My goodness, I would absolutely love to be an extra in one of these types of films. Just being one of the musketeers/soldiers would be awesome!
+Jpantelo Jpantelo long hours and it was very hot at first
Trying not to pass out at the end of august in wool jackets in a field with no shade.....
Maaan, I was raised in Arizona. That ain't no problem, @russ Petty. lol
this video quality is clearer than my future
+moviemaker4678 Not my acting carreer! haha
Dude, this is awesome! Thank you so much for doing this 17 years ago. :D
Thank you for watching and enjoying it! i remember it like it was the other day!
Who is this? you were in the tents with us on the hill in the rain....we're you there for Uncle Gimpy's story time?
Hey man the British army was the coolest part of the movie! you made all the young nerds like myself watch it. Never even thought about the fact that Americans would be wearing the British uniforms 😂
3 layers of warm wool!
You should have seen what they didn't put in the movie!
Super cool footage. Thanks for sharing. I was an extra as well (continental). Think it was either Nov or Dec of 1999. Good fun. They didn't have many people there. Seems they couldn't get many extras.. A lot of down time and we froze our butts off in Dec but we got to joke around with Mel and it was a cool experience.
Super interesting footage! I remember watching this movie as a kid and really loving it! Could you tell us a bit more about stuff that got cut or ended up not being used? Would be interesting to hear!
Alternative shots and lot of violence was cut for sure.
Mel was a riot! He was telling stories and had us laughing! He just wanted to treated like anyone else!
@@upinthemtns Sounds like you had an awesome time! I miss these types of action movies! They dont make them like they used too.
Amazing how well this turned out in the final film
You should see what they didnt show!
@@upinthemtns Lol what didn't they show?
Out of curiosity, the description mentions that you were a British soldier in the battle. How did you manage to land the "Job" was there an audition process for the extras, if so what was it like? Did you know anything about the movie before signing on, and finally how hot was it out there in that South Carolina heat lmao. I'm studying to be a filmmaking so I was just curious
Was the hair real or a wig? Did you have to grow your hair long for the movie? How did they make the braid in the back that the British troops and officers wear in this movie.? Do you still have the wig from it or was it your real hair?
I had an itchy wig that looked like roadkill at the end of the day.
So cool!
That’s awesome!
my uncle was the historical advisor for Col Tarleton for the movie, Tony Scotti. He also did reeactment as a hobby. the productors ask him if he could some reeacting for some of the battle scenes. he said no but one of his reeactment buddies did. His buddy said Mel Gibson was a jerk. He would stop scenes and start yelling at people.
Mel was super cool to us, he would tell jokes and keep us laughing.
awesome footage
Thank you! I wish i could have got more though
awsome i saw the movie
Sunrise and sunset was the best views i had all day
wow, one of the soldiers had a video camera!
Makes the movie more authentic!
what a great thing to be apart of.
August in South Carolina in 3 layers of wool.
I have to ask, how did they make the blood splat effect. Was it a blood squib? And if so, did you get one?
They used squibs, and for texture they used cranberry sauce and red food dye. I didn't get a squib but I had plenty of movie wounds !
Thank you for watching!
What time of the year was this scene filmed? It looks chilly in the movie (actors breath is smoking). Where in SC was it? Was that ruin in the middle of the field authentic or built for the movie?
Hey man I was lucky enough to work on it everyday (Red Coat) It was AWESOME!! It started actually in late June of 99 or july. Hot as hell!! Two weeks of a "basic training" then the filming started. Filmed in York County mostly, some in Chester County and finished up in Charleston. Everything was built on site and then destroyed for insurance purposes. Out of EVERYTHING Built the coolest was the fort.
@@roydub4820 Thanks! So interesting. Appreciate yr input.
Turn your head to the right, otherwise powder burns in your face!
I had an agent!
why were some of the english using Charlevilles?
had a trailer full of weapons...real ones. had to make do when supplies ran out.
What lb cannons are they
No clue! They were big blanks is all I know. No one was allowed to be near them while they were being fired.
oh ok thanks
fiberglass casts over steel tubes. authentic carriages. I lit them off from the British side and then the continental s at cowpens. they stuffed 2.5 lbs of powder and a 5lbs bag of flour for the kick and smoke.
douse embody like the bridsh uniform.
Great Vid, but where was Jason?
On a one of those horses somewhere.
@@upinthemtns ooooh
No sabía que en 1776 había cámaras de video JAJA
Not all movies are accurate! Haha
I have no idea what the heck is going on??? People cheering etc?
Screaming too
I was one one of the few people that had long hair. Up at 4 am, breakfast, hair and makeup to took 3 hours. We had to be on set at 7 a.m.
did you camp?
jason isaacs is at 5:58 riding holding a sword
Yes you're right!
That's really cool! Thank you for posting. I would've loved to have the opportunity to be in a movie like that! The Patriot is one of my favorite movies! Awesome perspective!
Thanks Im very glad you enjoyed it!!!
Was that scene filmed anywhere near the Cow Pens, S.C.? i cant believe how hot it must have been down there. Reminds me of the 2-a-day football practices in the middle of August, in full gear. Them were the Dog Days of August!
At 7:41, who is that Dragoon walking? I cannot tell if that is Jason Isaacs or Adam Baldwin LOL
Looks like adam baldwin
I was in every battle, but it was edited and shot in so many ways i can barely find myself in the movie.
All the Battle scenes took 6 weeks to film on location in Brattonsville SC.
Good Video!
sweet you got Mel Gibson!
I could have got more but... be glad with what I have
there was about 100 of us. but the CGI'd the rest of the troops in the movie! it was fun, but hot and long hrs of waiting and waiting, Just like the military!
Oh wow, that's so awesome that you got to be in the movie! Even if it was for only a short amount of time. :)
scarlett I worked 6 weeks on the battle scenes!
ya i died about 50 times but they way the edited it together its hard to tell.
Best movie ever
Omggg that's soooo awesome. How many people would be on the battlefields usually??
No Problem, glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my God, which soldier were you? That's awesome that you've put it on CZcams as well!
I was the British Grenadier! I was in the movie for .05 seconds! Haha
upinthemtns Wow, that's awesome. Must've been fun! :)
EPICFAILKING1 Yes it was fun but really long days! Lots of waiting in between takes.
upinthemtns How did you get into the movie, did you sign up?
Which battle in the movie did u film while playing dead?
If you were a granadier were you in the actual scene 8:20 when Mel Gibson crushed into that british guy with the flag? Were you the other soldier running next to the british guy? In you know what i mean?
I died several times and ended up a blur in in the movie.
How in the hell did you get this footage? I think everyone forgets this is not cell phone footage, it's a bazooka sized video camcorder. They just let you film this? If people check their text messages today, film crew will run over and tell you to put the phone away. James Cameron will staple it to the wall (Which he did during Avatar)
I used a state of the art sharp view cam, I kept it tucked away in my bag.
had to dodge the camera nazi. she would grab your camera. most of us carried disposables just in case. I heard talk of you filming while laying there dead.....
+upinthemtns Does anyone from the production know about this yet? Mel? Be cool if they knew!
michael cristian I have no idea? I hope they do!
How you had a chance be part of that film?
did you get to keep the uniform?
No, it was property of the film company.
where can i find this filming location of the battlefield.
Brattonsville South Carolina
If you want to see where we camped and filmed. The guy that owns the land holds an annual sport clay shooting tournament every year there. High Cotton Classic.
3:05 what is the name of that tune?
No idea what so ever! Sorry
Lilliburleo
7.50 dead horses?? are they real??
Ya real fake

upinthemtns oml favorite movie ever, so lucky you got to be part of it man!!!!
where's heath ledger.
He was dead in the movie by this point.
+upinthemtns OK.
I thought the movie was made in 2000
it was filmed summer/fall 1999
Tell us more of how you got to be a British soldiers...How many soldiers were there total number in battle...
+MrBloodylord Baron Samedi. there was about 100 of us, we had to learn to march, and learn how to shoot black powder rifles. there was about 100 of us on the set. They cgi'd everyone else in the movie.
So how did you feel, what was your toughts...Did you looked on battlefield or just in front...You say a 100 of you...Well that is interesting...CGI? Well that solve that...I want to film a movie about a battle that was on a hill near my home town...Only thing there was a redoubt a big one...
a good battle field and a good movie
