- Revan was a conqueror, savior, hero, villain... but sadly, The TRAGIC Fate of Revan's son didn't allow him to be any of those things. So what exactly happened to child of Bastila Shan and Revan?

So... I had to take liberties in this video visually because there's literally not a SINGLE piece of imagery for Vaner anywhere.
Maybe some new 100% fan-made art is in order: 'wink2'
There is, actually. There is a picture of Revan watching a holo of Bastila and Vaner in her arms. You just need to know what to look for. Actually, I found it just by googling Vaner Shan. Wookieepedia has the image themselves.

I have said it before and I will say it again Revan fled before his son was birthed so he doesn’t need to pay child support and Vitiate is his bro. He was such a bro he led Revan stay in his house for 300 years
Man vitiate such a bro I wish I had a friend like vitiate

God damn son, I think you've cracked KOTOR.
It be like that sometimes
Tf are you on about.
I like how the Shan bloodline is essentially summed up by this:
Shans: Jedi should be allowed to love
Jedi: No
Shans: F*ck you, im doing it
Jedi: Ok
at least till Sateel luckily she had kids before she swore them off.

I read the title and got scared for a second, Vaner sounds like a sweet guy who doesn't deserve war, glad what little we know about him is wholesome :)
Wholesome indeed!
What does it say about Star Wars when the only character with a happy ending is someone whose father left to planet to get a milk, I mean a mask and never came back?🤔
@@revan0890 Well technically, Revan left to stop Vitiate from draining every life-form in the galaxy, but I get what you mean
I doubt Vaner had a whole lot of pride of himself due to who his parents were and his none Jedi-ness.
@@bignuts8079 Yeah most as seen in such situations of star wars feels as though they are at fault. One can only imagine the self disappointment he had.
Having read the epilogue of the 'Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan novel', which seems to be the source of information about Vaner, my reading is not that he wasn't force-sensitive, but that he chose not to develop his powers and opted to pursue politics instead. The way Vaner talks about the Jedi Order makes it seem like, even though he may not have been a self-evident prodigy in the Force like Bastila and Revan were, he considered joining the Order a legitimate choice which he did not pursue in favor of entering politics to make a difference for the Republic, which explains why Vaner feels regret about not choosing the life of a Jedi; Bastila reassures him, saying he would not have been able to marry his wife Emess if he had joined the Order. Vaner does joke that maybe the Force "skips a generation" when talking about how his young children have already demonstrated affinity for the Force, but Vaner is being self-deprecating, which makes sense since he's talking to Bastila about how she can feel things in the Force (like Revan's survival) that Vaner cannot (which makes sense as he is not a trained Jedi, and unlike his mother he doesn't share a Force bond with Revan).
honestly i feel people who are force sensitive should try training in their power of the force if they decide not to join the jedi or sith or leave the order its a part of you.
@@matthewchristian9591 they don’t have to
@@larniieplayz6285 too bad Leia did enough of it to where she stopped
Vaner was not force-sensitive at all, hence the "maybe the force skips a generation" line. Both his children were, though.
I would be upset with the Jedi Order too. You spend years fighting to end a war, and when you finally come home all that your superiors and peers have to say is "Okay but you're not single anymore so we don't care about any of that. You should get a divorce and then we can talk."
**** the Jedi.
@@100StarWars Aren't they interchangeable
this is why i loved lukes jedi order he understood love and family is something to cherish and fight for not fear or believe it would lead too you falling to the darkside.
Why hello there Vaner Shan. Good to know about you.
Revan’s son kind of seems to have a pretty good life actually
Yeah the video wrapped up and I was like.... doesn't sound so tragic to me 😂
Which I'm happy with.
He didn’t need the force to make a difference or be corrupted by it. That’s for another Jedi. Or in this case sith
Yess there's so little about Vaner it's good you're making the content! I like to think that he did indeed become Chancellor and help the galaxy like his parents before him. I also like to think of him looking just like his father.
I'd like to think he became chancellor too!
Fun theory: I'm convinced it was the will of the force that Vaner was not a force sensitive. Had he been, he would have been indoctrinated by the jedi. Instead he was exactly where he needed to be: In the senate, pushing forward efforts to rebuild the republic.
PS: Vaner's children are confirmed force sensitives in the Revan novel.
They were? I don't remember that. I don't think he would've been indoctrinated, especially given this was a new kind of Jedi Order.
@@100StarWars Maybe so, although 300 years later and the Jedi still have many of the problems of the previous order. Maybe it's a light side thing. xD Regardless, Vaner probably made the most difference in the Senate, compared to what he'd been able to do in the Jedi Order.
About the book, I'll send you a picture via Discord. =P

You should link it here so we all can see it. It sounds interesting.
@@grisom5863 Meh too lazy now. xD But it's just a small line in the epilogue of the Revan novel where Bastila tells Vaner she already senses force sensitivity in his children.
The dark side and emperor were less frightening to Revan than child support.
It's funny how Disney says the Star Wars fandom dislikes "strong female leads" but most of the characters discussed in this video are true strong female leads and I'm pretty sure most fans loved them.
Disney is just salty that most of the Star Wars content they have Lucasfilm put out cannot reach the legendary status of everything that came before they acquired Lucasfilm.
Disney is just salty that most of the Star Wars content they have Lucasfilm put out cannot reach the legendary status of everything that came before they acquired Lucasfilm.
And “canon” Star Wars only has like 6 female characters that are actually important throughout all of the movies and series that were made, compared to legends which has hundreds of really cool female characters
The Shaun family definitely left an impression on the SW universe in many different ways
i wish we knew a bit more of revan’s bloodline, great video!
Revan bloodline is basically Shan family bloodline.
Take Satele Shan for instance, she was master of the order and one of the most powerful jedi of her time.

Why was this titled with Tragic.
Yes, it’s absolutely sad that Revan vanished. (Captured by Sith)
But his and Bastilas son seemed to have a very good life and was quite successful.
Sounds like he had a happy life.
Doesn’t sound tragic to me.
Sad, regarding that Revan wasn’t a part of it.
But it still sounds like Varner had a happy good life.

In my opinion the story makes more sense with the Canon choices of a male Revan romancing Sharn.
@@mlmii1933 To you maybe not for everybody!
@@anticorruptionagenda5106
Of course it's my opinion, just as yours is. 🤦♀️
However, if you are going to use the characters again (hopefully vague) canon details are necessary, and while playing KOTOR(2) I find it interesting that even if you define Revan as female the game tends to refer to Revan as male by default, but the reasoning I think the Canon gender makes sense is that the force bond with Sharn as well as her redemption arc flows better as a romantic relationship.
One of the things i love about star wars is the most obscure characters and pieces lore i just love it along side the mystery and the unknown. Like did the shan family survive into modern days maybe one of their descendants was jedi after krayt or if they did survive would the power that revan bastila and satele had ignite in one of them? Unfortunately we'll never since Disney bought star wars but its still interesting to think about who cares if it legends star wars is star wars and i should be able to enjoy the it to its fullest extent whether its some obscure legends like revans son or some well known canon character like ahsoka.
If read that whole thing have a nice day and even if u didn't i hope u still have a nice day
I hope you have a nice day too!
the ending of the revan novel absolutely broke me. spoke to me on so many levels.
It kinda blows my mind that the lore people who wrote all this were like “yeah, no, Revan gets off scot-free for all the horrible things he did as Darth Revan including traitorously making war on the republic.”
Hahahahah
That’s fine
They probably figured that Revan being a republic hero by killing Malak, destroying the Star Forge, and stopping the Sith and winning the war for the republic was all the atonement and redemption Revan needed.
@@novelgiani and that the present revan wasn't the same one as darth revan and never be held accountable for his past self's actions
It kinda wasn't his fault he was brainwashed by the sith then mind wiped by the Jedi
Another truly amazing and astounding video my friend. I knew very little about Revan's son Vaner and was shocked and surprised that he wasn't force sensitive like his legendary father. Both Anakin Skywalker and Padme's children Luke and Leia were force sensitive because of their father and Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren. This was very informative and as always your videos expand my limited knowledge of the Star Wars universe.
My friend are you planning to do anymore reviews for the Bad Batch series or wait until the end of season?
It makes you wonder how things would be different if Luke and Leia weren't force sensitive?
I'm sorry, but what on earth is so TRAGIC about this guys story?? Seems like he lives a happy and fulfilling life, even tho he didnt meet his dad...

Very cool video!
I feel like nobody knows abour vaner shan unless they read the fantastic revan book

I wish your page got the recognition it deserves. Keep at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Mahfuz!
Chances are he did become supreme chancellor, who knows by the time of the modern galaxy in Star Wars, the Shan lineage is still alive,...who knows if another heir of past legends will show up
I’m still curious what exactly the Old Republic timeframe is like in the new Canon. We know the Mandolorians history has changed a bit, making their wars with the Jedi more numerous, but outside of that and a few name references, we’ve gotten almost nothing from that era
Bastila: I don’t know if you’ll ever see this, but I have to believe that you will, and that you will return someday. And when you do, I think you’d want to see how fast your son was growing up. Say hello to your father.
Vaner: Hello, father.
Bastila: I know we did not discuss names before you left, but I have decided to call him Vaner Shan. This is a name I came up by using an anagram of your name, Revan. I want him to know who his father is, and I want him to understand that you are a part of him, no matter how far away you may be.
Vaner: Mother talks about you a lot. When are you coming home?
Bastila: Say goodbye to your father.
Vaner: Goodbye father.
Bastila: I love you.
Revan: I love you too, Bastila. I’m sorry. I wish I could tell you this in person and make you understand, but I’m not coming back. Not until the Sith Emperor has been defeated once and for all. Nothing could make me change my mind. I do not know how long it will take. I may never return to you, but the Sith Emperor must be stopped. I cannot rest until he is dealt with.
I feel bad for Bastila because she doesn’t deserve any of this shit especially with her son
Mothers in Star Wars tend not to have positive outcomes.
@@100StarWars yeah that's true but so do fathers they don't get a positive outcome either heck look at Revan he lost basically everything even in swtor he got his mind split in half into beings one light and one dark thanks to the sith emperor, another example i can think of is valyin from the old republic mmo game because man oh man she suffered a lot in that story she lost her two sons lost her daughter to the sith emperor but then gain back her son arcann so that's one positive yay but man oh man she suffered a lot.

You know, it's an incredibly sad occurrence that Revan was unable to be their for his wife and child, it would've been a happy an peaceful life for all of them; something both Revan and Bastilla deserved.
More than that though, can you imagine the dad jokes we would've gotten from Revan? Truly a shame the comedic material that was lost!😔
I think you should make a video of Kreia "affer" Kotor 2. Perhaps a Swtor cameo she did??? 🤔
I wish they explored revan story but they didn't care much for it sadly:(..
He was my favorite character in game
For me it looks like the Shans (we don't know revans name nor his family name) just become strom in the force when the galaxy is in great need but this is just my theory.
Now I know their is NO WAY to PROVE This Theory, but I think the Skywalkers are a Descendant of Revan. Revan and Bastila's Descendants where known to be Force Sensitive, and the Jedi would keep a close eye on them. After a couple of hundreds of years of No Force Sensitive People the Jedi losses track of them. Anakin appears and with the technology they check out who is he related to and they discovered Revan.
i want to learn more about Setelle Shan, the greatest Jedi EVER!
Well, maybe Revan never said his real name to Bastila, so she couldn't put Revan Jr.
Maybe Revan didn’t even remember what his original name was. That knowledge could have been destroyed when Malak’s ship blasted Revan’s and gave him severe brain damage.

I would argue that the force flowed thru Vaner even more so than his parents. In that universe, the force is an all powerful guide to all of life. Therefore the force would know that immediately following the turmoil revan was a part of, the most powerful unifier would be someone who was not force sensitive but could still command the respect of galaxies of people.
So the Shans are big fans of anagrams huh? Revan - Vaner, Tasele - Satele
They love them xD
THE ONLY TRAGEDY I SEE IS REVAN GOING TO... “GET MILK”...
LOL
I think it would've been cool to see Revan appear in TCW, and I think he would've been in the Mortis arc as a force ghost but was pulled from the episode.
Honestly, I wish it was in because he was basically the First Chosen One. He would be the unknown chosen one.
@@cipherxi8513 Knowing how torn the character was between the LS and DS, it's not surprising that Revan wasn't as known about.
It wouldn't make sense though given that Revan was 'redeemed' and no longer Sith.
Also the main reason why he didn’t appear was the fact that he was gonna be a “dark side force ghost” along with bane which would’ve destroyed force ghost lore due to said in the rots novelization that a being can only become a force ghost through being selfless which is the complete opposite of dark side users
@@amel.923 Yeah exactly. DS users couldn't necessarily become ghosts, but they still learned similar techniques. Where Jedi embrace death, the Sith wanted to find immortality.
If these two are connected through the force, a form of emotional or other form of connection will always be present causing some form of fall of one where to die.
I like to think Vaner was Chancellor because he's a smooth talker like his father and independent like his father and mother. It would make sense as greatness seems to be a pattern in the Shan family with Bastila and Revan destroying Malak, Vaner achieving a high rank in the political world, his children probably doing something interesting (that is speculation), Satele being the first (or one of the first) to be Force Sensitive, Theron having destroyed the Ascendant Spear and killed a Dark Councilor (twice), and I am going to throw in Jace Malcom for... reasons as he nearly killed Darth Malgus and helped buy time for Theron and Gnost-Dural to destroy the Ascendant Spear.
I like to think he was chancellor too!
I was always hoping for a little reference in the sequels, maybe Poe calling out "Sgt Shan, lock this area down!"
Just that confirmation that yes, the Revan and Bastila line survived that long, and thought they no longer may have been at the forefront of galactic history, they were still out there, apart of the galaxy we know and love.
I wouldn't call this so much a "tragic" story but rather an incomplete one. By the way in my head canon I'd like to think that Shmi Skywalker (and by extension Anakin) are descendants of Revan and Bastilla Shan. I know it sounds crazy but good writing could connect their bloodlines.
But that means that they ended up falling so far from being galactic leaders to becoming worthless slaves
Would you do a what if Vaner was force sensitive?
I don't think much would happen given that period of time is relatively quiet.

There's a glaring issue, and it's not your retelling ... If the order was essentially re-made, why is love again an issue, or looked down upon in this new Jedi Order? You did say her role was minor, but that doesn't mean that they would disregard her input entirely. Especially with Surik's teachings that took some inspiration from Kriea. I would've expected them to take a similar approach to Jolee when all things are said and done.
I know this was meant to lead into SWTOR, but it just hurts that after everything it looks like someone essentially hit the reset button. TwT
this always gets me mixed up. I thought bastilla had satele, who mothered theran. am i missing something ?

Ya
A lot….bastila didn’t have that Shan. She had her son, her son had children and eventually it was satele. Satele is 300 years after this. So she’s like the great great great granddaughter of bastila and revan. Revan was only still alive as a husk by that point in the old republic MMO story, his light side was dead as a force ghost, his dark side stayed in their body and basically possessed it with the power of the force. Otherwise he would have died long ago in the timeline same as bastila
I thought Bao Dur died in Kotor II
