One of my all-time favorite Golden Girls moments: “Why would she need a kidney?” “TO FEED THE CAT, ROSE!” Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, was legendary for her comic timing - whether she was exploding, or staring for what seemed like an eternity before making a sarcastic comment.

It is scary how insightful you are when you are guessing circumstances in each episode you are reacting. Like in this one, you were able to discern that not only is the sister dying, but she needs a kidney transplant! You are amazing!! I have always amazed others of how intuitive I am when watching shows by knowing how things will develop, so now I get to be at the other side being wowed by your astuteness as a viewer!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of the golden girls. I’ve been watching them since they were dropping new weekly episodes lol. I always wanted to have enough money to have a replica house. Not the furniture lol but the lay out. Best show showing female friendship another good one is Designing Women. I miss old school sitcoms. It’s a lost art.

Think this is an emotional episode, wait till you get too Season 6, Episode 12: Ebbtide's Revenge.
That one will cause immediate tears.
Something that might not be obvious from today’s standpoint is that transplants weren’t anywhere near as common then as they are today. The national transplant registry had only been established a year or two before this episode came out. So the questions and concerns Blanche expresses are the ones people at the time had. Another example of the Golden Girls tackling sensitive issues head-on, bringing awareness to important topics.
