I washed and dried it! Here's a quick update: czcams.com/video/ZWLd7W9Io6Y/video.html
Love the fabric prints.
I love your videos! It’s nice to see a quilter using affordable fabric from JoAnns too. Not everyone can afford designer fabrics. Sometimes on social media I see quilters put down fabrics from big box stores, but sometimes those affordable fabrics are just the ticket for a multitude of reasons. Thanks for making your wonderful videos! ❤
You are so sweet! Thank you! This comment makes me tear up! This is exactly what I am trying to do--give everyone affordable ideas in sewing and quilting. I am thrilled it is coming through in my videos. I have more planned, too! Stay tuned! Thank you for making my day! ❤️❤️❤️
What a fun, low stress, thinking outside the box project! Flipping the dark squares over was genius.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Love the navy blocks turned like you did, makes it so much prettier!
Thank you! I think so, too!
Glad I am not the only one to flip fabric upside down to get the look I need/want
I love doing it! Glad I’m not alone, either. We are in great company! 🥰
Great video! I love how this turned out. I wouldn't have thought to flip the dark fabric. I would have rearranged the colors and put the dark ones in the corners
That’s a good idea, too!
That was my idea too.
Thank you for the quick, quilt idea. It would be good to make for a picnic even to use as a table cloth, or floor play quilt for a baby. Love it.
Great ideas! Thank you so much!
Rules? FOOEY! Love the way you took us through the process... inspiration at Joann's, shopping for the backing - totally didn't see that coming! Could be the fastest baby quilt ever! I can't wait to visit the beach towel clearance!
Also, now I really want to make a black, white and yellow quilt...🙄😉
Thank you! So happy it inspired you! Ohhhhh-clearance is a great idea! ❤️
I LOVE the idea of using a towel for the backing - especially for summer quilts!!
Thank you! I love how soft it is!
What a fun quilt! I love that you flipped the darker fabric!
A towel! Genius! This would make a fun picnic quilt.
Thank you, Fallon! It is so soft and cozy! Love it for a picnic quilt. ❤️
Wouldn't it though?
Here I thought you were going to use a fleece blanket. Towels you were totally thinking outside the box. Brilliant! My gears are turning, thank you.
Thank you! ❤️
I love how you get so excited when you cheat the quilt police!! Lol it turned out cute!! ❤
LOL! I haven't thought it of it that way, but I think that's exactly what I get excited about. Thank you for this! ❤️😂
Love the risk you took with the towel. Washing the towels was a must. You did it !!
Thanks! I am so glad I was washed them!
Good idea. Sometimes I go to goodwill and get a sheet of a tablecloth for backing
I love doing that, too, especially with flannel sheets. That are so cozy! 🥰
It absolutely does look so much better
Right? Honestly, it was in complete real time. I was so disappointed when I saw the dark up against the rest of the fabrics. At first, I was going to just go with it, but I am glad I went with my gut instinct on it. I love how it looks like faded denim. ❤️
Okay....now I have to make one.....too stinking cute!!!!
Yay! So glad it inspired you! ❤️
The reverse of that blue fabric matches the green fabric better, too. What a fun summery quilt!
Good idea! You’re right! ❤️
Beach towel backing - Genius! 😮😮
Thank you! I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I absolutely love it! I will use towels again, for sure!
Cute little quilt.
Thank you!
Would make a great baby quilt with the towel backing.
OH! True! That would be great!
You matched that towel seam great.
Thank you! The stripes helped. ❤️
I love BIRTHED quilts.... my Nonnie use to make a lot of them when I was little ..... She used the same technique that used .
I love that this made you think of your Nonnie! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much for sharing!
gr8 job love the beach towel as backing. Hey anything goes when your a modern day quilter Yah...❤
Yes! Thank you! So true! ❤️
Stitch a outline of a lemon on the squares. It would add a custom quilting touch and keep your squares from sagging in the middle.
Great idea! Thanks for the tip! If i make another one, I think I will do this. I already quilted this one on the diagonal, but I love this idea! ❤️
Very creative turning the blue fabric…..I think I might try this for a picnic table cloth. Thanks
You are so welcome! I love that you are going to try this! ❤️
I would love the look of these fabrics in a Dresden hand bag.
That would be beautiful!
This was a really cute quilt...I think I can beat your cost of a quilt...I recently was trying to do something with all the scraps so I made a string quilt...so far no cost...then I used all the leftover batting and pieced it together...no cost...so the final was the backing and that was a sheet that I no longer used that was still very nearly unused...again no cost... Finished it off with scrap binding and a 46 x 46 quilt. I donated it to my church for our building fund and we raised $500.
Woohoo! I love it! I have done a few no-cost quilts (actually have a non-cost event happening next weekend), but you may have me beat since the donation raised $500! Amazing! ❤️ Thank you for sharing!
🔥Sooooo CREATIVE with the towel❣
Quilt juices are flowin' now LOL🤣
GREAT video Kris🤩
Thanks, Tracy! ❤️❤️❤️
So glad it turned out! Love the backing and will definitely do a backing like yours ☺️
Yay! Thank you! We love this quilt! We use it more than I ever thought we would. So cuddly!
Love, love, love it!!!❤❤❤
Thank you! ❤
Very creative. You did a great job. Was fun to watch your enthusiasm. It's nice when we can still get excited over a new project
Thank you! I love that sense of excitement, too! ❤️
Love that you took up this challenge. Turned out great! Love your videos.
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice job. Enjoyed watching how much fun you had.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Dito for all comments. Good idea for todller bath towel. Thank you
Ohhh! YES! This would be perfect for that! Great idea! Thank you. ❤️
I use a lot of JoAnn’s fabrics, but I will not use her precuts ever again. I have bought 2 Kelley rolls and one fat quarter. All were cut so badly they were unusable. You got lucky. I like your idea. The towel backing was genius.
Good to know! I haven't used any precuts from JoAnn's until now, but I am hoping to use them again. I will proceed with caution for sure. Thank you for this tip and for your kind words. Those towels are so soft! I love how it feels on the back!
I like this, great for outside on the porch if alittle chill is in the air😊😊😊
Oh, it would be perfect for that! I may have to put it on my front porch now. Great idea! ❤️
Years ago when we traveled to South Carolina to visit relatives, we used beach towels to cover our luggage, etc. in the back of our station wagon. Then when we went into motels for the night, we would take the towels inside and use them as extra pillows or blankets. Your quilt would be good for travel too.
What a great idea! I love it! Thank you!
Towels what a wonderful idea. Love this little quilt. Great baby gift idea and it won’t break the bank. 👍🏼😁
Thank you so much! This would be a perfect baby quilt! Great idea!
I was utterly fascinated by this!! I don’t quilt but I could certainly do this. Love it.
YAY! Thank you! You can do it! If you try, let me know if you have questions! Happy to help!
I have several quilt tops. Love this idea
Yay! So happy you like it! ❤
Genius idea and it does look great😍
Thank you! 😊
Great idea to use towels for the backing. ❤
Thank you!
This is so inspiring! As costs continue to increase for just about everything, it's great to explore ways to continue to do what we love without breaking the bank.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed this budget-friendly quilt. I agree--we need to be a bit more frugal these days. ❤️
That's such a clever idea!
Thank you! ❤️
What a great picnic quilt and for the beach 🏖️. Cute idea. I love doing a half inch shadow stitching on my seams, too. In this case, I would have also used a marking pencil and ruler to make diagonal lines going through the squares and stitched on those. Traditional but secures the squares and the geometric design contrasts well with the floral prints and wavy design on the towel backing.
Great idea to add the additional quilting needed but not make it stiff.
Great idea! I just got back from vacation, so I haven't finished quilting this one. I love this idea--thank you! I will try it!
Great idea for backing!
Thank you! It is so soft!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!
What a fun project! Great for camping or around the pool!
YES! Thank you so much! Glad you love it! It would be perfect for those things! ❤️
I would never have thought to flip the fabric over!
It made all the difference, didn't it? ❤️
Thank you Chris. I learn so much from you. I think I’m going to try this. 😊
You are so welcome! I am happy to hear you are learning from me. That makes my heart happy. Thank you for this! ❤️❤️❤️
Pretty quilt
Thank you!
I love your ideas and spontaneous personality!
Thank you so much!
Cute! I can’t do free motion so I have tied some quilts! That works great too!! Great idea…. Would really be cute for a donation quilt!! Ty
My pleasure! YES! This would make a great donation quilt and it would be great tied, too! Thanks so much for watching and sharing!
Love it. I have that same fabric. I think I’m going to try this too.
Yay! So happy to hear this! Thank you for sharing!
I just love this quilt. What a super idea! I enjoy your videos and have learned some great tips. Keep up your videos and enthusiasm!!😊
Thank you SO MUCH! You are so sweet! I have some more videos planned, although I have been under the weather lately. Hoping to get back to creating this week! Thanks again for your kind words. 🥰
What a fantastic project, and turning the blue block to the back was such a great idea as it totally made the quilt look perfect!! Such a fantastic idea for a quilt that will be so handy for going to the beach or a swimming pool, or just to use on the porch or patio!! Great job!
Thanks so much! 😊 I am currently sitting on my couch next to my dog who is laying on that exact quilt! Surprisingly, it has helped up super well. I have washed it at least 30 time now. I am impressed! I love that you love this one. It was a super fun and fast make! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts on this!
Towels?!? Wow... I love that!!
So happy to hear! They make this so soft, too!
A great idea! Perfect for a backyard sit-upon for children. Thanks Kris
Thank you so much! It would be perfect for that! Great idea!
Love this!! What a great idea to use the towel 💙
Thank you! ❤️
I use my dust buster hand vacuum to get rid of fuzz and threads😍
That's awesome! Thank you for watching and sharing!
Love your videos, not sure how I found them but really enjoying them.
Thank you so much! Glad you like them! 🥰
Wow I love that. Thank you so much for sharing this with
You are so welcome! 🥰 Glad you love this one. I do, too!
I’ve actually done that recently because my fabric was way too bright for my project
Way to go sis!
Thank you! 😊 Glad I am not the only one who does this. ❤️
So pretty! I thought for sure you were going to buy a sheet, tablecloth, or throw blanket for the back, but you surprised me with the towels! You did a great job sewing them together.
Those are all great ideas, too! Hmmm-you are giving ideas for another personal challenge! Lol! Thank you!
Super great idea!
Thank you!!
What a sweet little quilt! You taught me something. Taping the backing to the floor. I am an old dog, and I did learn a new trick. Thanks for sharing.
😊 You are so welcome! I love that method, but it's probably because I learned to do it that way 25 years ago. This old dog needs to learn some new tricks, too, maybe? LOL! Thank you for the chuckle!
So pretty
Thank you! ❤️
Brilliant!
Thank you! 😍
Great idea! ❤❤❤
Thank you! 🥰
So cool! I’m halfway finished making one! Just waiting for the dryer to finish with my towels. My grandsons will love these for the beach. 😀
YAY! I hope it turned out beautiful and your grandsons love it! I just got back from vacation, so I am just seeing this now. Sorry about that! I would love to hear how it turned out and see pictures! My email is sewthedistance@gmail.com .
I love it!
Thank you! So glad you love it! ❤️
When I first started quilting 3 years ago, I put an ad on Marketplace asking for donations. You cannot imagine how much fabric I now own, not to mention notions.
Love this idea! Great way to share the love of fabric. ❤️
Love it, great inexpensive idea. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad you love it!
Who’s a clever girl then! How ingenious to use towels. Absolutely fab. Thanks Kris xx
Thank you so much! ❤️
So creative! Great video! Thanks for sharing!

I have used old washcloths to line bowl cozies. Works great!! Good job😊
Oh wow! Thanks for the tip! I’m going to try this on bowl cozies. Awesome idea!
Love, love, love it! Such a creative idea to use large towels. I think I need one of these, too. Thanks for sharing. Blessings to y'all.
Thank you! It is such a cozy quilt! I think I need to make a bigger one now. ❤️
a very smart choice turning that dark blue fabric to the wrong side. it really did pop. towels - I never would have thought of that. looks amazing.
Thank you! I knew I wouldn't like that dark blue in the end. This has become my family's favorite quilt! I keep it on our porch. It is perfect for out there.
You're a smart cookie - that's a terrific project. I love the way it turned out.
Thank you! I wasn’t sure if it would work or not. I am so happy it did! ❤️
You were so right to turn the blue. Just love this quilt.
Thank you! It’s a great quilt!
What a great idea. I would never of thought using a beach towel for the backing. Love how it turned out.!!
Thank you! ❤️
I love it! Fabulous tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! You are so welcome! ❤️
Wonderful idea to use the back side of the fabric! This would probably help a lot with a log cabin quilt, if you needed more light fabrics.
Thank you! Yes! This works really well with light/dark quilts like the log cabin. So happy it helped!
I love this! Some projects are worth getting fussy over... and others, you just feel like making something that is cute and usable, but without breaking the bank or taking tons of time to do. I could see making a version using a few layers of old flat sheets as the combo batting/backing, too! I think it's time for me to whip up a couple "summer quilts" for my niece and nephew... 😉
Yay! Lucky niece and nephew! So happy it inspired you! Love the idea of using sheets! Great idea! Thank you for sharing!
Love it. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Glad you love it! ❤️
Nice job Kris! I loved that you challenged yourself in "real time". 😀
Thanks! I thought I really hit a road block when I saw that blue fabric on the board. 😂 You never know!
Found you. I enjoy your teaching.
Awesome! Thank you! I am so happy you found me, too! ❤
That was a great idea reversing the dark blue square. Also the towels. It's beautiful. Thank you for your ideas. ❤️
You are so welcome! ❤️
I love this quilt! You've inspired me to make a couple for my grandsons! Thank you!
YAY!! So happy you will be making it! I have it on my porch right now and use it most evenings. It is a great quilt if I do say so myself. 😂😍
That is so cool!
So happy you like this! ❤️
Sewing a button in the middle of each block would look sooo cute
Oh, great idea! Thank you!
What a great project love the fabric

@SewtheDistance Thank-you for your creativity and organization. I appreciate your time and channel.😊❤️🌹🦋🌷🧩🧵🪡
Thanks Chris for the fun video!! I love your owl quilt hanging in the background.
Love, love, your reduce cost quilt, using beach towels. I've used throw blankets & attached the self binding method on two wide sides less fabrics waste. Flip & hem .😊
Thank you so much! The blanket idea a great, too! Thank you for sharing! 🥰
Thanks
You're welcome! 🥰
I bought that fabric last year and made placemats and table runners for my daughter's. I think I have some left. Might have to give your idea a try.
Ohhh! I am sure they are beautiful! I am happy to hear you are going to try this! It is a fun quilt to make!
I've used old towels inside quilted potholders but would never thought to use new towels. Im stealing this great idea to back my potholders with co odinating dish towels! And gift as sets. Thanks for the inspiration❤
Ohhhh--love this idea for potholders! Thanks for the idea! Love that this inspired you, too! Thanks for sharing!
This is how I make some of my specialty quilts ❤❤❤
Love it! Did you use towels or Joann’s precuts? Or both? Thank you for watching!
