This is great you guys. I’m a 70 year old guy and I row around 5 miles or 1 1/2 hours every other day or more and I’ve been getting kind of stiffness in my back. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for without looking. Accidentally found your site and it looks perfect. I’m going to start doing this tonight. Thanks.
I just read the description! Don't worry about your speech at all. You sound great and still clear. Hope it heals up nicely, wishing you all the best. Thank you for the video!
I'm dealing with such a glued up thoracic, rotator and cervical areas! Got a curvature, and also sick and sedentary often. Thank you for this, so much.
Thanks for recognize limitations old people has. You talk about your wives. I will talk about my husband. I'm in independent living facility he is for sometime at long term care. First he refused to drink, now he drinks but what can we do motivated for excercisezes please! I try to visit him everyday when I can.
Thank you! I needed this! I’ve been too sedentary for a year and a half (staying home due to covid). I really need to work on my posture and strengthening my core!
Your video is almost to the length to get the information to you need without extras you don't need or have the time for. Thanks again for your time and work.
Bob got glasses! Good timing, I'm at a desk a lot and even though I can turn it into a stand up desk, i struggle with my posture. By the end of the day my shoulders/chest are all tight,
I just did that first one (W) as I sit here at my desk and am already aware that I am sitting up straighter with my shoulders back. I need to work on bringing them down instead of scrunching them up toward my ears. Practice, practice, practice!
@@susanmercurio1060 Easier said than done. I'm relaxed. I'm just in a stressful job and am hunched over a computer keyboard for 11-12 hours per day. Practice, practice, practice. lol I have to practice relaxing.
@@teresaspensley5640 I had it travelling throughout my body years ago when I first recovered. Feet, knees, hips, back. It would seem to be so bad for a month or so then move on to another place. Now my right hip hurts. Yes everyone seems to have similar or different effects. I was surprised To see someone say right hip exactly what I am currently dealing with.
I've been an iv heroin addict for over 20yrs. Have perpetual profusion of CSF from holes in my spinal cord in my neck, which has bone on bone throughout. I've been doing really well staying off dope, mostly since it's become truly dangerous with the advent of fentanyl. I also have bone on bone in lumbar. Have endured transposition of nerve surgeries in my arm that had to be improvised because I was so damaged. Looking for help in MN, Minneapolis area. Thank you for showing us what real friends are...your dynamic alone is extraordinarily attractive. Tempus fugit! Carpe diem!!
Its pretty easy to cheat these stretches similar to cheating a quad stretch. Thoracic extension needs to be possible with the core engaged. Fight the tendency to flare the ribs to compensate. You can have fairly vertical posture and still be locked into internal rotation in the shoulder girdle. Stretch those pec minors folks. Strengthen the upper back. Great video 👍
I've had hunched shoulders just about all my life but when I attempt good posture, I get a pinched nerve in my upper back and I'm screwed for about 3 days until it calms down again. I'm at a loss.
Thanks a lot! Glad that all the exercise I've been doing all along are the right ones. I'm a righty, I often lean on my left elbow for writing and using computer, so now I have this constant discomfort in my left shoulder blade - it feels....off. Like it's sticking out or something. Could you show some ways to fix this next time?
I’ve got osteoporosis and have fractured T11 and L3 and really need to try some of these. The exercise ball may be too much and also the sit-ups. Please have Sara Meeks back on soon.
This helps my "Blacksmith Syndrome". Right side dominant but ambidextrous by necessity, fortunately! 4 major right hand injuries while in art school forced me to lean left. 35 years in the trades my right shoulder and arm has been twice as big as my left. I had to really be aware of trying to balance the duty... It's a struggle. A "Construction Supervision" MBA buddy told me he was taught at Purdue to expect 5 years of worthwhile labor from a worthwhile tradesman before his body is shot from the repetitive work. Fortunately there are people like you that have helped people like me that never had health insurance!
Lampworking borosilicate is an AMAZING way to balance ourselves in ambidexterity & more...I suggest checking out videos of people lampworking borosilicate, there's gold in them thar hills :)
@@briangrussing9327 I spent all of my high school bus boy wages at a chiropractor and learned to stretch through Kung Fu and ninja mags. It was suggested to me in college to take acting classes, as "the body is the instrument". In those 5 semesters I learned yoga, Feldencreist techniques, how to walk like different people, etc... The program really focused on a healthy, fit body and mind. Unfortunately the Fine Arts Dept didn't have glassblowing/lampworking. I bet it happened in other departments, though! 3d and Material Science kinda lacked in Purdue's A&D department.... go figure.
@@jeremiahshine I was a child actor, plucked from the tree of life at age 4...I was an absolute natural. After feeling like a hypocrite (at age 13), I taught myself how to blow glass with zero help, instruction, etc. I took the bits & pieces of waste glass out of an alley dump can, then cleaned it all & began feeling (& burning) my way through it all. Because the fire within me was so fractal, I was able to do freakishly brilliant "techniques" that even to this day, no glass worker has developed. I miss those days...as I find myself in a needlessly bitter soup of associations with a severely damaged body at age 40, I look forward in the now to the infinite wonders beyond us. I am another you
@@briangrussing9327 Have you been to Navy Pier in Chicago? The glass museum there is way cool. I got 5 lifetimes of ideas when I was there. I was called "Purdue's Last Hope" when I was there ...behind my back! They called me the "Last Modernist" to my face. I think because I was the dirtiest one in the studios!
Docs thank you for the demonstrations, these are great and I do nearly all of them. Also another movement that has helped is ''sitting zercher thoracic curls'' for the thoracis strengthening, I hope there's no risk with that with appropriate weight and reps?
What about sleeping surfaces? Is sleeping on hardwood floors good for the spine? What are your favorites; and what do you recommend? Those stretches looked like they felt great! :^)
If you already have poor posture sleeping on a hard surface will just make it worse Don’t worry too much about how you sleep, on your back if you can but it’s not essential, quality of sleep is more important. Focus on what you do during the day
So, what do we do for the opposite problem? I have no thoracic arch at all. I was first told this by chiropractors when I was in my mid 20s. None of them knew how to reverse it, though. (I do have scoliosis as well.)
Bob has obvious hyperkyphosis. I think he needs to do all those exercises… seriously! Any exercises to fix it need long term practice. Just now and then will not help! And those rollers should never be harder than medium. It is not a feat of heroism, it is about loosening up the connective tissues, such as muscular fascia and synovial sheaths. This will greatly support the regaining of good posture. The other aspect is to exercise for the correction of one’s special perception, aka proprioception. I would say it is half the solution for bad postures. Good luck!
