I always say, "You'll Dimate if you don't Trimate!".
good words to live by!
+Caddy Dad THAT is amazing!
+Caddy Dad
Especially in Phantasy Star II
+HappyConsoleGamer never played any of these games but thanks to you it's a favourite of mine .
+Caddy Dad LOL XD
yess!
Just absolutely love your passion John, I really hope you never change. Your love, light, and integrity is just plain infectious. One of my first CZcams subs, and I've never regretted it for a second...
I agree about Phantasy Star 3. If ever there was a need for remake, this would be the game.
Man, my games explode all the time, too. Pain in the ass.
In fact, that´s the brazilian version of Phantasy Star (in portuguese).
I finished PS IV today again after more than 10 years withouth playing it, man, i cant describe how i love the classic series, and 4 is one of the best games ever made.
I wish that Phantasy Star V would be made.
[Coury] And I thought my collection was big! I passed up a complete JPN Mark 3 copy at MAGFest because it was 80 bucks... But now kinda regret it.
The special effects budget on this episode must have been massive.
I came across your videos by accident and im totally addicted, instant subscription mate keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Those fucking explosions after 7mins in scared the shit out of me, great video and collection.
I still remember watching your very first episode (about phantasy star). Your format really has changed over the years, but it seems to be returning to those early roots.
we have the same addiction for phantasy star and dragon quest. let's hang out
Don't forget to mention the "keytroller" behind you on your dedicated Phantasy Star Online video. Servers are still active, btw. Well, private servers, but it's still awesome. Mostly, PSO v2 for DC/PC, PSO Episode I & II, and PSO: BB are the active versions.
Always love it when you post a Phantasy Star video Johnny! Your enthusiasm is infectious.
Casually watching through some of your older content while I game, and that explosion effect made me JUMP! Scared the life out of me 😂
ahhh man.
This makes me happy.
God I love the PS RPGS and the early PSO games.
I LOVE PSZero too.
Who else was scared to see the fire?
+Raymond Lillington I had my headphones up and it made me jump lol
*thats a thing of beauty*
ZOMG MY FAVORITE!! Your Collection is so amazing. Such a great franchise
phantasy star really seem to make you happy. I started to play ps1 today, maybe I get the hype later
Hey chief! Greetings from the future! Lookin for an update. I hope you enjoyed what you played.
The 3D dungeons in the first one kind of blew my mind. I knew it was all sprites and not true 3D but the turning was soooo smooth in the corners.
Sadly, I don't think Sega could afford the budget to make a proper contemporary Phantasy Star game again, single player or online. They just cant take the risk :(
So for me, Phantasy Star Online came out while I was a junior in high school. I had played previously 1, 2, 3, and 4 and actually bought the Dreamcast specifically for PSO. On top of that, I was so intrigued by the way it valued names to determine IDs that I actually learned how to use C++ and wrote an array that would take any name I input and tell me what the output ID would be in the game.
Awesome video dude, you're definitely one of the best gaming youtubers
I could never just pick 2 games and say everything else can go. You have one hell of an emotional attachment my friend.
+KWKBOX Jet Moto for PSX and Secret of Mana for SNES are mine. Those are the two games that I have the strongest emotional reaction to, after playing them with my brother for hundreds of hours.
That Portuguese version of Phantasy Star is the Brazilian one. Tectoy was the official distributor, and the manufacturer of the Mega Drive in Brazil.
PSO had a huge impact on me when it hit the Dreamcast ,I was 19 at the time , 36 now, I still have friends from the game that I still speak too to this day !
I think they were always way ahead of their time . I too like so many did not enjoy the card battle game very much but again , They were so far ahead of the game . I think if the card battle game were to be released now , Today , Then it would be a huge hit in my personal opinion .
I have recently aquired PSO2 for my pc after many years of missing the game and the memories .. I had 11 characters on the DC ! lol
Not sure if it's just me but i have been humming / whistling the jungle theme for the past 15+ years lol
Great channel btw . Thanks for making the Phantasy Star videos . I have only just found your channel . Glad I did !
Hey johnny. Just wanted to thank you for all your videos! You have a great passion and I love watching all your videos!
Pretty nice collection! Keep going with the nice videos, I am huge fan.
When you edited in that explosion, I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. lol.
"Im not a collecter" While surrounded by hundreds of video games haha ;) Keep telling your self that Johnny XD
Impressive collection, Phantasy Star 1 was the very first roll playing game I ever played way back in 1988 and I paid $90 for it! I only ever play 1, 2, 3, and 4. Never any of the other ones.
Jeez, that explosion scared the hell out of me!
Phantasy Star 4 is still my all time favorite of that series.
That's...a big Phantasy Star collection. O.o
Loved the Phantasy Star series proper. But I cannot get interested in any of the Online games. They just don't feel like Phantasy Star and there's nothing there that's even remotely interesting. I played through the first one online and it felt like such an empty, vacant experience. It probably doesn't help that I abhor playing games online. I feel that everything after Phantasy Star 4 should be called something else and not Phantasy Star.
i miss u guys
+Game Sack Phantasy Star Online I and II did have an amazing soundtrack, though :)
+Game Sack It's so weird that they leaned so hard into Phantasy Star Online. I know the first one did pretty well, but did anything else PSO? I feel like it was never quite the *thing* that proper Phantasy Star was
[Coury] I agree for the most part but ended up loving PSO quite a bit, logging over 250 hours to get to level 100. It was the only time I really got into an online game of that size. It helped that I had a pretty good core of people I played with from the GF_Tavern IRC chat room.
I own a couple of the post PSO games but haven't spent much time with them beyond booting them up to watch the intro.
Ponaru I couldn't hang with suikoden when it went 3d. Maybe I should go back. It just didn't seem to have the charm of the first ones.
I just love Phantasy Star so much.
The SMS version was my first RPG, and I remember how puzzled I was at first.
The Dungeons, the towns, the awesome music. It just blew my mind, totally changed how I looked at games.
Pages upon pages of graph paper with dungeon maps, and I don't know how long it took me to finish this game the first time.
Especially tricky considering it was my first RPG, English not being my first language, and me being maybe 10 or 11, playing with a dicitionary next to me. Awesome times.
My entire collection could burn to the ground, but I'd save Phantasy Star. This is why you're my hero, Johnny. I remember Phantasy Star kicking off my love of video games. I was one of the few in the neighborhood with a SMS in 1988. All my friends were early NES fanboys. I didn't know anything about Phantasy Star until I saw it in a store and fell in love with the artwork and the breakdown on the back. I was 13 and begged my mom for it. Well, $80 USD wasn't easy for my parents to part with, but a month or so later, she took me to the store to get it. I have lots of great memories that I fondly think back of on my childhood and playing this game covers many of them. Thank you for your all of your videos, especially any relating to this tremendously glorious series! I would so love a remake of #1 or a single player follow up to the series!
Great video - The Master System Phantasy Star is the game that made me like RPG games the best over any other genre. Later another series came out that rivaled The Phantasy Star series as my favorite series and the was the Lunar Star series.
That explosion scared the shit out of me! O_O
Super looking forward to an eventual video on PSO btw.
Time to start really harassing Sega for Phantasy Star Online 2.
It worked
Changed my life too man!
Phantasy Star 4 is amazing. Even though I was a Genesis kid I didn't play it until a few years ago and damn I'm glad I went back and played it
6:59 Shit, that took me by surprise 😆
This would be a good drinking game! Every time Johnny says, "Phantasy Star" you take a drink :)
damn this collection is amazing
It's like you just set up a table and started chatting with me. Great vid like always.
Great video, as usual. Is there a Phantasy Star holy grail missing from your collection?
Again for the 5th 6th time? Phantasy Star is why I subscribed to HCG. I have about 4 years on you Johnny and like you it was 1988 when I got into the 1st one. Took me til 1989 to beat. I have the original, PS II, PS III, and IV. I also bought PS Collection import for the Saturn. Never tried Online. I just want Sega to remake the originals and possibely continue the original story. Here's to hoping, great episode!
I had never even heard of this series until I got the Sega Mega Drive collection for the PSP. I didn't really get into 2 or 3 but I played 4 and thought it was really good. And then I was searching for Phantasy Star stuff on youtube a few years back and that's how I discovered the Happy Console Gamer.
You're amazing man. I only discovered you recently (Street Fighter video) but I enjoy every video so far!
Got phantasy star 2 at a Roses used. It's so odd that I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.
Hey Man!!! This is incredible!! I am brazilian and also have Phantasy Star in PORTUGUESE. How amazing is to see that you have a copy in PORTUGUESE? Very much!!! Thank you for sharing!!! See you next time!
After learning of the Gba game, i decided to give them a try on an emulator, let me say, Phantasy Star 1 is pretty hard so far. Definitely a grinding game, but thanks to save states, and my emulators turbo button it makes grinding go 10x faster. Maybe if i beat this, i'll develop a new love for the series and you did so many years ago. Thx for turning me on to the series.
that portuguese version is actually a Brazilian version by TECTOY. that cartridge is very rare even here in Brazil lately
Quite the collection. Meanwhile, that Lagoon box in the back is screaming at me.
I hold this game close to my heart as well! Great stories brother!:) Awesome collection!
Great collection! Been waiting on your PSO episode that you keep hinting at. Hopefully PSO2 will hit west some day and you can experience it. For your PSO episode maybe you can incorporate some PSO moments or thoughts into the video from your fellow subs/PSO fans? Hell, I can relate with you a lot on it so far. I spent many long hours and lost sleep over the addiction of it.
Damn it Johnny! You're killing it with these videos! My favorite gaming channel of all time.
Oh man I have like 20,000 hours on PSU, no joke. The play time capped at 9999 hours on each character and I had 2 characters with 9999 and 1 other with almost 1000. That game was my life for about 6 years, until the servers were shutdown. Before that I played PSOBB, still play it to this day on private servers. Such great games.
I just finished getting all the Genesis games not too long ago, picked up IV for a decent price from Gamedeals, some one butchered the cardboard box and stuffed it in a clamshell, but was still happy to get it to play through all of them on their original systems
Phantasy Star 1 in portuguese was the first JRPG I ever played and what a great introduction to the genre!
The problem is I was only able to finish it many years later, since this copy I first played was one I used to rent and it had a problem: The batttery was faulty and so the save would be erased every time the console was turned off!
I remember once keeping my SMS on for a whole weekend and trying to go as far as possible in the game.
And I found this video because I'm currently playing, for the first time, Phantasy Star II. Besides 1 I had only ever played IV before, which I consider the best Genesis RPG.
Lords of thunder at 2:12. AWESOME! :)
I'm a PSOBB player. I tried PSO 2, but PSOBB, on the server I'm playing... My team is my family and the server works like a small town. I really like this game !
I've had a really, really bad day today and seeing Johnny talking about his favorite game and how happy he is and proud he is to have this collection is making me happy.
I'm a Korean subber, and yes, the Phantasy Star version you're showing at 5:09 is indeed korean =)
I've been thinking about starting this series as it's on the Sega collection on the PS3/360 of which I've recently managed to borrow from someone I know. I knew it was on there but didn't realise the first game was hidden and could be unlocked. It therefore features all 4 original titles. I've definitely been influenced by your interest in the series over the years, it's just getting the time to do so with so much out there already.
I love your attitude, man!
To say I'm jealous of your Phantasy Star collection would be an understatement.
Huh, after all of this time, I figured you'd have Phantasy Star Nova. Haha.
Hey, you got the original Phantasy Star for the Mega Drive too! :D
Phantasy star owns my soul! phantasy star 1 was the first game that i played at my house . I rented it when i was 8 years old with the master system. i had never seen anything like it before. I remember that i couldnt figure out how to exit the first town=) but when i did, o man. Then i rented it again the week after, and i saw that it had a save file saved in the game. so i tried it and was on another planet with some vehicle you could ride in. it was awesome.
My first Phantasy Star was Phantasy Star III, so I am one of the few that appreciate that game more than most. I did grow to love Phantasy Star IV more once I got it, but those are my two favorites. I haven't owned as much as you have, I still have II, III and IV on the Genesis and Phantasy Star Collection on the GBA. Traded away Phantasy Star 0 and had rented Phantasy Star Universe, but neither of those could hold me like the older games, though I kind of want Universe again to give it another shot.
Awesome special effect LOL!
By far my favorite CZcams Channel of all.
I really really enjoyed this brother, I too am a huge Phantasy Star fan and have almost as many as you do. I have to find those books though lol great video my friend!
Amazing collection. I think it's time that SEGA gives us a brand new Phantasy Star main line game.
Super glad you did this video. Been waiting for you to show you PS collection for awhile. I wish they would just remake the original 4 games with todays technology.
Was there ever a boxed version of Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst? I found it on PC....two months before the servers were about to be shut down :(
Playing phantasy star online on GameCube and ps0 on DS was my intro to this series. Seems like a series that could use a new release.
Tylor there on the shelf stands out to me, one anime series surrounded by all the game stuff. XD
Phantasy Star IV was awesome, but the price at release was crazy. I saw it at Toys R Us and they wanted 95 bucks for the game. The carts size was the reason for the price, fortunately I got the Sega Channel later that month and was able to play it on there. One of the best RPG adventures I've ever played.
This reminds me of the collection video Lazy Game Reviews did for the Maxis games.
The first PS game I played was 2, and IV is my all time favourite. Also played lots of PSP2 and PSU around the same time. The feeling of collecting really does feel good!
I wish that we could one day find footage of Return of Alis for Sega CD, one of the holy grails of lost games.
I would love to see a 3D Classics port of the original Phantasy Star. I'm guessing that ship might have already sailed, though.
Great video, John!
Tried really, really hard to get into the main series but couldn't. However, Phantasy Star Online was the first game that hooked me into MMOs. I remember playing that game for far too many hours as well. Very special game for me. I heard there are still small servers out there, and I would love to get back into it.
Phantasy Star 3 is my favourite (of those I've played). I've finished it with all of the different.. combinations.. possible. Trying for no spoilers. Love it.
My fav too yet a lot don’t like it but that’s ok I still love it
That is a great collection and Im happy for you . I too am a huge old school Sega fan, and I remember reading about the very first Phantasy Star in a Sega magazine that used to get mailed to me. Might have been Sega Visions Magazine. Surprised you don't have those Johnny. Or do you? Anyway, we're a year apart , so we're nostalgic about similar things. Hey, at least I don't drive my wife too crazy...
That looks awesome all together.
Johnny u can never talk too much about Phantasy Star it was the game that totally changed gaming for me and what was possible to do in games.
Ground breaking game there are also a lot of other ground breaking games in other genres like The Sims, Silent Hill,Amnesia TDD and lots more.
Aw man that VR ship music really hits me hard. I really wish Pso 2 had a global release
Hey Johnny, I was just wondering what username that you went by in Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast, and what class did you play as? My character's name was Jet Fire (a short orange Humar with Spiky Hair). It's unlikely we crossed paths, but I did log a thousand or two hours into the game, so it could have been possible that we passed each other by. It was pretty much my whole life for about 2 years! By the time I was done with version 2, I was about LVL 148 with all top notch equipment (that game got so time consuming to LVL up in late into version 2). Really, PSO was my only real experience with the series, aside from occasionally watching a friend of mine play some PSIV on an emulator in high school. Glad to see some PSO love being shared with everyone here. In my opinion, it was really the social experience that made the game what it was.
Amazing collection. One of my favorite video game series ever. Especially PS1
Seems like Phantasy Star bombs with the 3's
Holy crap, where did you find that repro for the text adventures? I've wanted one for years!
Also, please, PLEASE give the games their own dedicated videos (especially PSII, PSIII, and PSIV). I would love to hear more about how those games impacted your life (assuming they did; i mean, they kinda did to me)
Looking up stuff for Phantasy Star Online 2 is how I came across your channel. Ive been subscribed sense but too bad PSO2 never came to America.
My local Best Buy still had Sonic's Ultimate Sega Collection (360) new for $20. On my budget, that's the only way I can play PS II, III and IV. PSO on DC was extremely addictive back in the day!
WOW ! What a huge collection ! And JOHNNY YOU SON OF A ........ You fucking scared the shit outta me at 16:48 !Lol
You're insanity for PHANTASY STAR parallels mine for METAL GEAR. Well done!
