Can you react to "LOREEN - TATTOO"? She is the queen of music in Eurovision. Her winner performance 2023 was FANTASTIC!!! 😱🔥💕
Thank you so much
Please react to ichiko aoba
Minami journey begins! Her song 'Hollowness' is the next one to go to for sure!
Definitely! One of her best songs
And with the lyrics meaning
Waiting for Rain as well.
The 3 most popular Minami songs as far as I know.
Exactly what I was going to say 👍
Another vote for hollowness, then main actor, then lilac
Ado and now Minami.. This man is doin everything right! love it
💙ADO💙
Ado minami and yoasobi are gods of music production
For real. The jpop music scene is so varied and unique its amazing. also where my fellow ado fans at?
Ado, Minami, and ReoNa. This trio is my trinity, my top 3.
Ado is like Minami on steroids
I should stop underestimating J-pop. Each time I see these thumnails with a cute girl singing or anime display, I tend to assume it's some of those calm, relaxing music.
Yeah you’re right and wrong, they are def some calm music, but j pop are up beats. Unlike American pop, jpop uses real instruments, mixed with some electronic
This is closer to J-Rock than J-Pop anyway.
@@ZALHERA666I was under the impression that J-Rock is closer to what western people would call metal and J-Pop encompasses pop and "lighter" rock songs
well my playlist mostly Japanese songs. They really have many good, unique and different types of singers
@@Allupertti Nah J-rock is often farily light compared to metal, when you look at bands like AKFG and Tokyo Jihen a lot of it is more similar to older American rock than metal.
Minami was the one that gave me a crush on Japanes music and Ado made me fall in love with it. And you know what's so amazing about this song? It's the OP of an anime of an infamous manga that later on crashed and burned. But because it's just so good, everyone in the comment section of the MV just appreciates Minami and the song. None talks about the anime. It's the only immortal anime song I know that doesn't get associated with the anime from which it originated.
Just for fun I decided to just check the ratio between how many MAL users have seen the anime vs how many views the music video has and for Minami crying for rain it's about 500k MAL users vs over 200 million views on the music video... For Uchiage Hanabi it's only like 130K MAL users vs almost 600 million views on the music video lol
Well, Domestic Girlfriend was the burning trash that qe couldn't get our eyes off, and Minami gave us a reason to give it a chance.
@@gildedphoenix It was quite the opposite. DG was extremely big back then and the anime was just a there to be there, like, any big manga must have an adaptation. Trash as it was, it was the reason many got to know Minami, myself included. And for that, I'm really grateful to whoever decided to hire her to do the OP. In fact, the man who you quoted also discovered Minami because of that anime.
i watched the anime for the plot, but stayed for this song. i love them both actually, cant wait for my japan trip next month.
@@thisisakoolname9927 I'm the other way around. I picked up DG because of this song. yeah I did *not* enjoy that lol
You mentioned the breathing!!!!! For me it's one of the things in japanese music that is SO different from pretty much all western music (where breathing is usually completely deleted in post-production), and Minami specially "abuses" this in the best way possible as you mention as part of the song itself. Without the breathing, the "emotion" of the song would not be the same, it's just that "despair" sound that fits so well with the mood of the song.
Wait till he hear the guitar like screeching in Hollowness
Yeaah that's cool, I remember a yorushika song also where the vocalist clears her throat mid song lol it's awesome that they leave it in the song
@danielduarte6802 what's the title of that song?
@@barryb.benson4584
Daang, this one took me days to find. The song is called Miyakoochi
yeah.your comment here made me think about all other Japanese singers.yes many of them incorporating the breath sound in their singing and it sounds so nice and gives more feel to the songs
Everyone writes about Hollowness, but I recommend Waiting for Rain, it’s another masterpiece
Up
Go ahead so he can see
Definitely not something I would have ever listened to on my own. Now I'm super intrigued and am going to look up some more by her. Thanks for sharing Chris!
Whatever you do, don't watch the anime this was an opening for. Trust me
@@shib5267 well now I *have* to watch it. Them's the rules.
It's domestic girlfriend if you're interested in watching. Super edgy drama anime, wouldn't recommend as your first one to watch 😅
@@SkilledTadpole in this case I think this song is actually more popular than the anime. The song is great but from what I hear the anime isn't for everyone. btw this animation from the official MV isn't from anime that uses the song.
@@SkilledTadpoleanime was really bad so woudnt recommend, this song was far more popular than the anime 😅
I definitely recommend more Minami, she's my personal favorite singer
Yes fr, 4 years ago i went through a bad breakup plus tough energies in my family and struggled a lot with my emotions, not letting them out. I out of coincidence stumbled across Minami back then and i started crying for the first time after all that and listened to more of her and since then, she is not the one i listen to the most, but still my by far favorite singer. Something about her voice makes me so emotional and feel so connected to her emotions, and better connected to my own emotions through hers. It is insane what music can do...
Same here man
I was just at her concert in Malaysia yesterday and when she sang this song, the whole crowd went bonkers. And yes, she hits all these great notes live and it was awestruck
what she came to malaysia?do you have the vid performance of her?
+1 for the vid
Lol my country is behind yours, but I didn't even know Minami was there
I listened this song a lot before I discover Ado.
Another Minami song that i could recommended is Hollowness
And Ado's new song Value.
Me too , i listen to Minami's songs everyday before i discover Ado ,now im still addicted to Ado's song but my no.1 in my heart is still Minami 😂😂 hope she get a new anime ost soon ❤

I can't believe you actually reacted to this!!!! Dreams do come true
This is one of the most beautiful voices ive ever heard in my life. Wow.
What is interesting is in the bridge when you notice the intentionality of the lack/presence and placement of breaths; the lyrics are actually ”吸って ”- (sutte) to breathe in or inhale, and then ”吐いた” - (haita) to exhale or breathe out [and the repetition of these actions]. So not only are the performance and production intentional, but so are the lyrics, playing into that element as it was most likely planned the whole way through as a theme of the song, and thus used as a synchronistic rhythmic element.
maybe its not the aim of these videos, but what really impacts a lot in every minami song is the actual lyrics, and the story shes telling. "main actor" is the perfect example of this, but every song is very impactful and meaningful! hope you like them all :)
My man really needs to hear "Tot musica" from Ado. He's in for a ride
I've made the video... coming out soon!
@chrisliepe OMG I'm actually waiting ✋️
PATIENTLY WAITINGGGGG@@chrisliepe
@@chrisliepe omg you know what we need for real 😳🥺👍✨
As a huge Minami fan, i was "worried" how much a analysis of her would give in comparison as in my opinion her skills isnt as in your face as someone like Ado but Minamis voice performance was always what drew me towards her in the first place, pleasantly surprised by how much you had to say about it.
Edit: And like everyone else has been saying, Hollowness would be very much appreciated to do at some point ;)
I adore this song, it feel like a raw, primal scream of pain being ripped from her lungs and woven into something beautiful.
Hollowness by her is an absolut must!
Discovered Ado through Minami, now Im a bigger Ado fan but never could I ever forget how every Minami songs gives me chills in the spine, all vocally, musically and lyrically, Next up is Hollowness for sure, only request, KEEP THE CAPTIONS ON YA HEAR ME??
The "sequel" to this song, Waiting for Rain, is amazing too. Not as intense but the subtle build up of emotion over the course of the song sets it apart from this one.
woah dayamm didn't expect a reaction for this... this song is god-tier
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES YEEEEEEEEEES THANK YOU!!!!!!!
thank you so much for reacting to Minami!!! I'm so happy you're enjoying her voice! And thank you again for all the knowledge! I love learning more on music!
(fun fact, this and Unravel, you can switch the videos or even de instrumentals and both songs will fit, since they are powerfully similar)
You really need to check out LiSA's First Take runs. Homura and Gurenge are insane, and will continue to drive home the fact that Japanese singers are nutty.
Coming!
She is my favorite artist, alongside ADO nowadays. All of her songs are insane, but you must check out "Hollowness" :D Oh, and if you do, do it with lyrics on :D
Ps: your channel is amazing!
“Singing is so much more than just hitting notes”
~Chris Liepe
I ever wondered why i can feel these japanese Songs so much more than Most of the regular Songs.
Then I found your videos where you enthusiastically explain it and I love it
Oh gosh, I love this song. Her voice is so beautiful, her performance is awesome!!! ❤❤❤
Something to add onto the impact of this song, if you understand some japanese and how it works you realize combined with her vocal ability, this is probably one of the most artistic songs ever created. She plays with words in such a way like shes Shakespeare, the words she uses and how she sings them is absolute insanity. That song deserves the 200 mill views it has, hopefully 1 billion one day. PS the actual japanese title doesnt really translate well, the way she worded it is very poetic and strange, more like "Thirst for rain".
Minami has been such an inspiration for me, so happy to hear you get excited about her vocal expression for this song! Always learning 🙏
Another comment, the ending of this song has always made my heart feels so heavy. Like seeing an old friend after a while and see their face being tired from emotional wreck they been through, made them look mature but in a sad way. They have moved on but they didn't want to in the first place.
I find it very cool that in his section about her breathing (around 11:00) the lyrics are 吸って吐いた, “I inhaled and exhaled”
Sweet! Can we have Zutomayo or Yorushika next?
I really love their song but i don't think they're exceptional
Thank you and your suggestor for that beautiful example of different colours and techniques! Gonna steal some for myself! Seriously, such a great example of being open-minded to various "imperfections" from a classical viewpoint can truly help those of us who can't sing "properly" to overcome that shame and let expressions out and reach the hearts of listeners. Kudos to Minami-san, gotta search for her other songs❤
That’s why we love singers like Kenny Rogers or Joe Cocker.
I'd like to see your reaction on Mafumafu's cover of "hated by life itself." His voice is truly remarkable, undoubtedly spanning over 5 octaves.
He possesses a captivating and original vocal tone, skillfully conveying emotions through his songs.
An interesting fact is that he also composed a song for Ado (I highly recommend checking it out, it's called "Kokoro Tolu Na No Fukalai"). Like her, he began his career as an "utaite," a term in Japan referring to someone who does covers
omg I love Minami's songs, the production, the lyrics and Minami's singing are top tier. My favourite song is Hollowness, I listen to this song at least 1 per day and I think you would have a great time to react to it 🤗
"Main actor" or "Drop" are so beautiful too.
Thanks for reaction on Minami song! Can you do "Minami - Hollowness" reaction too? That's pretty good and interesting song I think🤔
Love to see a Minami reaction! When I first heard this song I had to check out more of Minami and she became one of my favorite artists.
the way minami incorporates her breathing into her vocals is a fairly consistent things its one of the things i love about her music. i could honestly recommend anyone of her songs but if i had to pick hollowness truly a musical masterpiece, another favourite would be her unreleased eternal blue
Im so glad you got to experience this song. It's one of my favorites. Minami is a great artist!
OMG MINAMI!!! I really like "Lilac", is one of my favorites from her! It would be great if you could cover that song too!!
I love how your whole being lights up as soon as you hear something incredible
Woot. I knew this would be a great analysis! I still think my favorite part of the song is when she says "Mo ii" right before the chorus. For reference, it's used to mean "enough!" or "that's enough!" like when something reaches a breaking point. That desperation that you mentioned really comes out I think
This is my intro to your channel and I love the "vocal reverse engineering" segments
I didn’t expect your voice to be this good
Been really liking your videos. It’s very informative and educational at the same time, and I’m learning stuff I never even knew about. I’m a songwriter but my voice isn’t that good, but I’ll try your free course!
OMG I love your voice ! ! Also I learnt a lot about vocals on this vid alone. Thank you Mr Liepe
What i love about minani is that "gasp" Sound, i heard a lot of people talking about "dont ever let people hear your breathing no matter what"
But here mimani use it and really add that emotional feeling
this is like one of my favorite songs ever im so happy you reacted to it
Oh, wow! I'm thrilled to see Minami catching your attention next! Another excellent artist, and a favorite of mine as well! (/ω\) ♡ It's great to see a professional like yourself enjoying expanding your realm of music taste! Especially into categories like these! These videos are such joy a watch!
Nice reaction!!! There are subtitles and it hits harder knowing the lyrics
I'm happy and surprise you found Minami! Great reaction and analysis video as always. I hope you give her other songs a listen especially Time Gram💙
i love minami songs. so glad you checked her out ❣️
i like the softness and airy-ness(?) of her singing then that build up to the hard-hitting parts.
One of my favourite songs.
The way the singer expresses the raw emotions of the lyrics through her singing is what makes it stand out from other music to me.
You should check out the band I The Mighty, particularly the ending of (No) Faith in Fate.
I think you'll really love the variation in the singing and he is also really good at expressing emotions like Minami.
Man, I really enjoy your videos. Seriously. You're super fun to watch as well as informative. Really appreciate the work you put in for these. Thanks! (edit: I hope you do more Minami)
Glad to see him checking out Minami. Looking forward to more of these!
I went to both Ado and Minami concert last month. its really feel difference when hearing those on a live preformance. Hope to see more form you~!
Thrilled to see you react to some Minami ! And great review as always :)
If you're looking for other great songs for her I'd recommend "Drop" ! It's my favorite of hers
Lilac from minami is the one who I most felt that breathings in a different ways and methods. Its gorgeous
About her breathing remember she is crying for the rain. For me it sounds like a person taking air when crying
Thank you for the video! You picked up all of the little nuances I was hoping for, really a great video! Like others have said, if you feel like doing more minami, hollowness and main actor are great picks. Main actor has nice register shifts. I do recommend just googling the english lyrics and following them alongside the song even though there is stuff lost in the translation.
I'm a simple man, I see Minami I like the video
i love the reaction. a lot of people just watch the video and dont really talk about the technical details about the song. Thank you for talking into more detail about your thoughts
Thank you for this reaction 😊 I really like Minami
It's so interesting to discover why this song made me so emotional through your analysis. Amazing video! My selfish recommendation would be Rokudenashi. She has a unique style that captured my attention, but I can't really pinpoint what she does with her voice to make me like her songs so much. The Flame of Love would be the song I'd recommend.
You might already know but new Ado song "value" came out yesterday and HER VOICE is astonishing. She has improved again!
Her voice control is SUPER!! Sounds like she can do whatever she wants to.
I just wanted you to listen to it asap even if you don't make a video!
He's literally suggestiŋ (in liŋuistics terms) a Stressed Rounded>Open-Rounded Glide, for example: ['ɘɵ̯](I find ðis interestiŋ). I don't understand why he overcomplicated ðis when it takes like ten words tops (and ðis way is less ambiguous).
one of the things i love about this song, and it's the reason I love how emotive minami is; the whole song is sung in the way that makes it feel like she's about to burst into tears and scream at any point throughout almost the entire song up until that last moment where it's almost like she's reached a meloncholic acceptance of the heartbreak the song is about. I adore it with all of my being, it is the most pure, raw emotion I have heard in any song my whole life. You truly FEEL her pain.
Now this is a great reaction.
Would ADORE seeing you react to Novelbright - Tsukimisou (The First Take ver.) A Japanese Male singer with an absolute fantastic vocal control and more!
As someone currently undergoing vocal lessons, watching your Ado, and now Minami, reactions has been a blast. It’s been super helpful to me as I am a big Ado fan who loves practicing using her songs! I’ll be seeing her Live in March and I CANNOT wait. The Live version of Unravel shook me to my core so seeing it live will likely be an experience!🥰
I look forward for more Minami Song!!
Personaly Main Actor is my favorite song from her
When I heard the song the first time I had to cry its so insane
Can't wait for you to get into more minami. I loved one of her recent songs "rude lose dance" I highly recommend it
Yesss Minami is sooo good, defenitely looking foward to more minami videos!
Hey Chris could you do a vocal analysis of a song from Mili? The singer Cassie is very playful when singing, i would say she is as playful as Ado but in her own way, and the lyrics are always so creative, its one of my favorite artists of all time, some songs are even written on made up leaguages haha, as for the song, i would recommend "Salt, Pepper, Birds, and the Thought Police", a very jazzy one, but they make all sorts of music. Im sure you'll love it.
Great song and analysis! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
This video just elaborated professionally and perfectly what I meant by "Minami is so fxxking good!"
I loved your reaction bro ❤
Your explanation are very good. Its good i learning something from your video
gracias por este análisis, me encanta la manera en que usted nos muestra la belleza en la voz de un artista. Pienso que la próxima canción de Minami puede ser Main Actor
I just went to her live concert last 2 weeks! She definitely sounds better in person than studio! You're right on, she sounds very pure and that is what makes her singing very attractive
Every time I've listened to this song, the image of punching a wall comes to mind since her voice will reach its "limit" but she willingly pushes further to make the crack to her voice which makes it sound a lot more emotional. Along with each sharp breath, it's all placed on purpose and well done. Versus most that sound that vocals are sung within range, she's willing to push upper limit and break it within reason. Akin to how Devin Townsend purposefully flexes his range. Least that's how I've understood it.
I went to her live in Kuala Lumpur two days ago. The show was lit! Minami and the band really perform really good in live too! Love her voice and all the song she wrote by herself.
The breathing has to do with the 'running away from problems' as we watch in the video clip. She is desperate to run away, she has had enough, she is fed up, she is crying while running away. She is using her voice like a master. The lyrics are also amazing. It is in general a masterpiece.
1 second into this video and I already clicked the like button!!! It's minami!!!!
When you see the translation of the lyrics paired with her delivery, it really sells the angst and desperation that Minami is trying to portray. Every note, every breath, every sigh is there on purpose. And it delivers.
make sure to check out her song Hollowness too! definitely an amazing showcase of her vocal ability and emotional prowess
Just saw this vid, and first vid from your channel for the for time, and I love your analysis of this song! I love Minami and the emotions she puts into each song. Like others have suggested, I highly suggest "Hollowness" as another song of hers to cover. Alot of her older songs protray so much depth of angst, loneliness, and pain in the story the song is meant to portray. Another one I suggest in "Eternal Blue" for that same reason. My personal favorite would be "Lilac" and also hihgly suggest that one as well, but for much different reasons. The song itself is very different, but it would definitely be best understood by listening to it.
On a similar wavelength to Ado and Minami, I'd suggest almost any song from TOGENASHI TOGEARI, but maybe a particular song to start with could be "Piercing the dawn of time".
It's been 5 years since I first heard this song, but still have special place in my memory
"I dont understand the words, but (...) wow"
He gets it!!!
If youre interested in a male Japanese vocalist, Promise Me by Tatsuya Kitani is a super powerful song
You have to watch the opening of One Piece. I am sure that, as a vocal analyst, this work with its openings (of which there are 26 as of today) will definitely give you content for discussion as well as pleasant emotions as you listen)
If you liked this one, I'd highly suggest to listen to Hollowness (with subtitles preferably but not necessary), it's my personal favorite from Minami ^^
Yo aun espero un cover hecho por ado❤
Minami, Ado and Aimer are my top 3 japanese singers.
Minami the Goat
As someone who doesnt sing well, I just like how raw and passionate her voice sounds in this song. It coveys the frustration in the lyrics really well. Every time I hear this song it makes me want to cry for her like "Who hurt you"
I learn so much with your videos! I think you will love Rude Loose Dance by her too!!
i love when vocal teacher or analysis or whatever react to minami songs, i'ts just give me more enthusiasm
Such an amazing analysis of Minami, I really learned something. It's time to bring a umbrella I guess... Or maybe a hollow...ness?
Man your voice reminds me of the singer of either smash into pieces or housed foot crunch.
the thing i love about minami is she's never hold back his voice or breath in her song, you can hear she's squeling when she's about to take a breath.
that's makes minami so emotional in every song
I LOVE THESE SSO MUCCCHH YOUR REACTIONS ARE SO INTERESTING!!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing you react to Kaikai Kitan one day
and yes, the singer who sings Kaikai Kitan can pull it out live. I've bought recordings
I'm so interested in how he uses his voice. I can probably almost understand how he uses the mixed voice in his recent songs, and can sound somewhat same, but his older songs really sound like he's yelling sometimes. I wonder if it's healthy, and if that's the reason why his voice changed over the years
