3985 and 5511 are both being rebuilt to operation at RRHMA Silvis Illinois.
I’m already aware of that. But, what still baffles me is that if there would be a reunion of some sort where the 3985 and 4014 exchange tenders, since the 3985 still has 4014’s original tender while the 4014 has 3985’s tender since it was already converted to carry oil since 1990.
Maybe they wouldn’t have to exchange the tenders after all, since both locomotives have the exact same type of tender. They both have the same shape, and they can haul the same amount of fuel and water. And of course, I’m not the person in charge. I’ll leave it up to the people in charge (both the RRHMA, and the UP Steam Team, especially the man himself Ed Dickens) and I’ll let them decide what to do with these expensive, yet incredible projects.

At least we got U.P. 4014 which looks like a somewhat a u.p. challenger 3985 truth is that 3985 is a 4-6-6-4 not a 4-8-8-4 it has different disc wheels a 3985 has 3 disc wheels and 4014 has 4 disc wheels not a 4-8-8-4 it has different noses and U.P. 4014 has a different front nose at least U.P. 3977 is a around today but with elephant ears.

On second thought, I decided to reconsider making separate videos, except one would be 844, and the other 3985. Eventually 5511 while at it. I’ve already done 4014, twice, but I’m thinking of redoing the first 4014 video just to make it better.

One thing that you did not mention about U.P. 844 on June 24, 1999, while on display during RailFair '99, one of the 844's boiler tubes failed, and the locomotive was subsequently towed dead back to Cheyenne by the recently-overhauled No. 3985 The tube was found to have been made of the wrong material during the overhaul in 1996, a discovery that prompted the replacement of the firebox in a complete overhaul that lasted from September 2001 to 2004. On September 9, 2004, the UP steam crew successfully test-fired the 4-8-4. It returned to operating service on November 10, 2004.
