What's your favoured technique for quick bass kick hits, or is your spring tension quite tight and you are just quick?
Its just technique man the more you play the faster and more controlled your kick drum will become.
Never heard this Nirvana song before, it's got quite an Alice in Chains vibe to it (definitely a good thing!). Great playing too Colm!

LOL. A True nirvana fan listens to BLEACH. The only 100% Grunge album by them.
In bleach I think the drums are hard because there’s a lot going on in terms of the bass drum
Not really even if you consider the double bass in some songs because the phrases aren't that hard. Dave Grohl's, on the other hand, although they aren't very technical, they require a ton of stamina. Scentless Apprentice is one of his harder songs and it's a perfect song for foot training.
In my opinion, Chad Channing's style is hard to replicate because of the sloppiness it has. A good example of that is during the guitar solo from School. It sounds like everything was done on the spot and it's hard to replicate note by note.
Dave Grohl's style is much tighter, but his feeling is also hard to replicate because of the way he hits the drums. I tried to do that somewhat and got a noise complaint from an asshole neighbour and if I continued I'd probably have a cracked cymbal or two by next year or so.
@@GrayKeyboard i get what you mean, but hitting hard isnt necessarily about smashing the drums. it sounds to me like dave has good technique as it still sounds good, his toms sound incredible to me. I know ive read he wrecks hardware, but i doubt hes breaking cymbals and drum heads a lot as usually good sound = good technique. it just LOOKS like hes smashing the shit out of his drums. you get to a certain point where hitting harder wont get any more volume out of a drum and they start to sound crappy, i just focus on my stick heights (further away for louder) and stick technique to get lots of bounce. youd also end up injuring yourself hitting hard with no technique

I was going to do this but it sounded weird when i recorded it because I'm playing over the original song. Sounded messy because you could still hear the original drums in the background
