  • So you wanna to install YOUR OWN ground sprinklers (or maybe not)? In this video I install the first part of my very own in-ground sprinkler system using the Orbit 2 zone in-ground sprinkler kit! NOT A HOW TO!!!! This video is here to give you ideas of what to expect, and for entertainment purposes!
To move this along I only BREIFLY go over what's inside the box. If you want to know EXACTLY what's in the box you can click the link down below to view the product!
To say this is one of the hardest/most time consuming DIY projects, would be a pretty accurate statement. This project was insanely time consuming, but fun! This kit came with all of the tools you need (other than a shovel of course) it was literally a matter of measuring it all, cutting the pipe and placing your sprinklers. Then of course burying it all... Which as expected was THE MOST time consuming part. So over the course of 6 days I show you the installation of zone 1 on my system!
What I like about these systems is you can absolutely modify it to work how you would like. It's very easy to retrofit different parts to an in-ground sprinkler system. For instance I increase the pipe size off the timer in a later video. But I will be taking that timer out of the system, and adding 24volt valves instead for the 2023 season. Like I said, very easy to retrofit and make upgrades once you get the hang of it!
Now why did I make the line one big loop? WELL.... Although it might sound stupid, or crazy, or unnecessary. When I was originally laying this out I was wondering how on earth water was going to get evenly distributed with the way I put the heads out and the location of the spigot. The middle head in the back of the zone (which isn't on camera all too much) was going to get the back end of the line from either side. And because I saw someone else make theirs a massive loop I decided to give it a try on this zone because of the odd placement of everything. To my surprise it works (as you can see). AND NO! I DO NOT need the drain valves because I blow the system out with my air compressor at the end of the season. You ONLY need drain valves if you do not have the equipment to blow it out! Anyways... Water leaves the T and heads in either direction, meeting in the middle at the far center sprinkler head.
No Teflon tape on the heads? Correct! You are not by any means required to use Teflon tape on the sprinkler head, to fitting connection (some manufacturers do recommend it), but for those who might want to use it (I did on the zone 2 install) It was worth mentioning that just because it says don't use pipe dope, It doesn't mean you can't use Teflon tape. Because I have seen some people asking that question, so again worth mentioning.
No backflow preventer? correct! At least not in this video. I don't drink the tap water as it's already terrible in my town. But for the 2023 season a backflow preventer is going to be added.
But anyways... I hope you all enjoy! I spent HOURS not only putting this system in, but also a full month editing this video (on and off of course), so a like would be really appreciated!
Thanks again everyone! If your interested, be on the lookout for part 2 and 3! Part 2 will be a video of the installation of zone 2, and part 3 will be me increasing the pipe size out of the timer, and adding in my PVC splitter!
