Since my birthday, 4/25/20... I’m doing a daily FLOG (farm + vlog) here on CZcams. I’m doing my best to make something and share it… EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. (...or as often as I can with a working farm to run, tv shows to make and a sweet little six-year-old to raise).

My older brother is special needs. My parents cared for him at home until he was 45 years old. Placing him in a group home was the hardest thing they ever did but they were in their 70s and it became too much for them. When he was born in 1973 doctors told them just to place him in an institution, that he would be a “burden”. Quite the opposite, he is the best part of our lives. Love is never a burden. He is nonverbal but we have a bond that is stronger than words. ❤️
Same! My little brother was born with Down Syndrome, and doctors and social workers told them the same, to place him in an institution and forget he was ever born, and to go home and try to have a good life. My parents made it clear that this was their child, and just like the rest he was going home with them :) He lived to be 59, and was such a sweet natured baby that grew into a very gentle man :)

Physical or mental “disabilities “ have nothing to do with a persons ability to love or inspire others to do the same!!! I had a sister who had mental limitations but the love we had for her; or her for us was ; inspired us as a family to see everyone as equals no matter was their challenges. Today, June 2 would have been her birthday. She would have been 77 years old. We miss her dearly. She left an impression on us all that will last a lifetime!!!!!

I remember this family. I am a retired nurse who took care of babies on ventilators in the home. Out of that relationship, my husband and I became godparents to one of my patients who was three months early. She is now turning 22 in June and I just talked to her on face time this past Sunday. I would go however many extra miles she ever wanted or needed. God puts people in your life to wake up and make your heart full ❤️
I'm from Massachusetts and my family watch just about every race and event these two men were in.

A beautiful story.. and to think if they'd listened to their doctors they'd have missed out on so much. Doctors are not God, they can't always know everything.
Amen to that if my parents listen to the doctors I would have been in a mental institution
@@denisegusman4631 doctors go to school to learn how to treat ailments and do surgeries but they really can't foresee our future. I'm so happy your parents didn't listen to that doctor.

Had to hold my chest for this one, Rory Feek. Could hardly see through the tears, I'm so proud of this Dad and his son. I've never commented on your videos (tempted to comment on those cooking shows with Marcy and Joey though, ❤!!!), but today just couldn't help myself. Thank you, just thank you, for everything you share. Keep it all up, as there are people out here in the world, far away from you, who are inspired and look forward to your video clips over a quiet coffee break . I "repeat watch/listen" your music videos with Joey while I putter with chores and such but I think my favourite videos of all, are the cooking ones. I often try Marcy Jo recipes, and brag about it:) MOST of all, I reflect on your bride when I'm working in my vegetable garden. I bless her every time I begin my seedlings each year because it was Joey who gave the tip of using our chicken egg shells to start my seedlings. 👍👍👍. 1992 on a trip across the USA we came upon his team and followers as they ran across the USA. Even celebrated at their resting town with a huge food festival. We knew of them both but seeing them in person though from a distance the feeling of awe filled the air and crowd. Thanks for jiggling my memory and wishing I could find old photos of that day. I witnessed passion a destiny to go on and even history. A History I wish could block out all the History we’re making today. BUT especially the so called History yesterday outside a boarded up historic church. Rory.....this was PERFECT. I've read about this father and son and their story has brought me to tears more than a few times. Kinda like your story, Rory. There are a lot of exceptional people in this world. Extraordinary people. It gives me such hope. I truly believe there are more good people than bad. More love than hate. The Hoyt's have recently been inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame.

I love this! My son Josh has Cerebral Palsy, mild mental retardation, and P.D.D. NOS. And even though it was hard at times, I never once even thought of giving up on him. I always treat him the same as my other two. He is 25 now and still at home. Sometimes I think God gave me Josh because he knew that I would not survive being an empty nester. This way I get to still be what I have always been. A mom that needs to feel needed. I am blessed! 🙏🏻💗💞

I have a special needs sister! Because of her I married my farmer husband! He loved her and she loved him and She’s definitely the light of our family ! She lives in a great home that takes care of her needs ! My parents could no longer care for her . She loves her house! We love her!
Wow that was so very awesome. His close to home with my brother having a traumatic brain injury on his sons 20th bday in 2018 and now he is back in the hosp day 107 having 40% of his skull replaced with a prosthetic one from Germany that finally arrived. He is a beautiful artist of sports people and his latest venture is horses. He has drawn Triple Crown drawings to be used as awards for the jockeys and has designed the programs for the banquet dinners. Right now he doesnt have use of his left side and he is left handed. We are praying when his hairline isnt laying flat on his brain and his brain can expand again his coordination will come back. This father in this story is like my dad going the extra mile to liftbmy brother down stairs help him walk help pick him up when he falls. I know the 2 stories are drastically different. We could all learn a lot from those with special needs!! They love with an unconditional love!! This world could use a lot more of that!!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful story!! My cousin was born with cystic fibrosis. The doctors told her parents to not form a bond with her, she won’t live long anyway. She was unbelievably beautiful, smart, happy even in her pain and so funny. She lived to 23. Which at the time was a very long life. She was even engaged. It’s beyond comprehension how doctors can tell folks not to love.
