Just had brand new tires installed yesterday. My old ones were pretty bad after 4 years of driving. I can tell a huge difference.
This was just what I was looking for. Explained things better than the other videos I watched. Thank you!
Also, you should not keep your tires more than 6 years or older. Check the manufacturing date stamped on the inside of the tire. It's the 4 digits inside an elongated circle or oval. The first 2 digits represent the # of the week out of 52 and the last 2 digits the year. So, don't buy tires that have been siting in the store for years. They start suffering from dry rot.
Thank you for contributing to the conversation!
The numbers are inside the tires instead of being outside?
What a very smart way to do things
oh god, this guy looks alike the guy in the half life video game, thanks for the video
Very concise, clear, and helpful, thank you!
This was by far the most educational video. Thank you
Car Guy, that was very helpful. A little information can go a long way in your safety and pocketbook.
Thanks for the very informative video, that's taught me the new thing. I never know how to read tires before. As the everyday driver that's my mistake.Good work...................
Wonderful video. Thank you from Bhutan!
Very informative video, thanks for sharing!
I've watched a few videos like this and this was the easiest to understand. Very informative. Thanks Mr car guy!
Awesome! So glad I could help you my friend!
Great vid thanks👍🏽
very useful, thank you for the knowledge
Thank you so much for this video. It was very informative. I want to get a tread card. I wasn’t aware they existed.

Brock,
Prior to watching your video, I had no idea on how to evaluate tire tread. Afterwards, I definitely feel a lot more comfortable examining my tires. Also, your inclusion of the tools to gauge tire tread was awesome, thank you for that! There is one thing that I wish you would've included. I am a largely visual learner and it would've been helpful to me if you had included a close-up split frame of a good tire's tread in comparison to a used tire. Thanks for your help!
+Ashley Wilt Wonderful! I'm glad my video helped you! I like that idea. A new tire will have a reading of 10/32 on the depth meter. Hope this helps :-)
Just what I wanted to know, Thanks for posting :)
+Lord Snot That's great! Thanks for the feedback.
Brock
Good and thank you.
Great vid thanks
Thank you so much! 🙂 I am always mystified about when I'm supposed to change my tires. I dont always trust car mechanics to be honest about it. Now I am confident that I can determine it for myself. And there's a guage for it? Terrific! Thanks again!
Absolutely! I love to help people and I am so glad I could help you out. The gauge is super helpful and also super cheap. You can pick them up at any car parts place or even wal mart. Thank you the excellent feedback too!!!
@@HowToCarGuy You're welcome! 😀
Thanks a lot. Good job
+Saraschandra Krishna thank you for the positive feedback!
Extremely helpful
I am so glad this helped you!
It was a helpful video and I have a question from where did you buy the card ?
Very helpful!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the info! Great video explanation on a tire tread depth gauge. 😜
+darren “hammer head” hitchcock Yes sir! I'm glad you liked it and thank you for the positive feedback!
Brock
Good information thanks
That's really helpful. When I first saw the pile of old tyres in your video, I thought why on earth should someone throw them even before the threads wear out. Mine looks exactly the same and I think I should replace them asap. Also, how long does a tyre normally lasts? It's been 30000KM since mine was changed. Thanks again : -)
excellent
Thanks
Thanks buddy
Happy to help!
You did not mention about the cracks and separation and also the age of tires that need to be replaced.
I have good amount of tire left in middle of the tire but my corners are clean as ice, should I change or still drive?
I’m looking for a quiet set of tires for my 2016 Ford Transit Connect Titanium. The OEM tires are horrible! (Continental ContiPro)
Please suggest a 60,000 (or up to) 90,000 warranty tire. Thank you
What's the best tire for ls430?
Also good roads with no potholes help
Where can I purchase this card?
Not clear off.what's spec of TWI
thanks a lot
+bizojan You're welcome! I hope this helped you out. Have a great day!
Brock
Thank you :)
Thanks for the comment, Majdi! I hope you will find my other videos helpful!

Is itsame rims and tyre sizes
A wider tire does not put more rubber on the road, only a different shape on foot print
The only way to increase a tires foot print is to lower air pressure or increase weight of the car
After a tyre replacement you could feel everything is different.handling, breaking, comfort and road noise

Any chance of putting tyre wear measurement in millimetres as well? That's what we use in the UK.
1.6 mm is the minimum tread level in the UK on car tyre 1mm on a motorbike
What happens to all the used tires
You look right past a real sport tire and pointed at and all season
What about small cracks on the side of the tire?
Are you in to wholesale bro?
Where do I get products u used 2 demonstrate
You can get one on Ebay for 89 cents which includes shipping.
there's more numbers as you move around what do they mean
Nicole Scott 5
They are not called "wear bars". They are called "Tread Wear Indicators" which is why many tires have. TWI on the shouldwr or the small trianges at various points on the shoulder to show you where you can find the tread wear indicators.
It's also not called a "Tread measurement little trick". It's called a "tread depth guage"
The best advice is, go to your local tire store as often as possible, almost all of them will do a free pressure and condition check and you can actually see it measured with the correct guage yourself. Also do not measure one groove of the tire, measure all of them. In extreme cases you can measure all grooves well above the legal limit and still have a dangerous tire so please get a professional to check them at least once a month.
You also don't run a tire that is to old,the year it was made is embossed
on the sidewalk.Over 7yrs old is becoming unsafe &could fail
Sidewalk should be sidewall
Is it ok to buy a 6/32nd ? It's obviously used but is that safe enough?
mplsridah most likely yea
Some of those tires look good enough to continue to be used. We're spoiled in this country.
Mine look more worn than that at 36k miles.
@@iishyxvietxboyii in my old country, they use it until is gone 🤣🤣🤣
@@iSprayRice And where is your old country mate? Just curious to know.
seconds? i thought it was inches?
Tire tread depth is measured in 32nds of inches - a very small unit of measurement. A new tire has 10/32 depth.
HowToCarGuy ok... so i was right. Thanks.
You're most welcome! Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!
midas617 i was kidding.
Anyone else see the resemblance to HOUSE? Just saying. Haha
+Carlos Sanchez I hear that all the time 🤣
I thought this was Jackass 😂
I'm glad you liked it!
Tires last a very long time...
