What's especially interesting is that the Japanese people *_loved_* General MacArthur, seeing him a foreign shōgun who rebuilt their battered nation and kept their beloved Emperor on the throne, and were genuinely shocked hearing that he was forced to resign during the Korean War after suggesting nuking China to the ninth circle of Hell.
あと単純にかっこいいから
Because the Japanese are afraid one day the Chinese will take revenge of the atrocities japanese committed
I'm sure that's what they taught you in American schools.

General Douglas MacArthur listened to his experts who stated that keeping the Emperor not only alive but in power was the way to control the Land of the Rising Sun because he was and to this day still is the heart and soul of the by which every citizen lives by.

@@GuineaPigEveryday The Emperor of Japan is still a symbol that Japanese people rally behind. He may not be considered the Godlike being that he was during WW2, but he is still venerated and that may not have been the case if MacArthur hadn't made the decision he did.
My mom grew up in Japan in WW2 and during occupation . She told me the Japanese Loved Douglas MacArthur! ❤️
We didn't stop them from being Japanese. When my grandfather served in Korea, he got wounded pretty bad and convalesce in Japan. They told him he could go home or be an MP in Japan, so they let him be an MP. He said they were decent people and had good beer.
@@The_Gallowglass Yes my dad was in Japan during Korean War, on a patrol rescue boat for crashed pilots in sea of Japan in damaged planes. He collected Japanese cameras met my mom in photo store in Japan. And ❤️. Anyway Japanese food is great.
General Douglas MacArthur was called by Winston Churchhill the bravest man in WW2 as he went to Japan with no protection at all. Churchhill had assumed the Japanese could easily kill him. but MacArthur who spent years in the Philippines before WW2 thought that he understood the Oriental mind as he put it and he had nothing to fear of. And he was right.
Dad was on the airstrip that day as part of the 11th Airborne Division. He said the C-47 transports were landing every two or three minutes. He was from Ridge Farm IL, as was General Fellers, and got to know him a bit at alumni banquets in later years.
The Japanese called McArthur "Gaijin Shogun" or Foreigner Shogun.
So yeah they loved him because he brought stability to the newly conquered country.
One can say MacArthur was arrogant, a egotist, a showman, and somtimes insubordinate. However, he was an excellent general and most importantly, he understood that for the occupation to be most successful it must take Japanese culture and customs into consideration. If you have to lose a war lost it to the United States.
He had his moments as a general but the Philipines was a disaster he could have avoided, he shit the bed on that one but his landing at Inchon during the Korean War was a masterstroke and basically crushed the North.

General Douglas MacArthur arrived in Japan in August 1945, shortly after the end of World War II. His arrival marked the beginning of the Allied occupation of Japan, and he played a pivotal role in shaping the post-war reconstruction of the country.
Upon his arrival, MacArthur met with Emperor Hirohito. This meeting was significant as it symbolized the transition of power and authority in Japan. MacArthur wanted to ensure that the Emperor would cooperate with the Allied occupation and the reforms they intended to implement.
MacArthur's approach to the Emperor was crucial in shaping the post-war era in Japan. He chose to retain Emperor Hirohito on the throne but under a new constitutional framework that significantly reduced his political power. The Emperor was seen as a symbol of continuity for the Japanese people, helping to ease the transition to a democratic and demilitarized Japan.
Under MacArthur's guidance, Japan underwent a series of reforms, including the adoption of a new constitution in 1947, which established a constitutional monarchy with the Emperor as a symbolic figurehead, stripped of any political power. This constitution, often referred to as the "MacArthur Constitution," also introduced democratic principles and human rights protections.
The occupation and reforms led by General MacArthur played a vital role in transforming Japan into a peaceful and democratic nation. Emperor Hirohito continued to serve as Emperor of Japan until his death in 1989, after which he was succeeded by his son, Emperor Akihito.
His only mistake was demilitarization
The ai commenter shows his face.
@@shnitzilhazel9957 yeah, rather a transformation of Japan into "peaceful cuck old voiceless colony of the US"

Great film clip, cheers Johnny...E
He also released food and medicine to the Japanese. Supplies that had been set aside for the invasion. But never needed. But the Japanese people needed them, and MacArthur, new that, and did what needed to be done.
Although I'm aware of the impending chaos that'll occur between the Japanese Conservative Party and the Communist party that'll form after WW2 (and that one dude's assassination later that'll effectively kill the chance of Communism shitting up Japan as a result), I have to admire how General MacArthur had the chance to upend, demoralize, and destroy Japan....but instead gave them back a sense of pride and a platform to rebuild themselves (for better or worse). Japan is a superpower today because of the Japanese people who support it, but the reformation of Japan to accommodate those people who rebuilt Japan is due in part to how General MacArthur and his men CHOSE to treat them at their weakest.
History is messy and imperfect, but if you ever want an example of why understanding a culture of "your enemy" is important, THIS is what I would use. Corncob MacArthur is still admired in Japan, even to this day.
I've been visiting a building that's a concert hall and a load of bars in Osaka, which is due to close down and be demolished at the end of this year. It was built just 11 years after this! I know that one of the actors in this great, and spectacular feature played the chief engineer in the 2010 Uchuu Senkan Yamato, live action film.
The Emperor In August touched upon the Japanese Army's attemped coup to assassinate Emperor Hirohito, which had the actor who portrayed Vice Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku, as the General who opposed the coup.
Issey Ogata portrayed Emperor Hirohito in the 2006 feature The Sun, and Robert Dawson portrayed MacArthur.
Gregory Peck, MacArthur 1977, still portrayed the best as Douglas MacArthur, and is still one of the best.

The markings on the aircraft are wrong.
Remember that general Tōjō Hideki was accused of all war crimes, so the Emperor could remain in power.
The situation is... complex. Long story short, the Emperor was not entirely innocent, but he also was in no position to actually give direct "do" or "don't" orders. He couldn't even keep his admirals and generals from killing or insubordinating each other.

MacArthur this and Hirohito that, but the man who really had the greatest impact on postwar Japan was Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida.

When they were on the plane, a thought passed through my mind: It would be *LOUD AS HECK* in there.
Would've obviously ruined the scene for them to be yelling, but just a neat thing to think about. People who haven't flown in a passenger prop plane would probably never know since the age of the jet airliner has been around so long.
Being in the cockpit of the DC-4 was even more deafening. I've never flown or seen a DC-4 in real life though, so I'm not too well versed on the aircraft but I can imagine you're right. From my experiences of piloting prop planes, it really would have been very hard to hear each other.
@@jokerchrist2545 I sat in the cockpit of a Lockheed Super Constellation flying from Chicago to Kansas City. Though it wasn't "loud as heck" it still was fairly noisy, and you had to raise your voice a little to communicate. This even applied to the passenger cabin that was insulated.

It was just a foolish Fellers who caused the deaths of thousands and significatntly aided German efforts in North Africa and the Med.
