I just started school and been having less and less time for drawing, so I feel like my creativity has just completely disappeared, and its so frustrating
i hate school because they give so much hw and so much to study so i dont have time for drawing. the only thing i like about school is hanging out with my friends at recess
I feel so alienated from idea of art block since I have so many things on my to-do list, that I pray for time to do them. Like my ideas seem to never end. Instead of art-block I get like skill-block. So many ideas but suddenly your hand is like "nope" and I lose my years of practice. And usually then people say "keep drawing, one of doodles must finally turn out to be ok!" but eh, never worked for me and I just had to wait a little, so my skills come back from their holidays or whatever.
Ohh I've definitely had that problem too! And it's almost worse than not getting ideas because it's just so frustrating! But I still use some of the tips I mentioned for that; recreating my work and others and getting technical. It's a lot easier for me to draw stuff from sight and get it right rather than imagination so redrawing things that already exists helps to get my skill level back where I'm used to. Maybe it can help you too?
SemiSkimmedMin Well, I actually do drawing from my imagination rather than from references, so different things work for different people ;3 also, now when I study Media Art at university, I am forced to draw or craft something almost all the time, so my hand never goes out of practice, and also I have no choice but to create so hah. Luckily I had no skill block for months. But once I had one FOR months and it was really terrible. Hah but good all is back to me~ I guess good advice for everybody tho is "doodle a day keeps an art block away" so, even if it's ugly as hell, even if it's little doodle of a bunny or a butt, draw anything every day. Prevents from forgetting how to draw in general hah.
@@chickenstripper7755 Ah thats bad. I am in the same place and now i dont even know whether it is an eternal art block or my drawing skills have disappeared magically 😫🙄
I’ve been in a block for several years now, after dealing with an emotionally traumatizing experience. I didn’t create art for years... it was hard. Thank you for this, it really helped me!
Usually I always see the same tips out there for this particular issue, but you come up with some good different alternatives. Specially for indoor people like me. really cool video, helps a lot!!!!
SemiSkimmedMin you have no idea. My whole life my friends would always try and get me to pointless go out and walk in circles around the neighborhood. If I have a purpose then yeah, I'm more then happy to get out of the house but too often I've been made to feel like a freak for just being myself. I don't know if it's strictly an American thing or what but shaming a home body is one of the few prejudices that's still widely excepted. I'll be subscribing to you. Thanks.
My dog actually passed away the day after I worked on a project that was great in my eyes. After he passed I stayed inside layed in bed all day and just didnt want to do anything.. my family noticed but reacted badly.. which isnt motivating me either... this video helped though thank you. Just thought to share my story... mainly to vent 😂😂
With quarantine I have been struggling with my art classes at home. I don’t have my own space here so I find it hard to focus and make new ideas. I’m going to watch this and edit my response to see if this helps.. I need a new perspective or motivation to get the ball rolling.
It's an "Ask and receive "situation ... Needed this, I'm coming off a 20 year hiatus directly into a creative competition that I'm perfect for. Regardless if you empathize, I need to get this out there; my bulimic artist within was nourished well and I have hopes of feeding and exercising him to full recovery. Thanks
Yesterday I didn't feel like drawing but I also really wanted to. I started coming to the conclusion that I was being lazy and forced myself to draw something even if I didn't feel like it haha it worked!
I'm actually glad you used this format!!! I liked seeing where you live. That sounds so weird and creepy. But I think your space is adorable and it looks so cozy!
sometimes I just need to hear that other artists have these problems. I assume everyone else is so much better at art than I but really I am just as good. I simply need reminders. Thank you for making this video.
working on getting through some health issues (nothing serious) but I've let those occupy my mind instead of my art. In truth art is great therapy. This video is inspiring.
This is so perfect for me at the moment. I've been taking my art a bit more seriously now and I find that it's somewhat difficult as sort of a "baby creator" if you will, to be motivated to get up and create when there's no audience to show it to. And with all the stressors of life like trying to find a new job but craving something that I could flex and utilize my creativity, drags me down and I get myself discouraged. I'm definitely going to try these techniques in the morning!
Thank you for helping me get back inspiration in like 5 minutes 😔❤ I've been on an art block for like 5 days and it's the worst because I just want to draw but I guess I just forced myself to draw and it would come out so bad ;-; but you helped me in just a few minutes, thank you ❤❤
@@manishlakhmani7532 Surprisingly yes! I've been trying out charcoal, oil paints, gouache paints and digital art lately which has been helping heaps as I feel I have a lot to learn about using them, rather than not knowing how to progress further in style with how I was before
Due to depression and various other stuff, I haven't been able to motivate myself to get back into drawing for way too many years. However, someone did pass on a little trick which actually does help a little. It's quite odd. Get any old pen or pencil and draw the infinity symbol repeatedly (the number 8 turned on it's side). Whilst your moving your hand through the motion, and seeing the symbol darken as you do it, stare at the centre of the symbol. I find that it has a calming effect, but it also refreshes my mind a little bit and can help to clear some of those nagging thoughts.
On my 6th day of creative block and going slightly mad. Your video helped so much...even if just to not feel like I'm the only one struggling. I spent some time collaging a small poster and putting all your tips on it, as well as some of my own. Thanks for the great ideas Minnie. Now I have a lovely visual reminder as well.
I had an art block for over a year, that was my longest time. Sometimes I still get creative crisis like for two weeks or more but whenever I saw or see something new or interesting, I get creative again until it stops. Whenever I got something like this, I try to get inspiration through social media, pinterest or whatever is around me. (It even can be a mug or a piece of blanco paper.)
Best writer's block advice video on CZcams. Period. Seriously, it was refreshing to see a video like this that didn't tell me to take a breather, have a cup of tea, go to the park, draw some trees, meditate or to try "changing it up a bit" (not that there's anything wrong with these bits of advice, they're just cliché). You gave some great advice here that actually got sparks flying for me. Thank you ✌❤
These are the best tips I've heard for getting over artists block! Thank you! Most people say "suck it up and draw every day" so I'm glad you added some more perspective to that haha.
It’s almost like forgetting who you are is so spot on actually. Just lost. The constant comparing myself is so toxic and really difficult to set aside. I think I’ll try a DTIYS. That’s a great idea. Thanks Minnie. Still watching!

You are such a inspiration to me, i love you your art and style soo much. You're lately the only artist that i listen to, i'll just grab my sketchbook and put on a random video of you and i just start drawing. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the tips, Minnie. It's been a rough past couple of months for my art journey and I can absolutely relate to that feeling of losing your sense of self assurance and losing touch with yourself. But damn, you're right, when you just go back to the basics and start with something you're familiar with, it's incredible how quickly your mind will start to give inklings of ideas and new things to try. Minnie, I suffer from GAD and your videos are so useful to listen to during my mind-numbing episodes and it has sparked my urge to create. I bought myself a sketchbook and some pencils, and while at times its hard to bust through creative paralysis, watching your videos helps boost my confidence. Thanks for posting :)
I just posted a video crying out for help on how to overcome this very thing...so glad I stumbled upon this video. You have provided some great tips! I needed to see this this. TFS

Honestly I've been suffering from Artist block for the last year and I felt just like you said: 'forgetting who I am". Glad I watched you video, great tips and I'm feeling much more inspired again thank you
OMG!! I love your channel. I am so happy that I found you! While I was joyfully watching this video, I became unbelievably flabbergasted! I can’t believe there is someone else like me! I am guilty too! I can work all day long under my covers in bed. Only to move occasionally… Now; what is even worse is that directly across from my bed is the fireplace (under the TV) YEP, (LMAO) you know it… with our cold, miserable weather, I barely leave it! I look forward to watching the rest of you videos! Keep up the great work! C
Thank you! It's true when u have a block it's like forgetting who u are! Mine is starting to release and this was defenitly helping, got offered some space for exhebision trying to respond with no project going on or old material! Ah! Hope u have more fun videos. Thanx a lot, lots of love!
this was very helpful. I went through a massive art block and lost interest in art for like a year and only recently am I getting back into doing my own art so these ideas were really great, thank you!!!
I love this . I needed to hear this. A very helpful and informative video . Definitely going to try out the tips . I like the setups and filming . Continue to be artful . 😊
I also found that sorting through all my art materials, (checking what works, discovering something I haven't used in a while, etc..) really helps as well xx
Oh my goodness!! I love this video so much. So good!! So many great ideas. I have really bee struggling lately with a severe block and a vicious cycle....This really helped me. Thank you so much!!!! I think you're videos are fantastic 😁👍
I can relate so much to this video which is comforting because I always thought that it was just me who thought like that and that maybe I haven't reached that state of being a "true artist" yet which becomes discouraging and makes me not want to draw so thank you so much.
I think even the greats, even the most established artists, go through bouts of self doubt and lack of motivation or inspiration. You are definitely not alone!
Again, you are so incredibly relaxing to listen to. But also, thank you for the tips! I was recently in a month long artist's block (it was horrible) and I don't ever want to go through that again for that duration of time, so these tips really help! In fact it made me want to draw something, so I did.
I get artist block like every other month. But ive learned to cope with it and decided to upload my own artistblock tips. :) thanks for this video! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
In love with this video from beginning to end! Such an amazing job with the cutting, with using both voiceover and speaking in person, and so so so creative! Like a mini movie to watch over and over again :)
Every single piece of your words is gold! I'm going through, almost a 2-3 months of artblock, and still a little bit in the push. The reason is practicing too much the digital painting, an burn out... So i've start to buy new pens, brushes, a beautiful hard cover sketchbook, and focus only the paper. And do almost every steps what you advice in your video! :) (Pimp up my workspace is a little bit longer time :D) But thank you, after this i ever fall again into this pit of artblock will watch this video again :)
I'm so glad to know that this video has helped you and to hear that you're working through your creative block! It's really quite inspiring to hear how you've kept pushing and taken back control of your creativity :) Keep doing what you're doing!
Love how the video turned out! And these are some great tips all the way through. Especially the last one. The creative process all starts with you and I find that when I'm good head space, I'm most creative. Clearing your mind is so helpful in order to make room for new ideas! Okay now I'm inspired, gonna go sketch. :)
idk if this happens to others, but i got this creative block i'm in from drawing too much of an uninspired project. i had to animate an advertisement for my animation class, and i didn't want to at all. but i had a deadline to meet, so i had to work on it with almost all of my free time. now, i know i have to move on, since it's done, but i can't. thank you so much for this video, i think it's gonna end up helping me if i try these tips out =)
I've had art blocks everyday for a long time but suddenly feel the need to draw at night time, or really late. Since I have lots of trouble sleeping I tend to draw to keep me occupied
With the relocation bit, I realized that I have four different areas of my house I wander around when I'm trying to doodle up something new haha. I've been told that going outside and drawing your surroundings is a great idea as you mentioned, but I feel too shy to do that? Idk something I just need to get used to! Loved the video and all of your suggestions
Yeah I'm the same with drawing outside! I used to draw what I saw out the window of the bus and that was cool, you just have to be quick before the bus moves on haha
+SemiSkimmedMin haha I'm currently at my sisters home and she lives in a country kind of area, so I was brave enough to go out and sketch! No one here to watch me work besides her ☺️👍
Coming back to this video for the umpteenth time. By far the most helpful vid to help me through artist block! (Some tips even help with writers block)
wow i expected the same tips we always hear on these vids, surprisingly this video by far is a good one and you introduced some twist and new tips to the subject so thanks! While i do plan to try some of these i guess my fear or one thing i always go back to in my mind is figuring out a pose or a color palette for my character and it just overall frustrates me. I guess i just need to stop worrying about colors and do a grey type of thing or black and white/manga style idk
Thanks so much for this video! It really helped my mind get back on track…logically, you think you can “work” your way out of a block, but emotionally, it can be difficult. I appreciated all the ideas and ways in which to approach getting back on track. Again, thank you!
I just discovered your channel today, and it really got me motivated to start art again! I'd been having a real artist's block for AGESS and all your videos have really helped that. Thanksss ❤⭐
Ahhh. All of these are so helpful! Every time there is a notification that you added a new video, I get so excited! You are such an inspiration! Thank you
Just listening to you talk reduced my anxiety about my block. I LOVE faces and the human form myself but I’ve been in a funk for well over a year. It even has caused me depression. I cannot wait to utilize your advice and see what happens. I saw that Alicia Keys album!! I love painting and drawing while I listen to her!!! Thanks sweetheart..GREAT, simple, sincere video!!❤️👍🏼🤗
The 100 things to draw in 100 days is a great idea and I think one I shall be using. This video was really helpful and I like the fact that you said it was about telling yourself you have done a good job rather than being deflated. I do all the other things you said, but maybe I don't tell myself I did a good job enough. Thank you and I'd like to say we have the same desk and easel, but you are far tidier than I am..lol! Your work is lovely also, you manage to draw and paint with your soul and you know how important that is when you're an artist. x
this is such a nice comment, thank you! I really hope you can start to appreciate the work you do a lot more. Even if something doesn't turn out how you want it too, you still did a good job just by trying :) xx
Great video! Lots of really solid tips, and the more cerebral ones like 'remember who you are... take care of yourself' etc. are super important and often get left behind talking about 'life hacks'. I really like your style of video/narration overall - very chill and real. I'm not really into the generally-American style of high energy / cheesy / KABLAMO talking, so this was a nice change from that!
im so glad u made this video. im an art minor and psychology major hoping to be an art therapist one day. im glad u made this video where i can go back to it for refrence. it really made me happy :) u should start a college artist advice series.
Oh wow art therapist! Part of my sisters work is in music therapy! Such a rewarding and creative career 👍👍👍 haha I'm not sure how much advice I have for college artists since I didn't go to college 😉😉
I wish I could look back at old sketchbooks... but they been thrown away by my mom and had a art block for 4 years now, I learned that during the years my confidence been down. So I haven’t done anything 😅
I have had art block for a year and i feel like its because i like lost the "why am i doing this" i wanted to do concept art or game art but know it feels like my mind is telling me " you cant do this, even if you apply they will reject you" like why
also a tip sometimes I get artist block and I distance myself from people cause I'm frustrated but don't do that talk to your friends. sometimes a nice chat will give you inspiration. humans need some form of socializing to not feel so trapped even if your not good with crowds or going out. message friend and just get some laughs and comfort. it helps to spark that humorous creative side that you need to get out of a rut.
Really enjoyed that Minnie - exactly how I feel at the moment, doubting my abilities! I know what I used to do but man it's hard to get over that. Thank you.

I am guilty too! I can work all day long under my covers in bed. Only to move occasionally…
Now; what is even worse is that directly across from my bed is the fireplace (under the TV)
YEP, (LMAO) you know it… with our cold, miserable weather, I barely leave it!
Thanks Emily! I'm glad you're getting back into doing art!
I love this . I needed to hear this. A very helpful and informative video . Definitely going to try out the tips . I like the setups and filming . Continue to be artful . 😊
Just the aesthetic of this video inspired me 🤍
I also found that sorting through all my art materials, (checking what works, discovering something I haven't used in a while, etc..) really helps as well xx
I've had art block for about a year now, you helped thank you!!
Again, you are so incredibly relaxing to listen to. But also, thank you for the tips! I was recently in a month long artist's block (it was horrible) and I don't ever want to go through that again for that duration of time, so these tips really help! In fact it made me want to draw something, so I did.
Also ASMR art videos. Mm. I'd love that kind of content from you ~
+RandomPony9 I TOTALLY agree! Her voice is beautiful!
+Emily Artful mhm!!
I'm so glad you've got into drawing again. A month of artists block is like torture!!
I don't trust myself to put a cup of coco on the carpet 😂😂
Don’t trust me with any type of surface 😂
Screams in I just poured tea all over my phone and the crack in the screen be quaking
Yay thank you! I'm glad you like it! It was a bit of extra work but I think it was the most fun video to make overall.
These are really helpful!!! I’ve been doing most of these things without even realizing but they almost always help
:) (Pimp up my workspace is a little bit longer time :D)
But thank you, after this i ever fall again into this pit of artblock will watch this video again :)
Thank you 😊 I'm glad I got you in the mood to sketch too!
idk if this happens to others, but i got this creative block i'm in from drawing too much of an uninspired project. i had to animate an advertisement for my animation class, and i didn't want to at all. but i had a deadline to meet, so i had to work on it with almost all of my free time. now, i know i have to move on, since it's done, but i can't. thank you so much for this video, i think it's gonna end up helping me if i try these tips out =)
I've had art blocks everyday for a long time but suddenly feel the need to draw at night time, or really late. Since I have lots of trouble sleeping I tend to draw to keep me occupied
Thank you. This video really helped me get out of my artist block.
Your voice reminds me of Garnet from Steven Universe its so beautiful and calming
Edit: FYI Her voice actor is Estelle
DonnieJay omg I love Steven universe ❤️
Thanks so much for this video! It really helped my mind get back on track…logically, you think you can “work” your way out of a block, but emotionally, it can be difficult. I appreciated all the ideas and ways in which to approach getting back on track. Again, thank you!
You have such a great vibe! Much love to you!
i just went and watched 6 videos to cure my artist blocc and yours was the most helpful, thanks
I’m a huge queen fan so I shuffle play my queen playlist on Spotify and I do a drawing based off of the song I get and that usually helps me
Love the tip about changing your space up.
Thanks, I definitely spend so much time re-jigging my workspace to fit my mood. Maybe too much time haha
Thanks you so much you have no idea how much you helped me out seriously 🙏🏻💋 thanks
Great tips 👍
I just discovered your channel today, and it really got me motivated to start art again! I'd been having a real artist's block for AGESS and all your videos have really helped that. Thanksss ❤⭐
this video really helped, you definitley helped inspire a sketch :) thank you!! 💗
Quite a few of video’s like these haven’t helped for me. This one actually did! Thanks!
Ahhh. All of these are so helpful! Every time there is a notification that you added a new video, I get so excited! You are such an inspiration! Thank you
Thank you so much!
I'm so glad you found it useful 😊😊😊😊
I always listen to you while drawing haha it keeps me motivated
just searched this up because I have no ideas and then you said “hi I’m Minnie” it made me so happy because that’s my name too haha💕💕
Great tips! And I love how you edited this video, I think it's your best one yet! :D
Thank you! I think it's my favourite so far :)
SemiSkimmedMin Thank you and very true xx
question: what type of sketchbook is that i love it
I love you ❤ Thanks for all the advices!
Love this video - just found your channel :) Great tips on how to get through creative block
I’m workin on redrawing old characters from a long time ago, and it’s already starting to help me!
I'm really happy you like it David :)
ive had art block for like, A *YEAR*. thank you!!!!
Thank you for the tips . they're really helpful. I really just wrote them on my journal so I don't forget 💜💗
im so glad u made this video. im an art minor and psychology major hoping to be an art therapist one day. im glad u made this video where i can go back to it for refrence. it really made me happy :) u should start a college artist advice series.
Oh wow art therapist! Part of my sisters work is in music therapy! Such a rewarding and creative career 👍👍👍 haha I'm not sure how much advice I have for college artists since I didn't go to college 😉😉
oh gotcha! but i love ur videos its cool! ya i just wanna be in the art therapy field. where r r u from
I wish I could look back at old sketchbooks... but they been thrown away by my mom and had a art block for 4 years now, I learned that during the years my confidence been down. So I haven’t done anything 😅
I have had art block for a year and i feel like its because i like lost the "why am i doing this" i wanted to do concept art or game art but know it feels like my mind is telling me " you cant do this, even if you apply they will reject you" like why
wow it's cool you still keep casette tape!
also a tip sometimes I get artist block and I distance myself from people cause I'm frustrated but don't do that talk to your friends. sometimes a nice chat will give you inspiration. humans need some form of socializing to not feel so trapped even if your not good with crowds or going out. message friend and just get some laughs and comfort. it helps to spark that humorous creative side that you need to get out of a rut.
That's such a great tip, thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for this video!! Artists like you inspire me so much as a young artist
Really enjoyed that Minnie - exactly how I feel at the moment, doubting my abilities! I know what I used to do but man it's hard to get over that. Thank you.
I am starting with all this 'art' stuff and sometimes I feel super bad about my drawings, but this kind of videos give me a lot of inspiration, so thanks! Probably going to do some art challenges! :)
So glad you found a little inspiration, thanks for watching and good luck with your art!
This was really helpful!! Your space inspires me! Seriously, love your room!! Makes me want to go redecorate lol
Aww thank you! Decorating and diy are probably my biggest hobbies after drawing 😋😋💕
