Mount your GoPro to one of your lines to see how the squid bite. You can even weigh the camera case down to make it neutral in the water, so it won't interfere with your bait or will not float on top of the water. If the water is that clear on a sunny day, you should have plenty of light to see at 10m to 15m [maybe even deeper]. Most GoPro type cameras are good to 40m.
the fact that you brought the good ol' aussie woolworths 15c bag is hilarious. Squid is very delicious. In S.Korea, we have great squid dishes like, squid soup (spicy, beetroot, squid), boiled squid with dips, deep-fried squid (normal breadcrumb batter), dried squid cooked over stove-fire, spicy stir-fried squid with white rice. And squid tastes great when it's cooked over charcoal. SO DELICIOUS!!!
Australia is an aquarium, catching your squids, lobsters, spanish or flathead is so easy, there's no real challenge compared to any other country in this world. You have dolphins entering most rivers at high tide, you can see huge crocs passing by you when fishing in knee deep water, watching a gorgeous sunset with your GF and see a humpback whale jumping.....OZ is so wild....... Would love to go back... I love your country, guys !!! And the last squid you're showing is a horse, congrats, mate !!!!
Oh nice you have a Hobie Compass... I just bought one and installed my mods (rectangular hatch, moved round one to the front, added anchor trolley and installed fishfinder) but now have to wait 9 more weeks to use it because everything is frozen here but in March I'm taking it to Florida. The wait is killing me!
Congrats on the new hobie and what a way to christen it... That is a monster. All the Tiger squid I have ever caught up here in QLD have been tiny compared to that. Would love to experience catching a squid that big.
Yay!! A new squid video! Kayak opens so many more opportunities for chasing squid. Can get away from high pressured area wharves etc. thanks bro good stuff
Oh my gosh, those squid are MASSIVE! Squid fishing is so much fun. Most of the squid we get in Seattle, Washington, USA are tiny in comparison to yours though. We definitely don't need nets to land them lol. What a fun video!
Mega indeed! Never catch a squid since the very beginning I learn fishing, I don't know where to hunt them haha! poor me! shoutout to the next video from the Philippines :)
ive never quid fished before, did thoes change color between bringing them into the boat and when they went in the bag? is that a camo thing they have or is it from dieing?
If you go flick some plastics off that little jetty next to the boat ramp there’s something smashing all of my plastics but no hook ups, maybe you might have some better luck
If I was you I’d be putting so many hours into Westernport right now, surely you would have to be one of only a few people out there fishing. Some absolute monster squid and Snapper🐟 up for grabs atm and only going to get better. Another great video such an awesome kayak set up, i’m sure you’re very quickly going to smash all your PB’s ;)
Bloody hell Nev keep teaching me lol. A mate has lent me his kayak and i need to know of some good places over this side to launch and chase squid. Any help would be awesome!!!! yeeewww.
So glad I found your videos. Great Kayak. I have a Vanhunks in South Africa. Just subscribed...your doing well with your videos.....keep up the dedication....I know its tough
Great squid & video, just an observation, more people fall out of a kayak by reaching around behind them, then any other way. Better off having the rods next to or in front of you.
@@NevsFishing Nev, I've been fishing from Hobies for over a dozen years (and I work at SLH) and while Pete is kind of right in saying what he did (capsizes have resulted from fumbling around in the back) this is far far more likely to happen on a less stable kayak, with an older, taller/heavier user with a fading sense of balance. There are those among us that prefer to have everything stored up back as well. A clean deck is a good, easy to fish from deck in my book, which is why I keep all my rods, including the ones in storage and the ones I am actively fishing with behind me. Scott takes a completely different approach to me, he's OK with a busy deck and I know Pete likes it that way as well. Most do. Kayak fishing is very much an individual sport and finding what works for you is all a part of the journey. We all fish in different ways, in different locations, most of us from different yaks. Through trial, error and experimentation you'll figure out your yak fishing game and it will happen fast... but you'll never stop learning. There is no right or wrong way when it comes to a lot of these things. Either way, you're off to a ripper start. We gotta get you sorted with a better camera boom though :-) Nice vid mate, and nice squid!
@@yakabout Thanks heaps for the extra insight Josh, it certainly seems that what works best is whatever works for you when it comes to yak fishing. Super excited to start doing more trips and to figure out a setup that works for me and obviously catch some good fish along the road! I certainly appreciate how much you boys have helped me out with your knowledge, cheers mate and glad you enjoyed!
Nice video and some very nice squid there Nev. I stumbled upon this by chance and wasn't sure where in the world you were... but it looks remarkably like where I fish for squid around the Solent in the UK - sadly to say, I don't think I can beat your PB though. Tight lines!
Hey Nev - I have just started squid fishing and really enjoy it. Question for you - how do you stop the squids from squirting ink everywhere?? I am fishing from our boat and we have teak decks and therefore don't want squid ink on the deck! But the squids i catch shoot ink out like crazy! The last time i was squid fishing was in the northern islands of the Maldives in May. We are sailing around the world and got stuck there for 4 months with the covid crisis. We are now in the Seychelles and I have seen some giant squids hanging out under our dinghy so keen to put the jig out. But worried that these monsters will have more ink and will completely blacken our teak decks! Appreciate your input and thanks for your vids they are fun, funny and informative :-)
Thank you for the kind words mate! I honestly don't think there is a way to stop squid from inking in your boat, I've been trying to figure it out for years hahah. The one thing I might suggest is net them over the side of the boat then bring a bag or something over the side and chuck them in that quickly!
great vid as always nev, i have a holiday house right near where you fished so can't wait to get down to Philly once lockdown is over. Loving every vid mate
Hi nev have you have any issues with your railblaza hd mount sliding not locking into position my one just keeps sliding I've tighten the screws no luck 😨
@@NevsFishing yes I have the compass camo one, my local dealer told me to put grease or silicoke around the rubber seal and push down firmly on the lid it didn't work so I ended up taking the whole thing in for them to look at it.
I don’t understand why you haven’t blown up on CZcams you an Giddo’s land based fishing are my two favourite fishing channels
Hay watch a Catch awesome, I love squid fishing as well.
I would love to get a kayak like yours too one day .
Mega squid? More like mega kraken Nev! Great to see a squiding video after so long :)
hahah, feels good to be back chasing squid! Glad you enjoyed mate!

Just saw this video and enjoyed it heaps. Great squid Nev, great kayak too. Well done mate 👍🏻🇦🇺.
Thanks 👍
In South Australia we call the big squid ‘donkeys’
Those are massive squids I have a video suggestion you should go out in the Kayak and try to catch as many different types of fish off the kayak
Very nice video, your squid videos are especially great !!!

That could be something to attempt, heard of that area being very productive for jew

Left of Cowes boatramp

Busier than a one armed paper hanger! LOL!! Nev, do you eat any of these squid, or just for bait? My wife and I, just love squid.
Great master new freind here
Thanks for sharing 😁
I'm just wondering if u can hook a fish from the pilchard bait🤔🤔 or no fish will have a go at the squid hook?
I'm sure a hungry fish would have a crack at the pilchard, only issue would be if it stays on the squid jag.
