Mr. Super Fly it’s not copying it’s just the artist’s rendition of the song, if the artist has not claimed the song as their own then how the hell is that copying? They’re just covering the song with their own vocals.

This is a cover! If you want the original then go listen to the original. If you’re interested then go listen to her actual music and you will see why she sings it this way. As for the way she sings the words, if you listen to an actual interview then you will find out that this is the way she actually speaks and pronounces words. The problem is when you attempt to cover a song, you better do something amazing and especially Lauryn Hill you are going to have a very challenging time.. She definitely tried but didn't try hard enough but more then likely she had no chance and should have just chosen something she had her heart in as this is not with her heart in it, it cant be felt only sang with voice not with feeling. Good attempt but falls short.. Better then i coukd ever do but think who originally did it..

The more I listen to Jorja Smith the more I can't connect to her as an artist. She has a beautiful voice but I can't feel any emotions coming from her. Some friends were saying that and I didn't agree but now looking at the whole era, I really think she was hyped a lot based on looks. There's artist like ibeyi who sing in the most simple way but you can feel everything little word they sing.
I feel the same way. I couldn't really explain why I started to lose interest, but reading this comment made me realize what truly lacked. Especially hearing this cover. This song always hits me, tears well up, but here, nothing.

I think it's because she's covering the Fugees' version of it, not the original. Kind of like how Frank Ocean's cover of At Your Best is a cover of the Aaliyah version not the original Isley Brothers version.
