it at all. Unfortunately that shows that the pages aren't really optimized.
Fantastic stuff, but what iPad are you using and which generation would be the best bang for buck for 1080p and 4k? Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Idk if you still need the answer but m1 ipads are still the best b4b
@@Lia-gd2gd nice, I've gone with a reasonable cheap android. Won't be using resolve though. Cheers
How change language on ipad ?!
I wish mouse support was better. I can't do the simplest things with a mouse.
Even though the other pages aren’t fully supported black magic could do us a favour and add the pages to the bottom along with the cut and colour pages, then I wouldn’t have to lug around and old key board or spend $400 on an iPad keyboard.
Bluetooth keyboard app on your phone
@@Studio_234 yeah been there done that. Just make them available so we don’t have to frig around with this type of thing. We know the pages are there, just put all the icon at the bottom same as the pc/Mac versions
Anyone can help me with DNG RAW support for iPad Resolve?
Did see you have exactly 80.000 subscribers now - maybe I got it to be number 80.001
Hello!
I‘m planing to buy an iPad and want to edit 4K ProRes Videos on it. Do you think the 256 GB Version of the newest iPad Pro is enough or should I get the 512 GB Version? I‘m using a external 1TB-SSD too, heard it‘s possible to work with this instead of the iPad Storage?
edit off a hard drive. use proxies
Pretty useless for me without being able to use plugins
Da Vinci resolve in my ipad is getting crashed continuously while using it for editing can anyone suggest something what to do please
It happened to me, as well. I re-installed it and worked fine.
Not sure if it’s already covered, but what is a LUT folder? I’m new to editing and only started picking this up because I make music, so if anyone that’s reading this knows some plugins/effects I should check out lmk
in the most basic terms, a LUT (look up table) is a sort of "color filter".
Does someone knows if it’s possible to use Black Magic Monitor app to use a IPhone as a second screen to DaVinci resolve on ipad? My IPad Pro is the 11” so the preview on vertical videos became to small
I don’t think so. I tried a few different ways and couldn’t find it even to assign a keyboard shortcut to it isn’t possible.
Hi Michael what do you think about the new iPad Pro 14 M4 togheter DaVinci Resolve For iPad and maybe also with Version 19?
Just posted a video about that! 🙌🏼
@@initialfocus Have you the link because I can't find it?
I gave up on DV when the page shortcuts disappeared? I assumed Blackmagic removed them in an update!
You have to re open them every time you close the app
Why they wouldn’t make the edit page natively instead of the cut page is weird. Trying to edit on the cut page is horrible
Fr
the cut page will become your best friend... dig in
My speed editor continues to disconnect and it won’t work cable connected 🤷🏽♂️
"forget device" and try again. hold down the "cut".."smooth cut".. "source" and "timeline" buttons all at the same time

Im a wedding videographer and editor too considering updating to an ipad for editing. I can't tell which ram and memory is enough to do this exact thing. Can you get away with the base model M2pro?
I’m on an M1 iPad Pro, and yeah they’re great for video editing as long as you have enough open storage on your SSD for the unified memory to allow the ram to spill over. You’ll notice a little bit of lag when this happens but nothing significantly notable.
@@heyjakers I ended up getting the M2 Pro 1TB with 16gb Ram for a good price used. I think I overkilled with this choice. Editing everything I throw at it so far. This is also my first ever IPad and I don’t think I want a laptop ever again.
I’m entirely M2 iPad Pro 8Gb 512. Bought an M1 MacBook Pro and gave it to my nephew for school about 4 months in. Can’t go back to MacOS after my 3 years on iPad Pro between 4th generation A10z 8Gb 256 to M2 8Gb 512. There is literally no reason for me to return to a laptop or desktop computer. And it’s only getting better. ❤
I'm living a nightmare here, just bought the new iPad Pro m4 on May 15th (two days ago) to have my second editing device that is portable. I installed Davinci and it’s not working crashes every 20 seconds, it’s been a nightmare.
Resolve for iPad has had that bug before. Did you try deleting the app and re downloading? For some reason that’s worked for most people who encountered that bug
how was it after trying michael's solution ?
Need a book i cant use it.
Is that an Ipad with 8gb or 16gb of ram. I have an M2 with 8gb ram. Can the Resolve app work smoothly with the M2 8gb version?
Should run fine on that but mine is the 16GB RAM model
I have M2 8Gb. Mine works amazingly well. I upgraded from the 4th gen A10z this Christmas. DV worked pretty well on my 4th as well, with the exception of minor limitations on that one. But now it’s golden on the new one. I have yet to encounter any issues. :)
Thanks for the feedback!
Is resolve also for android tablets?
No
My major problem with the daVinci resolve app for the iPad is the fact that I’ve never been able to use the fusion page, because it’s always crashing. Even with the last iPad Pro
I feel the same way. But, for a free app though, I can’t really complain. 😅
@@mrheng562 I actually bought the pro version
@@mrheng562you are also not meant to be able to use the fusion page so it’s not strange that it crashes
@@mrheng562 many people have the paid version for ipad . feels like abandon ware to me so much opportunity lost. program needs to reworked to take advantage of ipad and touchscreens.seems like its basically in the exact same state as when it was released.i went ahead and purchased it believing BMD would show it love and get to work on fixing it up but 1 year later its only use for me is seeing the project i am working on displayed how it will appear in hdr on apple devices.
Full Studio version working perfectly now with newest release ✅
What size iPad are you using?
12.9”
@@initialfocus Thanks, do you recommend that size of after using do you think you can get by with the 11" ?
u using free only or do u pay for the app?
Its free
why not do the cloud sharing with a Nas or with the BM cloud
I am using BM cloud?
I don’t see the link to see how to do the shortcut to gain access to the other pages
open the shortcut pages and map the commands to a keyboard
CZcams dosent have cards anymore lol
The scroll in 4:38 was too laggy, try to do it smooth with some effect, looks like a screen recording, that was an instant nono for me just when you were trying to sell a course on video editing. Keep gooing 💪
