I have alopecia at the front edges of my scalp. I notice the hair there grows faster when water is added at night and a little oil to seal in. It's so frustrating that my edges continue to have periods of rapid growth, without thickness, and breaks very easily.

Double R yes this is true I want to start wearing some box braids Actually I want to protective style 4 a year just to get some growth, as mine has stunted at the mo. And when I mean 4 a year, I mean not wearing a protective style more than a maximum of 8 weeks... and then giving my hair a break 4 two weeks at least before my next protective style. But I'm going to have to pay to get it done and im to broke right now.

Browndigs69 that's the route I'm going now. I'm in the resting stage now & i henna for strength. deep condition at least 2-3 times in between. pre poo with Mayo(yuck) & olive oil. I've seen wonderful growth. I've retained the growth with wide tooth comb & dove detangler. works for me so just some tips

Girl that’s 4c lol you just have to find the routine/ moisture regimen that works for you and your porosity. Once you do, I promise you the texture/dryness will improve. Trust me lol I used to think my hair was off the charts too, hard, dry and painful to comb, but once I found what worked for me, after consistently being able to retain moisture my hair has become a lot more supple and manageable than it used to be back on the day. One thing I realized was that just because someone else is 4c doesn’t mean the same products will work exactly the same for your hair, due to differences in porosity. My hair is about 1/3 4b and 2/3 4c, my mom has a full head of 4c and what keeps her hair moisturized just doesn’t moisturize my hair and vice versa. It used to frustrate me then I realized we just have different levels of porosity. It took me so much trial and error to get my hair where it is today, as far as long lasting moisture and manageability.

God bless you too Jass. We have so much in common. Like you, I also had alepecia and lost a lot of my hair. Thank God my hair grew back but it was not until May 2016 that I decided to stop relaxing my hair. I had no idea how much th9se chemicals were damaging my scalp. If I knew half of the things I learned about hair care and watching your videos, I would of have done a lot more progress. I have done many little healthy changes for my hair thanks to your educational videos. Jass one thing about you is that you are all about educating poeple about taking care of their hair and not only about styling which is very needed. Many people get stuck on the styling but they offer very little about real natural hair care and I think we have found this with you!!!! 😉😉😉😉😉 💖💖💖💖💖💖

I have 4c hair type and u have pretty much covered all the FACTS. Especially letting people know it needs to be wet EVERYDAY it is not a joke and the most important point u made is that it needs to stay combed for a least 2 weeks at a time the longer it stays the greater the results. The only thing I would add is that Hair Mayonnaise works well for this hair type due to the protein content and taking vitamins. EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!!

YESSSS!! For the past 2-3 months I've been wetting my hair and scalp every 1-2 days and the growth I've seen is incredible. I've also been wearing my hair in a wash and go style (I do small twists in the front of my hair so when I put my wet hair up, it doesn't affect my edges), which I have come to LOVE for the ease and beauty of it. One thing about doing this, though, is that I go through A LOT of leave-in conditioner lol. But it's worth it. I love looking at my kinks and coils atop my head. It makes me thank God for making it grow out of my head like this! My hair is beautiful.
My hair is 4C. (I'm Nigerian, so my hair is at the very end of the "needs to moisturise more often to keep pliable" spectrum)
I will definitely be continuing this process

Eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise to get blood flow to your scalp
Leave it alone, don't manipulate it too much because it causes breakage
Keep it clean wash it about every week or so because if its dirty, your pores get clogged and it can't get any moisture in
And moisturise daily (LCO method, or loc if you prefer)
If you have split ends... TRIM THEM. Because it causes so much tangling and you end up losing many pieces of hair that way. You can do it yourself if you don't trust salons
And lastly you can try the inversion method. It works for almost everyone and I'm trying it as well. But you have to commit to actually see results apparently like an inch a week but you can only do it once a month so 12 extra inches if your dedicated :)
GOOD LUCK! Hope your hair starts thriving again :)

I notice that people that love their hair and are proud of it have healthier hair and more growth. Our hair textures feed on self love, forgiveness, and just positive energy. It's like a plant.

Oh my goodness!! Yes, yes and yes!! I have 4c and seems 4b on top. I could not grow hair to save my life. Moisture was the problem. Protective styling I too spray my hair with water then use a moisture rich leave in conditioner and a curl activator. Man does my hair grow fast by doing that. It seems from one twisting session to the next my hair gets longer and longer. So yes moisture and protective styling for 4c is a must!

LOL, I diagnosed mine 4z, because it is kinky and super dry. Growing up, I didnt get a relaxer until middle school and my hair was super long. So I am going back to the basics of what my mother did. I have 4 girls and their hair fell out bad with their dad, we are all natural. There hair is past their bra strap now so I will be sharing in a video how to grow kinky hair back out

My hair grows but I leave my hair out on most days, which means more trims. I feel beautiful with my hair out. I enjoy protective styling but I am lazy. I love to wash my hair when I feel like it and not worry about messing up a protective style. I rather rock my natural hair as is than add extensions or protective style. I also understand that my hair won't be as long as it should. I am good with that!

Okay, Jass...stumbled upon this video of yours. I will NEVER forget...a young woman I met who has some of the most beautiful hair seen like you and so many others...she smiled a mile wide and told me...everyday...I get in the tub and let my hair float in the water. That was many years ago...over the past few weeks, I have obsessively remembered her hair, her appreciation for the beauty of her hair, and her words. And, now I see this video. You are certainly one of my hair 'twins'...one of the first I've seen. So thank you!...for sharing and providing the final inspiration I need to continue to grow this lovely 4B/C hair of ours by watering the roots, stems and those flowery ends (that need moisture, moisture, moisture! I find leaving my hair in protective styles and not touching/manipulating my hair allows my hair to thrive. I do like the idea of standing in the shower and just allowing the water to run through your hair. I cut of all my locs recently and I have cornrow extensions. So I'm using this style to allow my hair to grow. I moisturize my scalp every night as my scalp can get very dry if I neglect it. I'm learning quite a bit from all these beautiful black women, including yourself, on how to care for our hair. Thank you for all the info.

Thank you for this video! I recently did a cut/comb out of my locs that I'd worn for almost 20 years. I needed a boost about how to grow my hair ~for so long it hadn't been an issue! Your video did the trick ~I'm working with 4c but it's possible i have a 4c side and 4b side ~there's a distinct difference in the feel of it, the thickness and the manageability. But I'm loving all of it ~I will have to start exploring protective styles, because I definitely find myself manipulating and playing in my hair all day. It just feels good and my scalp LOVES it. Also, I am one of those people who wet my hair pretty much daily ~again, for so long i didn't ~and i do agree that it has potentially affected the swiftness of the growth. Anyway, thanks again!

Everything you mentionex is very true. When I initially started learning about growing my hair, I also didnt know a lot about the importance of water in my hair. In fact I often would only put water in it every two or three weeks especially when I was relaxed. As I started learning.more water became my best friend and I threw away a lot of products. I also like that you mentioned cleaning the scalp. I use to even put products on.my scalp which I later realised was bad because the scalp just got cloged up. So I started putting products especially natural oils on the hair itself. Thanks for sharing these tips. ~

Girl, yes! I've been natural my whole life, 4a/b hair, but I was really tenderheaded so my mom kept my hair in individual braids w/out extensions. She would wash and redo them every 2 months. My hair was long compared to the other girls, but never grew past armpit length. In high school I started getting my hair pressed regularly and grew a few inches, but again it didn't keep growing because I did nothing to my hair In between salon visits, no moisturizing, washing, nada, so I had a TON of split ends. After highshool, I decided to try "going natural" and saw more growth but I struggled with damaged ends and keeping my hair moisturized from only doing it once a week. But last summer, I stopped using so many products to moisturize and just hopped in the shower every time it got dry (every 2-3 days lol) and noticed a TREMENDOUS improvement in the manageability and moisture of my hair! Honestly I was so happy I found a routine that worked that I didn't care about the length. Over the last year I fell off the wagon, as I tend to do In the colder months when it takes longer to air dry my hair In braids than overnight. But, I'm back on it! Especially since I gave my hair a bad trim lol. I find that clashing with minimal detangling works well for mid-week rinsing, and once a week I really need to cleanse my scalp and thoroughly detangle. In a nut shell, long term protective styling doesn't work for me. I need regular and frequent manipulation with water. Only problem now is getting my hair to dry overnight when it's cold lol. This post was great!

I tend to notice more growth when my hair is out and I'm washing it and moisturizing it on a dealer by daily basis because when my hair is up and protective styles, I tend to just neglected no matter how badly I want to grow my hair or you know enhance the health of it. So for me my hair receives the best outcome when it's receiving attention, daily. When I'm washing it, I mean co-washing it, moisturizing it regularly and just ensuring that it's always moisturised.

Hey Jass, I feel so blessed to have come across your videos. I suffer from alopecia as well and have the battle of regrowing my hair. Not only do I have alopecia, my hair is super thin. I was perscribed a medication from my dermatologist 2 years ago which did grow my hair in the areas that were bald along with using a mixture of natural oils, which I believe thickened my hair. I have a mixture of 4 hair, not sure which 4's and have gone natural for the 2 years. My hair grows super slow and I'm so frustrated with not knowing what to do. The end of my hair feels awful and it has tiny knots. In all the videos I've watched, I have never heard anyone say during the natural hair process, they have cut or trimmed their hair. I am in desperate need of some advice. Thank you and God bless. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Wow, I learned something new every day! I keep my hair in a protective style and moisturize, but I don't see so much growth anymore. I have all types of hair running through my head. I only have 4c on about a half of an inch in the front edge. I guess the rest would be 4b with 3C around the perimeter, except for that certain 1/2 inch spot on the edge that is 4c. Though, I used to see growth with protection, trimming edges, and moistruizing, I think the rate of growth has slowed. What do you recommend treating 4c hair with while its in a protective style. I typically spray a leave-in conditioner then apply my oil concocction to my scalp and cornrowed hair. However, when it's time to remove my weave and cornrows, I saturate my hair with oil first, then proceed to unravel my cornrows. But I still get a fair amount of breakage from my coils tangling. Is there a way to avoid this?
