It’s definitely a shovel hook. It’s thrown at a 45 degree angle but what’s weird is that you never see fighters throw this to the head. You see them throw it to the body to dig at the liver.

thanks for sharing that insight. someone once told me that sport-boxers can get away with raising an elbow during a punch, but when chokes & take-downs can happen then they can slip in under a raised elbow 👍

My guy. You're missing the setup. Alex steps on Jamal's foot trapping him in place to setup the his over hand shovel hook. And before that he's throwing a his left to Jamal's body to get him to bite and respond to body punches.

Those hooks are risky with the mma gloves. one wrong angle and you can break on injure your wrist. You are more protected with boxing or muay thai gloves.
