Randeep Bhasker actually this raga was nothing but an ancient version of raag bhopali, difference is the dhaivat used in it very close to komal dhaivat, that form of bhopali was extremely difficult to sing and it has a feel of sadness..so our ancestors stopped using it. Mehdi hassan sahib has sung a Ghazal Ab k hum bichhude..based on this...we explained all that. Only Manna dey daa has managed to identify this
Well to be honest this Raag has been well known in Carnatic music since ages. It's called Vasanti or Pratiksha. You'll find many popular Malayalam film songs composed in this raag since the beginning of films. Anything that comes in film music means it is well known and taught in classical music. There is only one song I found in Hindi films with this raag. It is Chalo Chale Mitwa by AR Rahman from the movie Nayak which is copied from the original movie Mudhalvan in Tamil.
Aesthetically very beautiful & melodious raag. Therefore it is Surprising that this raag has been sung & popularised in this current form, only in last 70 years or so. Ashwiniji has , so to say, reestablished this rare melody - to its well deserved place of Pride... ( after Mehdi Hasan & Aziz Naza Qawaal....!!!).
Ye dukh ki baat hai itne Sundar raag Ko lekar sangeetkaaroN mein matbhed hai. Kaash Sab varishth sangeetkaar ek saath baithkar iss issue Ko solve karein . I think Bhoopeshwari or Bhoopkali should be the appropriate name.
I think Raag Manoranjani is also synonymous to this raag. The connoisseurs, I recommend, listen the presentation by Pt Shivraj Patil also in this raag.
