Today, we decided to have a day trip by car from Sydney to Blue Mountains. Enjoy our food and travel vlog that will be great guide for you to enjoy a weekend gateway from Sydney. First, we visited Mountain High Pies in Wentworth Falls for their award winning pies. They have won several awards in Great Aussie Pie Competition and Australia's Best Pie and Pastie Competition.
Trip to Blue Mountains will not complete without hike so we decided to check out Wentworth Falls and did the easy hike Fletcher's Lookout. For lunch, we went to Unique Patisserie which undoubtedly hidden gems in Blue Mountains. This patisserie in Katoomba is actually serving Malaysian and Asian food. If you are in Blue Mountains and wondering what to eat, try the Assam Laksa from Unique Patisserie. Other Malaysian dishes include Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang, Char Kway Teow, Chicken Laksa and Nasi Goreng. We had takeaway coffee and cinnamon croissant from Black Cockatoo Bakery which was really good as well just a shop down from Unique Patisserie.
Empress Falls is one of the hidden waterfalls in Wentworth Falls area, the walk was about 1 hour return with a lot of stairs and some steep steps but it is really worth the hike. Whilst driving back to Sydney, we had dinner at Lawson Chinese Restaurant owned by our friend Vincent from dimsimlim.

Omg finally someone noticed this gem in Katoomba! I studied at the hotel school over there and as a Malaysian and especially from Penang myself, I would say the asam laksa is very authentic. This vlog brings back a lot of memories for me!

2020 pie award winner! yum the curry pie and the chicken pie both looked really yum. Its interesting that you have to go to the country side to get good pies in Aussie. Blue mountains looks like a really nice spot especially since it is so close to Sydney. The mist makes everything more dramatic.

A bit of history. Back in the 1980’s as a child my family would regularly go to Young’s Chinese Restaurant which was in the exact shop that now houses Unique Patisserie. I recognised it from the pitched wood ceiling!

I don't mind Mountain High but I think Pie in the Sky at Bilpin or South Windsor Pies does a better job. Glenorie aren't bad either. One thing Mountain High do make that is very nice is the warm custard tart.

Great video! Have you guys tried Five Guys in Penrith? So much hype about it. I live around the corner and its always busy. Also, Brothers Burgers opened in Penrith. Its a burger joint from the Phillipines I am excited to try.
Not yet - been wanting to try Five Guys, many people complain about the price, so keen to try it🤣 Ahh never heard of Brothers Burgers, we might go Penrith for all burgers then 😊
We really appreciae when you don't have to trek so far from the car park for the view... just gotta make sure to get to those spots early to beat the crowd 😂

@@nickandhelmi Cinta Rasa is good but for the Asam Laksa (per others because I prefer the curry laksa) try Malaysia Small Chilli. I haven’t been to either since “freedom day” but have frequented both regularly before. They are at the other end of Beamish from Albees (also good but prefer Small Chilli or Cinta Rasa).
I like that 80% of the video is covering the food and 20% is your hiking 😁

The pies look amazing 😋 I love how they put chunks of meat in them! I find that most pies just have a lot of gravy and not much meat in them haha

If you are an Australian citizen, you have to turn up at a polling booth and get your name ticked off (though you do not have to actually cast a vote while you are there). You will receive a letter asking you if you can explain why you didn't vote. If you respond to the letter, most likely you will not receive the fine. They are only usually sent to people who don't even bother. Explain what happened and you won't be fined.

Those noodles look so creamy and delish. Yes, let's not start a food war. We have plenty of examples of dishes that can be claimed by 2 or more countries, sometimes it's better just to enjoy all the versions. Helmi looks so happy eating that, I just want it!

Nick, did you seek permission from Blue Mountains council for flying the drone or it's allowed? I have a mini 2 but still unsure til now if I can fly it in the mountains. Cheers.
You can fly in national park but you will need an approval if you fly it from the park itself. You can check open sky app for more info and yes you need permission from the park. Sometime i just fly from outside the national park area.
