So hyped for these reprints. I just got into collecting in this format and have absolutely fallen in love with it. Praying for a vol 4 reprint and a Fatal Attractions Omnibus!!
I was lucky to get fatal attractions last year for a decent price. It might be my favorite X-men omni. It’s close to that one and Age of Apocalypse.
Can't wait for Omars Ultimate Spider-man omni reprint.

I had to go with the Gil Kane cover, not just because I have the matching older artwork for the first two volumes, but because I really like Morbius.

I’m just waiting for the day you announce the vol 4 reprint. I would love Marvel to keep releasing the omnibus’ in chronological order. The completest in me has put me off getting the creative team omnibus as issues can be missed out if that team didn’t work that certain book.
I ended up getting the DM cover. This one catches me up on the Amazing Spider-Man omnibi. The only thing is my volumes 1-2 & 4 have the big writing on the spine while volumes 3 & 5 have the small lettering. Oh well, at least I’m caught up. Great video as always Omar.
Probably the first use of drugs in comics for the Silver Age but before the code, there were quite a few "Murder, Morphine and Me" by Jack Cole is one of the more extreme perhaps. I assume some of the hippy 60s comics probably mentioned drugs a bit as well
Good old Gog, Nick Spencer must have picked up his like of him here 😊 Must buy for sure, only have volume 1 and have been waiting for the Spidey’s to come back in print.
This was the only Silver Age Spider-Man omnibus I owned and I sold it immediately when they announced the reprint because I knew I'd be stuck with mismatched spines otherwise, haha. Honestly, not sure if I'll end up picking them back up again, though!
I've got this pre-ordered! Now just need v4 reprinted! And then hope for v6 sometime next year! :)
i prefer the original spines the larger print stands out more on the shelf when there all lined up next to each other

DC later did a major drug story in Green Lantern / Green Arrow where the drugs issue was featured prominently in the stories and even the covers. I think the Spider Man stories caused a rethink in the Comics Code and a view that the issue could be handled positively. The GL/GA comic even had an endorsement from the Mayor of New York. As Omar points out in the video- the comics code was loosened to allow elements of horror which led to the Marvel horror titles of the 1970s.

This Omni contains the first major confrontation between a publisher and the CCA. The Green Lantern/Green Arrow books came later. I wrote this for "The History of Illustration" textbook. “In 1971, the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare asked Marvel Comics to produce a comic book about the dangers of drug use. Editor-in-Chief Stan Lee agreed, but because Amazing Spider-Man #96-98 (1971) contained a character addicted to drugs, the CCA denied their seal of approval. In the first confrontation between a major comic book publisher and the CCA since its inception, Marvel ran the story. The positive publicity led the CCA to change the Comics Code to allow negative portrayals of drug addiction, which eventually led to the repeal of some constraints.” [Brian M. I never liked the cover for the general release version of this omnibus until I got it in hand. It actually looks pretty cool. Much better than it does on screen. I’m about halfway thru vol. 2, I’m reading these issues pretty slowly, but he got time to take my time. I’ve got vol.s 3, 4, and 5 waiting in the wings. I wasn’t actually going to pick up vol. 5 until I saw the direct market cover with Spidey standi this ground in the sewer way. Maybe one of my favorite omnibus covers ever and cause to purchase an expensive book, as we didn’t get any discounts during the lockdown (Boo). Now we just need Uncanny X-Men Omnibus vol. 5.
Got the Masterworks for the issues in this volume but ordered the omni anyway :(
Bit off topic: I wonder if Marvel will consider reprinting these Silver Age/early Bronze Age comic issues - as facsimiles (from mintest possible original copies) of the original comics, inclusive of all the commercials and letter pages, on matt paper. They could reprint each issue separately in batches of 15 issues per volume, housed in a hardcover box.
Spider-Man at his peak - Stan and Romita were really rockin at this point in their lives and careers.
I’ve had a DCBS pre order of this and FF vol 4 since March and I can’t wait for it to FINALLY ship after this got pushed out so far lol

DC did half page ads only a few years ago for Twix. I imagine in the collected edition they just slid the panels on the left hand page to the bottom of the right hand one. Interesting that in the Spidey page the octopus arms connect from one side to the other so they can't be reformatted.

19:00 Omar, of course I can't really tell from the video, but it looks to me that's more of a printing issue, instead of a scan issue. It looks like the black plate ran short on ink when this particular page was printed. It's a rare occurence with good quality printers, but it does happen sometimes. With scan problems, you're more likely to get line definition issues (or "resolution" issues, if you prefer) or the dreaded moiré effect.

Great overview Omar while I already have this I recently got the John Romita IDW artisan edition and issue 84 does have ads at the bottom of the page in the artisan edition the left page says insert stamp ad and the right says insert coin ad
I managed to find the first printing when it was difficult to come by.
There were Snickers ads in the bottom half of issues a few years back. They were the WORST.
There were those controversial Snickers ads that DC did a few years ago. They were the whole bottom half of the page! People did in fact freak out.

It’s too bad about the new spines. Would have loved to have something consistent, but this is now only possible for people grabbing all new prints, since they changed it already for the 1st print of Vol 5.
This here is my focus. Over the past 2 years I have been getting these thanks to the reprint of Vol 1.
I am waiting for this one to arrive to “complete” my collection. Then I honestly hope we get Omnibuses covering any remaining gaps, like a Vol 6 up to the Stern run, a volume connecting the Stern run to Micheline and who knows, maybe a Bagley run following the Larsen Omnibus.

The binding doesn't look nearly as nice as the older printing. I noticed you didn't compare the eye (or lack thereof) with the new printing vs the old printing. Is this a coincidence? I know Marvel sends you these books for free, but it seems odd that you didn't do that. I sincerely hope you aren't getting biased now. Showing the bottom of the books would be the best way to show how much less this spine curves vs the older printing. It almost feels like a DC binding.
Omar, do they print the books using offset or digital? I would think it would be offset due to the quantity.
Peter Parker eyes go from brown to blue and viceversa. They should be brown all the time. The originals also had that issue. Quite annoying. Remember read something about it somewhere.

My copy of death of captain stacey in epics has been dispatched today. Excited not having read this era before. Now own the entire era( first 7 epics) for me to read back to back.
Currently reading the infamous Roy Thomas x men run. Its pretty decent so far but boy Roy is sure wordy. Not quite as enjoyable as the Stan lee era.

Speaking of Spider-Man Blue, have you heard any plans to release that in a deluxe hardcover? I know it's in the Loeb & Sale White/Yellow/Blue/Gray Omnibus but I don't really want to buy that for one story.
when doing your comparisons, it would help to have even lighting. I can tell from the way shadows fall (and the diffusion across the desk) your main light source is coming from the right, yes? I hear "ring lights" can be good for getting an even spread (do your own research), It'll make the color capture more true to life. 👍
It’s impossible with the setting I have. Another light like the huge LED light I have on the right won’t fit. So I’m trying other ways. I’ve tried a ring light. Just didn’t make the cut. But I’m trying other ways.

The letter pages must be great time capsules
I used to always read the letters pages first in comics.
Tempting, but I can't commit unless I find a great bargain for it. I'be been blowing my budget lately, and Spider-Man has been a big part of that. Just in the past two months I picked up Omnibus 5, Clone Wars Omnibus 1 (a bit of a theme, there) and I also bought the Michelinie/MacFarlane Omnibus for the second time. (My first copy was given away to my nephews.) Soooooo, we'll see.
Organic priced books sell books with a great price I got all Spider-Man omnibus two three and five from them.

@@Attilude There's no Omnibus to fill those gaps. After Micheline & Larson, the closets is Spider-Man vs Venom, then Clone Saga 1 and 2, then Ben Reilly 1 and 2, then another hole where the John Byrne Omnibus kind of fits, then JMS vols 1 and 2.

Not blurry at all. the text was fine. It was just those lighter tones to the colors.

Why would you change the font on the spine? I imagine people who have volumes 1,2 and 4 in the old style font will not by this as will look odd in the shelf.
They are changing the logo basically to make more sales. I will have to get rid of the ones I already have to have the matching ones. I wouldn't even say thats OCD. All my books whether they are omnibus, marvel hardbacks or just run of the mill paperbacks, they all have to be from the same print run and design.
I have said this before Marvel doesn't care about the fans, they are just there to make the money off you.
Marvel also know that a lot of people who have the previous editions of these Omnibuses with the large font text on the spine will also restart their collection again so it has a matching trade dress aesthetic. That's the logic of capitalism; profit at the cost of human well-being and the planet.
@@James-os9ku This is why I have said repeatedly the length of time it's taking to get these omnibuses out is way to long. If you are going to start a series of something you don't change the design and your not half way through the collection. What would be the reason they did that? The font was costing to much? Did the printer or who ever just forget? No I don't think so! Money!
I said before rather than release something that hasn't been released in years they will release what will sell. They're not bothered about completion or sorting out what people maay have missed out on they will releaase the same omnibus 5 times. That's the real reason why they are releaseing vol.1 again, not for the people who have missed (as theres loads floating about on ebay), it's because they can get money from people who already have it.
People will buy 1,3,5 and then 4 and 2 will be released in this font style but they will release 6 or 7 in another different font. I bet you!
For me if a company is doing that they are struggling somewhere

It's very possible that once Volumes 1-5 in the new printings are fully released with the new matching trade dress they will then restart a different spine design from Volume 6, 7 onwards etc. So basically there's a good chance we'll never have a complete matching ASM omnibus set- only partially complete matching sets. They know exactly what they're doing.
@@James-os9ku That's why I won't be renewing my already aquired ones because if you do then you will have to replace 7 of them when they change it at volume 8 or something like that. I don't believe they wont do that again. It'sd just really dissapointing. I don't mind having the old flat spine everynow and then but a font is to much. I wont be getting the sensaational ones until they are all released and reprinted.
@@adamlw7181 yep totally agree. And they'll get away with it because between each successive amount of time between the change of font/design they'll be catering to a brand new generation of readers who'll just be coming into the hobby for the first time. So to those people the original printings don't mean anything but we are left with the mess. It basically goes through a generational recycling to meet the demand of the new collectors with no regard for the old collectors like us. Just look at how many different recycling's there's been with individual comic issues i.e reprints,reboots, facsimiles , 2nd prints,3rd prints,4th,5th ,6th ,7th,8th prints etc. It just goes on and on and on. It's just that we are now seeing it for the first time with the Omnibus format so it seems new. Eventually at some point in the future you will be able to acquire a complete ASM Omnibus set with matching trade dress aesthetic but that's probably a decade away at least. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope they continue with the new format for Volumes 6 and 7 but I'm not overly confident to be honest. I guess we'll see.
Ok so I have a big question I’m about to spend alot of money on the Deadpool and x-force omnibus’s can you give me a little hint lol if I should wait (I.e. if they are planning on re-releasing)
How would it be to read only Amazing Spider-Man till the end without all the other spidey titles like PPSSM, WoS, PPSM, SpSM, SeSM,...? Aside maybe events. Is it necessary to know what happens in the other titles? I think I stopped reading ASM shortly after PPSM started and I never got back sadly.
The Byrne volume and the Stern one is so hard to find here in Europe :/
How do these silver age Spider-man stories stand up? Do they seem really dated and slow? I have never read any of these stories but love Kraven's last hunt.
So many key issues in this Omni. First Black Widow in her classic black costume. First Morbius. Death of *******. The drug issue. I actually love Gil Kane's art more than John Romita's art. More dynamic.

I wish that were true. Ollie's are so hit and miss and I go every week since I saw Omar's video two years ago. All I ever find are trades that were liquidated two years ago. I see pictures of people finding omnis like Omar did and I think that's a personal attack towards me. lol

Does this mean ultimate spider man omnibus vol 1 is delayed? I see that this one got pushed back to the release date that ultimate was originally suppose to come out on.

That’s absolutely the most hideous cover i’ve ever seen, and doesn’t fit the content at all! Thankfully there’s the stunning Gil Kane DM version on this otherwise fine book. It’s a damn shame that this is available everywhere and not the DM variant

Why do they have 2 different covers for the Omni's!? Most of the art is terrible and you would think most people would want something classic. This cover in particular is awful! Spidey looks like he's 12 years old
