    Even a non-repair of a no fault or a no fix because of damage beyond repair that isn't cost effective is a valuable learning experience. Watching you go through the process of eliminating possible faults is a learning experience you can't learn in books or even in a school teaching electronics. Give me this type of learning and I will do it all day long. Going to a physical school can teach you electronics but it does nothing to teach repairs in real world scenarios. Keep teaching and we all we keep learning. Thank you so much for going through the painful process of teaching. We all know you don't have to do this but I for one appreciate what you have to offer. Thank you again.

    Wow, you do have patience dismantling this laptop. If it was in my hands I'll probably be fling 3 floors under, through the window, before getting repaired. Everything seems odd in this laptop, from the weird board design to the amount of screws they put in. Congratulations on another job well done.

    finally ... i was able to watch Sorin actually "replace" a capacitor ..... 😁

    • @protonx80
      @protonx80 Před 4 lety

      i think i know why Sorin replaced the cap here .... i think because of the design difference ... and the input being like a power supply .. instead of the two serial mosfets .... he thought the cap bank may be the capacitor of the switching power supply after the coil ..... and it would be wise to replace it in that case .... 😊

I was looking for similar ones, just like yours, with curved needles but haven't found anything. I'd really appreciate if you could tell me if maybe I could buy such curved leads or I'd have to modify straight needle ones. Thanks and keep up the good work, cheers.

    Lets see if im right

  • @JackIll0
    @JackIll0 Před 4 lety +1

    Appears to be some sort of serial flaw, ceramic caps would only break through and shortcut with a massive over-voltage, not just a temporary peak, maybe they took caps with 16V instead of 25V breakthrough voltage during manufacturing process by "mistake"? In that case, replacing all ceramic caps of same type on 19V should be advisable.

    I have a Dell Latitude E7240 which powers on but no display and no hdmi output, when I plug the charger in the system boots up without display:
    - Power button led comes on
    - Hard drive led flashes once very quickly
    - Battery led comes on for one second
    - After 4 seconds the power button led goes off
    - After another 4 seconds the power button led comes back on and stays on, the hard drive led flashes once very quickly
    The green leds on the actual msata SSD light up
    If I leave the system in this state then the cpu and heatsinks get hot and eventually the fans will spin (but still no display)
    Pressing the power button once will turn off the system (cpu will cool down, msata leds will turn off)
    I’ve tried the following:
    - Performed hard reset / static discharge, disconnected and checked cmos battery (3v on multimeter)
    - Replaced RAM, msata, screen with known working
    - Tried booting while holding down ESC, D, FN keys
    - Tried HDMI output (no output)
    I’d really appreciate any other suggestions / tips, could it be a corrupt bios? Thanks in advance

      @GeekBii Před 5 lety

      You don't have a capacitor issue but it may come from the super I/O chip which is shutting down the pc after doing the verifications of the critical components. When it detects a faulty component like the graphic ship, it shut the pc after (2 seconds). If your pc is getting hot, it is definitely that. The overheat problem is due to dust and obstructed openings on the back of the pc which result in damaging the graphic ship over times.
