- In this DIY woodworking video, I’ll show you how to build shaker doors with the table saw using a regular table saw blade. Often referred to as rail and stile doors or tongue and groove doors, these cabinet doors are easy to build with this foolproof method!

This is an out standing explanation of making shaker doors perhaps the best video and tutorial I have ever seen. I have been using pocket holes for years for this style door , I never wanted to take the time to try the way You have made these doors in Your video , Once I watched the video , I thought I would give it a try. I have to really concentrate cause I am a newbie to all this and I really appreciate the great camera work too. Lol: I kept putting the hoses on wrong on my Dust Deputy so I finally had to label which hole goes to which hose on the Dust Deputy canister. That's how new I am😁

Nice use of that flooring. I use MDF for panels because 6 mm plywood in the UK is guaranteed to be anything but flat ! MDF paints nicely too. In fact I used 18 mm for stiles and rails on doors for my daughter's 3 meter wide floor - to - ceiling storage last year. Primer + 3 coats of acrylic eggshell and they seem tough enough.

I needed this video about 2 months ago. I have made 10 large wall units in my life with shaker doors. This last one I started before a small medical issue. I began having trouble with math as a result. I have now worked it out however (time heals almost all), I watched, saved and thank you for this video. I am back on track. Yes I'm old, things fall apart as we age, LOL. Great video and thanks again.

I was building some storm windows for a friend of mine's camp and once I saw this vid, it hit me like a ton of bricks how to do it, but I watched your video for any tips I could use. Perfect! I live in a condo and often people leave their reno discards in our recycle area. I picked up a kitchen cabinet that was in really good shape but the door was a bit fancier than my existing shaker style doors. I will also be building a window box combination seating and storage area for my kitchen and being able to build these matching shaker doors is exactly what I need. WOW! I used the same technique without any experience. I don't have all the fancy wood shop tools so had to come up with a way of doing it with what I have. So I just looked at one on the kitchen cabinet and logically reverse engineered it. Came out perfect. We think alike so now I'm going to have to look at some of your other videos. Thanks!

The shoulder should be about 1/16th from the bottom of the groove for glue expansion. Its likely not to matter so so much, but that ensures it wont split or push apart. And glad you mentioned not making a thru cut with the wood against the fence and mitre guage. I was cringing until you mentioned why it was fine for this operation.

You could always use Space Balls with the centre panel instead of just leaving it floating, they’re relatively inexpensive.

That is a very good basic approach to fitting tenons and mortises. I do a similar process- always using a scrap piece before cutting the good ones. But, but for the fence location, I have a dial indicator clamped to the table and adjust the fence in thousandths and tap the fence just the right amount to have the next cut fit perfectly. I use 2 indicators on my router table for getting the fit with the next cut...Thanks for the video..Jim

Honestly, when using plywood for the center panel there's little chance of expansion. Gluing the panel in the grooves provides a lot of strength and makes up for the short tenons. Great job explaining the process!
True, but I assume that would be more messy with the glue squeeze out and I'm lazy 😉
@@DIYMontreal that's possible, but if the doors are very big, which yours aren't, it's good to have the strength since the tenons are short.

I like to use a dado blade or a tendening jig much quicker run it threw once . Nice video.
2:29 it is at this point where my wife and kids would call me, and it would take me 2 days of that just to cut out the channels, of which then id make a mistake.. again.. time would run out and the wood would end up launched across the garden XD
I am going to be doing this in a few weeks again, wish me luck haha
Tongue and groove may look easy at first but it really is tricky and time consuming if you want to get a nice and square fit.
It is indeed tricky, that's why I wanted to figure out a method anyone can follow and get it Right. The proof: this was my first time making tongue and groove doors.

Nice job. I don't make a lot of doors, but do make a lot of furniture and other items. I'm making a little library for the neighborhood and so I gotta make a couple of nice doors (with plexiglass panels) from expensive hardwood since it'll be outside in all kinds of weather.
