I'm a 57 year old black man and Rush was the inspiration I had to become a Computer Tech when no one thought possible!
You’ve got great taste!
It doesn't matter what age or pigment of your skin. Rush is for everyone. And I'm happy that they inspired you to reach for a better life.Take care and keep rocking out!
Love your comment!
Doesn’t matter man..rush is the example geddy is jews, lifeson serbian, peart canadian..😂 music is for everyone..
I was Too! Even though I didn't make it Because I had the Potential to get Corpal Tunnel Syndrome and Bad Migraine Head Aches.
I'm so glad this band actually existed and that we can all witness their genius
Rush's sense of rhythm and timing is unmatched. They jump from 4/4 to 3/2 to 2/1 like flicking a light switch.
Ha! Yeah but makes it hard to slow dance to! Grin! Dont get me wrong. I'm a fan from way back!
yeah if you know and appreciate real music it’s fantastic
2/1? What note is represented by the "1", here? A whole note, maybe? If there are 2 beats per measure, why would the whole note be chosen to represent one beat if a "whole" note is typically good for a "whole" measure. I don't believe I've ever seen a 2/1 time signature. There are better ways to denote whatever "2/1" is trying to accomplish.
They don't makeum like this anymore. 😊
@@utubeiswatchingme I understand what he meant. So maybe he doesn't know time signature, but I did understand what he meant, and he does know good music.😃
It’s absolutely amazing that only three guys created that sound. Their talent is off the charts.
Well ... sure ... with lots of overdubs.
" I never wanted to be famous. I wanted to be good."- Neil Peart
The working man’s creed.
Good? Modesty shows through so much, especially when one is "great" and not just "good" - terms of the level of musicianship, performance, presence, and...percussion. Damn! The big world of rock-n-roll will never be the same without the likes of The Professor...and the band Rush will probably never "be" again. Too bad - three of the very best at what they did, individually and as a group. RIP, Neil Peart - if today's "Modern Drummer" could just know "80 percent solution" of what you accomplished as the "tempo-maker" (and then-some), they'd be an instant success!
Legend
There's so much of Neil's approach to life in just those 11 words. An amazing song from 3 fabulous musicians and, by all accounts, 3 fabulous men.
awesome
RIP Neil Peart. Genuinely upset at his passing.
Sad day for sure! RIP Neil.

@@wealthactuallywfrazerrice1873 the best in my opinion

Geddy Lee never fails to impress with his ability to sing and play bass at the same time. Both are crazy complex and often in total conflict with each other. More talent in this 3 piece than most 5 and 6 member bands.
Exactly
I covered this song in my band (power trio) as the bassist, lead singer and keyboard guy, the bridge/solo is the hardest to do, multiple time signature changes, very hard!
@@briantap2068 my respect for that
Rush has such a Unique Style of Playing their instruments. High Singing, Alex Lifeson on Guitar, Bass, and Neil Peart Playing his Drumset. Rest in Peace Neil. That's a Shame He was Struggling with Some Kind of Brain Cancer. A Very Talented 3 piece Band.
Might be the best bridge of any pop/progressive/rock song ever.

Rest in peace Neil Peart. The world just lost the best drummer. 😭😭😭

Rush is the only concert where people will air drum instead of guitar. Timeless song.
Fly high Peart
That's true, I don't even play drums myself but I like to air drum to Prime Mover, especially to the grand intro.
I never had the chance to see them. By the time I got into Rush their concert tickets were $200+
I never thought of it................ but yeah !!
"Fly by night"
And sing a long to instrumentals
I think this could arguably be one of the best songs of all time. It’s absolutely flawless.

Alex Lifeson is possibly the most underrated guitarist
Easily one of the best guitar leads ever
"Possibly" leaves room for debate.
The first time I heard "La Villa Strangiato" I heard hints of the signature sounds of over a dozen guitarists that are better known to the mainstream world than Alex, most of whom made it big after "Hemispheres" was released. It's easy to forget just how long Rush's recording career is. These guys were contemporaries of everyone from Led Zeppelin to The Foo Fighters. Rock fans follow the big names. The big names follow Alex.
Most great guitarists would have him in their top 10.

It Jams forever man !!!!!
I was a junior in high school when Moving Pictures was released in early '81 and wore the grooves off of the record. It sounds just as fresh today as it did then.
So true It touched my soul genius stuff!!
The lyrics of this song are just so personal and powerful. Neil really was a shy person, but a musical genius.
He said it gave him the creeps when someone was starstruck by him. When the other two did meet and greets, Peart never went.
What about Tom Sawyer being a modern icon type?
Telling of the Lying Times and Orwellian strangeness of today, there's Witch Hunt:
The night is black without a moon, the air is thick and still
The vigilantes gather on the lonely torchlit hill
Features distorted in the flickering light, faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night, the mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right, confident their ways are best
Oh-oh-oh No
The righteous rise with burning eyes of hatred and ill will
Madmen fed on fear and lies, to beat and burn and kill
They say there are strangers who threaten us, our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous in our theaters and bookstore shelves
Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves
Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand
I just watched part of Geddy's book and an interview about what this song is really about. I can understand that when you've made it in the world, there are fleas and ticks just dieing to try and latch on to what you've worked so hard for, for your own reasons.
It might sound selfish to some, but I could completely understand withdrawing from everything and everyone, not knowing who you could actually trust as your friends and who were just vermin.
And it is good to know who has your back, usually the people that saw your raw talent and helped you just so could accomplish your dream. Not actually taking from you, just sharing in the moments.
Those are the friends until the end. I believe Neil was lucky to have that friendship.
Shy? Lol...Complete BS
Let's face it. There is only one Rush and never will there be another
If I tried really hard...
GREATEST DRUMMER WHO LIVED
RIP Neil Peart. Best drummer to ever walk the earth
@honorbound12 No, but he isn't the "Best drummer to ever walk the earth" either. He's one of the best, and many of the best have stated this...including Buddy Rich who stated that he was one of the best he's ever seen or heard...and that's saying something.
Top 3 rock drummer for sure.
@@MyDyerMaker Yep...and I'll put Bonham in there and judging by your name - you would agree 😁
@honorbound12 Drumming, or all music really is subjective and very personal. Rush clearly is part of the soundtrack for many lives. The nostalgia alone elevates people's views. Having written that, and given that the man just passed away (and meant so much to so many, and inspired so many present drummers), it's not cool to degrade him here.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. NEIL
R.I.P. TO THE GREATEST DRUMMER WHO EVER LIVED. YOU WILL BE HEAVILY MISSED.

@@edstarrs2195 Neil was better then both but at that point you're splitting hairs..
They are by far the best 3 drummers to ever live...
Bonham was actually intimidated by Peart. I’m also a huge Zeppelin fan. I’ve read that Bonham instructed everyone around him to never mention Peart’s name. They were both two different styles of drummers; both at the top of their style. Peart; a more progressive, technical drummer. Bonham; an incredible power drummer.
Whoa whoa u guys forgot ginger baker pleasee.. even Neal had a interview for ginger bakers documentary saying what a influence that mad man was.
Not gonna lie; get chills when Alex's guitar comes in right before the final chorus after his solo.
The arpeggios in the chorus get me every time.
The drum fill at the end of the first chorus is what gets me.

The bassist, the guitarist ,drummer and vocalist there are 4 people bro
@@botgamingcodm5808 the bassist is the vocalist, this video shows him recording vocals and bass separately, so he’s not playing while singing
That's funny haha, yes still 3 people.
As far as that goes. I have heard from some musicians that less is more.
Especially when it comes to what sounds are coming through. One reason is because you can hear the instruments more clearly.
And it's allows the listener to keep track. I think that's somewhat accurate.
I myself like the idea of only dealing with two other people.
One may not be enough and four might be too many.

Moving pictures was an incredible album, and yes, I have a talent for stating the obvious.
That’s killer, bro! It made me chuckle though because in about 1988 or 89 I had a Toyota 4x4 that had a big ol thumpin’ box in it (like, with 12 inch subs) behind the seat. I was only 18 or 19 years old, knew it all, and nobody could tell me shit. I came to a busy intersection one sunny afternoon and couldn’t understand why nobody was going on the green light…..? “Awe, man! They all must be jamming to my killer jams,” I thought as I slowly pulled into the intersection…. Right then, a HUGE fire engine 🚒 passed maybe 6 inches in front of my front bumper.

Neil Peart wrote most of Rush's lyrics incl the words for this song and it's an expression of how discomforting he found being famous.
When his daughter Selena was killed in a car crash and then her mother Jacqueline died of cancer less than a year later, Peart quit the band and spent 2 yrs covering over 50000 miles on a solo motorcycle adventure.

Alex in an interview said after some thought that it was his favorite. It's other worldly to me and there's a certain sadness or yearning to it imo. It fits so perfectly in that perfect song.
Here on CZcams, Alex actually does a tutorial on how to play "Limelight." Gads, if we'd only had such resources back in the day!
Alex Lifeson's style is what I love to call "melodic noise," if that made any sense. lol
THE MOST UNIQUE ROCK BAND EVER IS RUSH. THEY ARE THE GOAT ROCK BAND IMO.
The ultimate example of music that will always have it's place in time
To me this is Rush at their peak. The musicianship is outstanding, and the lyrics speak of reluctant rock stars who are primarily interested in making music but have to cope with the business and have no desire to be the subjects of idol worship. Geddy's vocals are powerful but lack the shrieking heard on some of their earlier albums. Peart is in top form, and Lifeson's guitar work is actually audible and not buried under layers of synthesizers. A classic.
Completely agree. I was 12 in '84 when I first started becoming a fan and just missed that period that was their absolute best- farewell to kings thru to moving pictures. What I listened to most of all was exit stage left. Those 4 or 5 albums were right in that goldilocks zone of less screaming from Geddy, moog bass pedals to beef up or "thicken" the sound and just the right amount of guitar effects. And as you said, Alex wasn't pushed back or buried behind synths. Signals thru power windows was cold sterile and over processed for me, but I still listened to it and saw them perform it live. I never listened to any album that came after PW.
RIP Neil Peart
Pera, ele morreu?

I always get chills down my spine when I listen to Rush's Limelight. 😮❤
In the year 78,000 AD, Rush will still continue to rock.
Larry Mentle i think mankind will have destroyed our planet by then, but I echo the sentiments !!
Alan Chadband I believe you have forgotten about the Elder race assuming control before that happens.
Larry Mentle I think you mean in 2112 A.D.
Alan Chadband Doesn't matter. Rush songs will echo through the endless void of space forever.
Larry Mentle I already requested tickets from St. Peter, he said he will have them for me when I reach the pearly gates
This is my favorite song. The bass line is immaculate, the drumming sparkles, the guitar solo is among the best ever and the lyrics cut deep.
My favourite too - love the bass!
