The problem is mixing up types may be. Lifepo4 battery pack is self regulating 13.5 volts. Other batteries are lithium not iron,Jackery pack,fewer cycles. These packs use an internal electronic 13.5regulator with limited current often 10 amps like a car. One solution is an external dc to dc converter. Plug in and set to 13.5 volts. Even with lower input will boost to 13.5. Best is what you have for diesel. Lifepo4 battery will provide volt,amps needed. Self regulating. Hook to van to charge buy lithium charger for ac charging at home.Great video!
I have the same heater, and my delta mini would always shut off and not let the heater start up. This video was very helpful. I was thinking I needed a dedicated battery for the heater. I'm glad you made this video.

The heater uses 8-9-10 amps on startup, and it drops to 1-2-3 amps when the glow plug is enough hot. After the start process, the pump is the only power consumption.
The 12volt plug on your battery is frequently limited to 5-6-8 amps, not enough to start the glow plug when it s too cold outside.
Read the label on your battery and the diesel heater’s user manual.
Would using the AC plug help alleviate this, instead of the 12V cigarette plug?
I just finished setting up the 8kW variant in my garage. They work quite well. They're a surprisingly good copy of the Webasto units. Li-Ion batteries are very picky with temperature. They've got a very logarithmic output curve. When they're cold they're not good for much!

hi puppy dog....hi Lone wolf..must say diesel heaters work great..at least he older ones I was used to using..big massive shop types....Polomy dweller stove I purchased about 2 years back, worked perfect in my installation inside a 33 foot RV ...reduced my electric bill by literally hundreds of dollars USD..still have my Dweller as a back up for what ever might happen..grreat video as always...(stay warm friend...lol)
I know this video is now 11 months old. the diesel heater on startup needs around 15 amps the DC power port on the eb3 is only 10 amps. so, the eb3 kind of goes into overload protection mode. if you want to use the eb3a you will need a ac to dc converter and must be 15 amp the downfall, is you have to run it off the ac side of the eb3a.

Very informative video today Jeremy. It was good to see how the different power banks handled the diesel heater...I just have a Jackery 240 and a Golabs i200 , and after seeing how much juice is needed for that glow plug, I am thinking my two power banks will be insufficient and inefficient to run my diesel heater in the van. Seems the start up alone will use up a lot of the power in both of them . This information is very helpful , especially for those of us hoping to find a good source of power to run our diesel heaters in the winter. Thank you for todays video. WOW ! A lot of people use them battery units and I have NEVER seen one fail like this,,, NEVER,,,, but I guess there is a first time for everything !!!! I guess that heater definitely needs more than 17% to assure a start-up,,,, at least you know now before you get into a life or death situation, but you also do have several back-ups so that should never happen, so its a good video because not everyone has several backups but now they will not be caught off guard, I know I would definitely take a 2nd one now and not rely on one !!!!! You nailed it. I run my fridge on its only dedicated lifepo4 100 ah.I never understood why people run fridge off power station. I also charge my battery with a 100 watt solar panel and a small charge controller. Great vid rock on.
I just got his heater several weeks. In the process of modifying it to make it better. Zip ties to hold the tank in place, diesel filter in line with supply hose. Better heater hose for going into the tent, better muffler from Van cafe as the one that comes with it doesn't do much. I also used rivets to hold the latches in place as that was irritating me when I took the cover off the latches would just fall off. Much more secure now and no rattling.
Something I ran into is the power stations discharging faster in cold. I was camping in -14 and with a similar setup, it predicted 16.5 hours runtime. In practice I got 9 because it was so cold. Even having the battery in the heated space, the heater was having trouble keeping up with -14c so the battery didn’t stay warm enough.

odd, I've used mine down to minus -25F, many times, never had any issues. With my Rooftop tent I usually have to keep a window open even with the heater on low. When I'm using my bigger tents I can keep the tent closed up more.
one thing I will add, I usually set the heater up 1st thing too, and keep the battery warm from that. Waiting til later in the evening, I can see the batteries having issues..
Your way of teaching and explaining are right on point.could save allot of inexperienced campers as well as experienced hard cold times....

Litime now has a 12v 100amp hour mini battery that i picked up and plan to use when i get one of these heaters. Looking forward to seeing how well it does. Smaller footprint than the bluetti eb3a, just a little taller. Plan to have both, eb3a for the plugs / inverter and the litime to back it up and also run the heater.

I always take an electric blanket as a plan d and it is an excellent pair with a portable power station.....these diesel heaters aren't meant to run from a cigarette lighter adapter. Better with the battery for sure, one must allow proper heat up and cool down cycles on the heater....you could also get a ac to dc converter to run the heater from the ac port on the bluetti at a regulated voltage.
Thats exactly what I had to do to get mine to work with the Jackery type unit I have. The drawback is that it is pulling a LOT more power from the jackery than it would it plugged directly into the 12v output.

I had the same issue with my heater. I kept trying it and it eventually kicked on. Going forward it takes two cycles of the power up and it runs fine. I have an Ecoflow River Max. I believe the unit itself does not get enough power to heat the glow plug so it errors out the first time go, then the plug is mildly warmer and the second go at it works fine.

The problem is voltage not wattage, as the glow plugs warm and draw more current the voltage can drop as low 11V, with a small battery that does not have a substantial amperage, the voltage can dip into the 9.5V range and the glow plugs just don't warm enough. The size and length of the cables are also important at low voltages. At lower voltages you want bigger / thicker cables in order to get less voltage drop per meter/foot. A buck converter can help keep the voltage up but again that comes at the cost of amperage. I had the same issue with a 120V to 12V 9A transformer and changing to 9A 14V power supply kept the max voltage drop to 12.3V which is ample to get the glow plugs warm. In essence a bigger battery with more amperage will lead to less under load voltage dropping which is what you want.

It’s possible there might be soot/carbon build up on the glow plug. That could cause it to pull more power. Also the exhaust pipe needs to point downward so you don’t get fumes and condensation forming inside

Hi. I have same setup as yours. 5kw Vevor diesel heater and 2 small capacity battery. My Jackery 300 works fine but my Energizer Arc3 (300) does not. Therefore I bought a AC to DC adapter (make sure it is 120W). I can use AC outlet of either power station to run diesel heater easily. Just thought to share it with you.

That's right when everything fails on camping it's the skill to survive the cold that matters at the end of the day.. And a one called COFFEE ☕ and a 🐕. DIESEL heaters are amazing still.
I am watching you driving a 4x4 GMC with a pop up camper tent there is a pull out that mounts on a rack after the tent is set up you can. Now pull out the weather proof rain fly with poles it will cover 3/4 of your truck tail gate with Velcro and a inflatable balloon that slides under the truck to block any wind. Once it's full set up you will be warmer and above all dry.

It's because many of the portable power station manufacturers lie about the true amperage coming out of that 12v input. The heater needs 10-12 amps. The battery box is likely only putting out 8 amps despite it labled more than that above the 12v output on the unit.

Guess you could charge the power bank(s) with a couple of batteries in series. My Yeti 1500x can be charged with 14-50VDC/600W. Not the 2kW it can output (AC), but still.
also....the current draw when starting the heater and heating the glow plug puts you somewhere around 120 watts. I've tested in several temperatures and it was always in the 120 watt range. The "40 watt" on the box is bullisht. You might get a pretty bad sag in voltage when trying to start the heater on a battery pack that's not fully charged or too small.
It would definitely be cozy in a tent at -10 or -20 with a heat source running, and firelight provides a great ambience. Do you prefer heat produced by a wood fire? For me it feels like it penetrates right to my bone marrow, whereas air blown heat seems to be less penetrating.
Stoves are more cozy, but youre up a lot tending through the night.

So yes the 12 volt outlet is regulated at 13.2 volts but circuitry takes power to keep it there. With the battery being so small and at such a low battery AND your pulling 11 amps, this will happen. It just can't keep the voltage up enough for long enough to keep the glow plug heated for start up this why you can run it down to zero like you said AFTER it's already started. The fan and fuel pump doesn't take that much power to run. Basically the voltage sag upon start up is to much for the circuitry to keep up with it at 17%. Charge it up and try it again, if at that point it still does it call bluetti cause there's a problem. It don't think this will happen with your bigger battery's because there's enough battery there to account for the voltage sag at start up. Hope this helps!

Seems like I saw a video talking about some of these power stations when they start getting low they will dial back volts to keep watts up. If that is the case, it makes sense that the heater will cut off and give an error code.
the vevor manual says you have to point your exhaust downwards. water may condense inside. and it does have a way out if you point it upwards.....

Just use the AC plug with a 250 watt dc to ac converter. The cigarette lighter outlet is only rated at 10 amps, that's why it kicks out

I think if you put your battery packs up high they will work better for you in the warmer air up high

You can buy a selinod to hook your deep cycle battery to your truck system and it will charge it while you drive and separate from truck battery when your parked so you don't kill the starting battery for your Truck. Options many out there

@@Lonewolfwildcamping my Class C RV has the batteries hooked up that way. Just bought it used and not sure where that selinod is located but would be great for your Van conversion to be charging the deep cycle while you Drive and then it seperates the batteries when ignition is off.
The Iron Phosphate battery is a better, longer life battery than the Lithium. But there is a trade off... cold/freezing weather is its kryptonite. Not sure if it hinders it during use, but charging at low temps is suppose to be very bad. (Im not speaking from experience, just what I remember from my research)
I recently read the same. That LiFePO4 batteries can have up to a 3,000 to 5,000 discharge cycle life, compared to regular LiON batteries around 500 to 1,000 (I think). Plus apparently LiFePO4 is a safer battery chemistry, not subject to malfunctional failures such as setting on fire and such.
Perhaps the battery will run the heater fine right up until the battery is fully discharged but doesn't supply enough output to start the diesel heater when the battery is below a certain percentage... just a random guess.

I new Subsciber to your truck coming two day then the Hammock that tent cool. My Diesel heater wont start if the battery get to 9 volt well will run but can't start at 9 volts it's take alot of power to start. Also I use a 12 volt 100 amp hr battery with out charging if that batter drops to 9.6 volts it can't start the heater.

A quick question for you. I have a cement patio bigger than my kitchen. Would I be able to use a wood stove on the patio at all? I find that if we lose lights again may set up a tent and get a small stove if that's the case.

Just use a 110v to 12v 15amp converter. The 12 volt port on the battery doesn’t have enough power for start up of the heater. I guarantee this will fix your problem

Have you ever used an ECOFLOW Portable Power Station? I just bought two during Amazon Black Friday sale, but they haven't arrived yet. They seem to be rated higher than some of the brands. It was difficult to decide when compared to the Jackery.
Wondering what guage wire you used on the LiFePO battery. It looks rather small; however, it was only pulling around 4 amps after starting up. The furnace in my tow behind camper has broken, and I am considering a small diesel heater as they are portable and dependable.
As you know, you can use the 12V battery to do everything the power stations will, but you would need a box as big at the battery for all the accessories you would need to do it, and all together would probably weigh even more than the power stations.
My wife and I both carry a sleeping bag in our vehicles all winter, you can have issues even if just going to work or to the store.
Absolutely, especially in snowny States. I always had Dads old army blanket & another blanket in my car. Had my husband keep his old boyscout days sleeping bag with him as he traveled further to work.
I believe it would be good to let folks know that a special Solar controller is needed for the Lithium batteries also. I'm sure somehas mentioned it in the comments already.

You should contact Bluetti and ask them what's the problem. Whit a separate battery you can plug a small inverter to use ac for accessoires for a cheaper price. Thank's for the review. Excuse my english is not perfect.

I would imagine elevation would effect the fuel combustible of the heater at some point but I'm not too sure

This makes a lot of sense, it didnt seem right spening 1800 CAD or so on a $150 diesel heater, especially it's build itself is simple. Going to get the same combo. Also is there a fuse between the heater and battery? I see one on mine, should be ok right? Theres another 15amp fuse within the cigarette lighter one, but I'll be removing it.
What are the differences in recharging the units?? can you recharge the battery in the same way you do the battery packs? How long to recharge each ?
They are all different
The EB3A does kinda lack in power and capacity.
power units are for the inverter 110/240v. 12v setup for simplicity and bang for your buck.

Depends on the battery, about 1500 watts input

I think there is a setting for higher discharge voltage, even though the unit should handle the heater.

Jeremy, a few comments. I suspect the small power station just had to low of a charge to maintain the output, keep in mind the dc to dc converter that supplies the lighter plug also consumes some power to operate. Your comparison of amp hours is not valid because the batteries are different voltages. The jackery has a 43.2 volt 50 amp hour battery or 2160 watt hours, the 100 amp battery has 1280 watt hours, about half the capacity of the jackery. Watts is volts x amps. So if you want to do a comparison of amp hours divide 2160 by 12.8.12.8 volts is the nominal voltage of a lifepo4 battery. So in 12 volt terms the jackery is 168.75 amp hours. It would be best to run 12 volt items of the battery rather than a power station because you don't have the converter loss so it more efficient. Do not try and jump your engine with that battery, at best the BMS will shut down at 100 amps but you could damage the BMS. Your engine will draw more than 100 amps when cranking. Lifepo4 batteries are not meant to start engines. Hope this helps.
Boosting or using Lithium Batteries to start vehicles is not recommended. Also simple shunt attached to that Ampere and cheap battery monitor will give you a real good idea how long the battery will run the diesel heater. Using voltage especially measuring during a load is not good way to calculate the reserve.

The blue eddie will work it need to be fully charged it needs 9.6 volt to start the Heater It will work if it fully charged.

Limiting factor is 10amp cigarette lighter plug... Heater starting amperage 11-12amps... Preheat with car plug or straight from battery terminals for 10 min and after that run with solar generators... Doesn't matter how big solar generator is it's still 10amp cigarette plug, I guess because it's required to pass inspection... Limit diesel heater startup to 10amps would solve all problems and confusions...
