The lyrics to this song are off the charts. There's ten songs from Rush that are more popular than this (or more) and this to me qualifies as one of the best songs ever recorded. What an amazing trio
Recorded at the iconic Le Studio in Morin Heights. Such a shame to hear of the loss of such a great studio but, the classic music lives on that was recorded there. Some of Rush’ best work. Thinking Man’s Music.
This is a prime example of just how unique and unconventional Rush was. The sing changes tempo all over the place, changes genre a few times, and is superior to all else. We live in the best reality, that we got to hear Rush.
YES... This is a classic p-funk/ska/reggae-rock song YES... Tom Sawyer is a rap song YES... Sometimes our circuits get shorted,
By external interference
Signals get crossed -
And the balance distorted
By internal incoherence
A tired mind become a shape-shifter
Everybody need a mood lifter
Everybody need reverse polarity
Everybody got mixed feelings
About the function and the form.
Everybody got to deviate
From the norm
An ounce of perception -
A pound of obscure
Process information
At half speed
Pause:
Rewind - replay -
Warm memory chip
Random-sample -
Hold the one you need
Leave out the fiction
The fact is;
This friction
Will only be worn by persistence
Leave out conditions
Courageous convictions
Will drag the dream into existence
A tired mind become a shape-shifter
Everybody need a soft filter
Everybody need reverse polarity
Everybody got mixed feelings
About the function and the form
Everybody got to elevate
From the norm…"
Thanks, there is understanding here.
I have the same Expos hat..."Cooperstown" collection~Miss you Neil............
Listening back years later and you can really recognize they were dipping their toes in the same reggae pool as the Police. Cool sound.
RUSH was jamming way before the Police.
RIP Neil Ellwood Peart OC... A man who truly elevated from the norm.
The best band in the Galaxy they're music is still travelling to other multiverses .....as we speak, the music of "RUSH" will NEVER DIE 🎉
U bettt🎉
@@MaudeWhite-yc6ji AMEN TO THAT BROTHER 🙏🏻
love the expos hat neil's wearing !
There is only one rush, I started listening to them in 1977 all the way to the end of Neil Peart’s life I will listen to them until the day I die. The day of his death I literally cried this man was a tremendous drummer and not even a drummer I call him more of a percussionist, may he rest in peace and maybe someday I’ll get to meet them in the big stage in the sky. 🤘🏼
I cried that day also, George. Been listening since I was 8 or 9. First
Neil's lyrics were incredible!
I too, started in ‘80. Saw 15 times and listened til day he died… now reminisce.
They’ve been my favorite since the first day, first song, first time I heard them, and that will never change.
Hey man, I feel ya.
wow. i also say percussionist instead of drummer. never heard anyone else say that. songwriter also.
This is a *criminally* underrated jam, one of my favorites by Rush for sureeeeee
I remember seeing this video on MTV..... Back when the "M" stood for "Music"
@Psyche In modern MTV "M" stands for "trash"
Psyche it’s a joke. mtv used to actually be something. you can’t even name one good thing about it now.
Moronic nowadays
One of my favorite rush songs!
Great music ,great musicians Rush Forever 🤩
Masterpiece. 🫶
Very underrated
WE ARE GETTING OUT OF EARTH ISLAND WIT THIS ONE
Everybody got mixed feeling's!!!! RIP Professor!!!!
This is still far more progressive than any modern music made by all the machinery
I love Rush and early 80s rock.
Congratulations on 1 million views!
Moving pictures is my desert 🏜 island 🏝
Release! Love y’all all so much
FOUND THIS ANSWER,
If any of you happened to see the video that we made for "Vital Signs," you may have noticed the great lump of metal that was growing out of my chest. That was the PZM. In the reprise of the song introduction, beginning at the second half of the track, I used an unusual two-handed ride.
Moving Pictures, the gift that keeps on giving.
This song was the first Rush song I ever sat down and listened to.
I was 16.
Been a diehard fan ever since.
As a non-RUSH fan when MP came out, this was the song that caught my attention as well. The rapid Baba O'Riley-esque synth riff is what did it.
Moving Pictures was their first album I was introduced to - thanks to my Dad. For me though, Red Barchetta was and continues to be my fave track 🏎
Man mine was All the World's a Stage check that out haaaa bad ass that's what that is
This was the first Rush song I ever heard. I was 8
I knew good music when I heard it even then
An underrated Rush song and one of my favs. Love Geddy's bass in chorus part.
yeaaah! i love the work on drums... love that song!
One of their Best to Date!!!!.. 👍👍
Epic space reggae!
Yeah
enough with those underrated comment .
you want ratting something ,just rat it.
Greetings students!
ROCK 101-RUSH
Yes! Put your ears to the speakers and Turn it up!
The lyrics to this song are off the charts. There's ten songs from Rush that are more popular than this (or more) and this to me qualifies as one of the best songs ever recorded. What an amazing trio
Agreed the lyrics are mind blowing!
Alex Lifeson fez O riff fodástico! Reggae by Rush! Abraços de um fã brasileiro 💚🇧🇷💛 🤗
RIP Mr Neil Peart. This song transcends everything current.
RUSH IS
MEGA COOL
Rush, Led Zeppelin and the Doors.
Released 40 years ago today.
Wow, I'm old.
My first concert, RUSH March 11th 1981 Indianapolis.
"We'll drag this dream into existence..." Wow. Awesome lyrics.
Still relevant in 2024. Timeless classics
You, Neil Peart, inspired a nation of drummers! RIP Professor.
We live in the best reality, that we got to hear Rush.
simply one of their best.
Lyrics and music.
I sing this song spontaneously in 2024 first heard it in ‘83.
always a favorite of mine to hear live.
YES... This is a classic p-funk/ska/reggae-rock song
YES... Tom Sawyer is a rap song
YES... Rush became a dotted line after Permanent Waves, but Moving Pictures, Distant Early Warning and Power Windows had some gems...
AND YES... Rush is Heavy Metal..... as well as prog and just bare bones rock!!
Thank You...
I couldn't agree more with you!!!!
This is strangely funky, deep and moving. It's indescribable. It's Rush.
its kinda hard to believe this song isn't even in their greatest hits album its so good.
RIP Neil Peart. 1955 - 2020. You will live on through the musical achievement of Rush.
He will always be talked about
I don't care what people say about rush all I know is ther music will blow your mind

Insanely hard song to play on bass! The changeups are out reach for most of us mortals !!
RIP Professor....the greatest ever. Vital Signs an underrated but phenomenal song. Great all the way through but from 3:05 on, pure magic.
pure magic indeed. shout out to ged that bass fill gives me goosebumps everytime, especially the time machine tour version
Greatest rock moment of my life was waking up in the middle of the night, like 3am turn on mtv and see this video on. The feeling this song and video gave me, I'll never forget it. I bought Moving Pictures on cassette because of that night, my first of every Rush album ever.
I'm 52 years old black guy I remember watching MTV just to catch Rush videos... Now I shed tears wishing I could go back!...The 80's was different for hip-hop and Rock coming out of the 70's!
This song is more relevant now than when I first heard it in..81..everybody got mixed feelings, etc…got to elevate from the norm…prophetic.
Neil is a outstanding musician, to include Geddy and Alex.
