If you never got to see Slade live you missed something very special, they were by far the best live band i ever saw, and believe me i have seen 100s of top bands going back to the 60s onwards, Noddy was the best front man ever.
Slade is still one of my favorite bands of all time. I saw them in the Capital Theater in 75 or 76 with Dr. Feelgood and Blue Oyster Cult. They were incredible and one of the Loudest Bands I ever heard. Noddy has one of the most powerful and unique voices ever. Why not put them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Glenn Augustyn
Noddy sounded like several people singing at once; what a great voice. Dave Hill had some really weird haircut and get-ups. Best party band of the 70's.
@@itkojecockot these days they are definitely underrated, unkown even. noone I've talked to have any clue who Slade are, but given the fact that I'm in my early 20's maybe that's not all too strange...
Love Slade, everyone loved them in the early 70's, i remember when their movie "Slade in Flame" came out, the queue outside the cinema was absolutely huge, one of the best British bands ever.
I got a Slade t-shirt in the mid '70's (through some sort of Columbia record promo... get 10 records for 10 cents or something like that) ... I loved that shirt, it fell apart, shredded, I'd sew it back together! I still have it! My wife HATES it! I will never get rid of it!!!
When everyone here in my town of West Monroe, La were going nuts over quite riot I was telling them you need to listen to the band that originally did that song. I really liked the band then, but all of a sudden out came “Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply” and they became the only band to match my favorite band Kiss at the time. That album blew me away.
One of the greatest rock bands ever, why they didn't catch on bigger here in America will remain a mystery to me forever, I know all the stories about bad luck and bad timing but they were so good that those things should have been bumps in the road and not deal killers, just will not ever make sense to me because they were so good and so influential to bands who wound up being huge in America and most American rock fans have never even heard of them, I live in the Cleveland area and will not even consider setting foot in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame until Slade is in it, they should have been one of the first, The Boomtown Rats, are you kidding me, they're one of the first in because of their "influence" on rock bands and Slade still isn't, that place is a joke👎👎👎.
King Jimmy You mean like Kiss, David Bowie, T-Rex when you say Glam Rock never really caught on in America? Fact is the 70's itself was "Glam", just about everything in the 70's was Glam, look at Disco (which still sucks), it is Glam, the reason Slade didn't catch on was a bad, ineffective promotional campaign, and some downright bad luck, Slade never really had a "break" like some people or acts get sometimes, look at Charlize Theron, she was standing in line in a bank and some important Hollywood figure saw her and gave her his card, seems like the only breaks Slade could get was bad ones, like the car wreck that Don Powell had in 72 (I think 72), as I recall they were on the eve of something important when that happened and screwed up some kind of a chance for them, it's a shame to cause they were so great, I don't care about that whole Glam thing, I've never let a bands "image" sway whether I like their music or not, to me it's all about the sounds that come out of the dashboard, I don't really care what a band looks like.
King Jimmy How can you say a band that was together for 20 years was short lived? And those bands you mentioned and many more were influenced by Slade, everyone from Black Sabbath to The Ramones were, Noddy Holder hung around with Robert Plant when they were young and he would give Plant rides to shows because he could borrow his dad's van who had a plumbing business, Ozzie Osborne himself said Noddy probably has the greatest voice ever in Rock, if the Boomtown Rats are in the Rock Hall because of their supposed influence on better known bands Slade sure should be.
Well said Duke. I agree, Slade was a fantastic band. Their music were great party songs that are melodic with catchy guitar riffs. I guess there just weren't enough promoters doing their job in the US. They were also huge in S.E. Asia where I was from. The fact that Quiet Riot and Oasis cover their songs already speaks volumes for their credibility.
Std882 Nobody would ever have heard of Quiet Riot if it wasn't for the 2 Slade songs they covered, they were 2 of the only 3 hits that they had, and Metal Health never would have charted if they wouldn't have charted with the Slade covers first.
SLADE..you just cant beat them..Noddys Voice is a one off.. theres nothing like having Slade playing in ya ear hole..so puts a smile on my face Slade I Simply luv ya !!! 😊
Really glad I found this little gem. Vividly recall my dad coming home with a copy of "Merry Christmas everybody". Still got it in my collection :) Thank you.
This band was truly remarkable I don't know why they are not in rock and roll Hall of Fame? They truly deserve it a lot of groups formed in the foot steps of slade
Larry Karr I live in the Cleveland area and the fact that Slade isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame is one of the reasons I wouln't go there, how can they say that they're THE authority on Rock and Roll and they don't acknowledge this bands influence on Rock, The Ramones, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Oasis, and too many others to list them all, no other band has had an influence on other bigger bands than Slade, they may not have been as big in America as they deserved to be but they're music will always be around for me to put on the radio and jam around in a fast car, one of the greatest bands EVER!!!
Duke Craig man I here you me and my younger brother ran around listening to KSHE radio they announced a concert we would scrape up 10,or 15 $ and go see these bands Slade always stuck in my head nod with that mirred top hat Dave in his silver suit we never seen this before and have loved it ever since I was in Cleveland back in early 70 seen Joe Walsh with James gang another great band iim 65 now and still love rock and roll but on the Hall of shame they let rapp in I don't get it don't get me wrong there are some hip hop I like my son is a hip hop group beasty boys cover group go to dusty wallets dot com to check his web site thanks for comment
Larry Karr Yea the Rock Hall is a friggin joke, with as much money as people like you and I have spent on rock n roll in our lifetime's you shouldn't have to pay to get in there if you show the receipt for just 1 album, anyone wanna guess how many times I've bought Back in Black just because of format changes, 8 track, album, cassette, CD, then they want to charge you to get into a temple that you paid for in the first place, all the multi-millionaire rock stars should pass the hat around to pay for a place that's a tribute to the fact that we made them rich in the first place.
" no other band has had an influence on other bigger bands than Slade, " Ever heard of Deep Purple?, They have been influencing bands for decades. Oh yea, and The Beatles...need I say more...?
i saw them way back when at the providence rhode island civic center. The lineup was Slade, Bedlam and blue oyster cult as I recall. A bit unusual to have 3 acts. All I remember is noise and one of the bands tossed me a drum stick as I was able to go backstage a bit because my sister was an usher there. remember those days? The center had some class. You had good seats to sit in and relax and enjoy the show. You could stand if you wanted. No crowds mamming you, pushing on you. of course the usherettes wore little hot pants
I went to Scotland in 1974 and I'll never forget seeing the word "Slade" everywhere. I eventual saw several 8-Track tapes of Slade, realized they were a rock band, and said "who the hell are these guys?" It was so hard for me to realize that there was a MAJOR band in the world that I had never heard of (in the USA). Everyone was acting like these guys were the Beatles yet they were completely unknown in America. I eventually got to know Slade very well, became a fan, and I still think they're great today.
Yeah, there music was all over the radio and on every jukebox. I also saw them on TV a lot. I even went to Germany for a month and me and some of the German soldiers I was training with used to sing "Everyday" together. Slade was popular in the clubs and discos there.
Saw Slade live at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California in 1972(?). Later on, I met their neighbor from Wolverhampton, Maria Godebska, in Japan. Met a bloke from England here in the Philippines that turned me on to the best Christmas song ever and that would be by Slade!
I'm afraid we'll never see rock music of such magnitude as it was during the '70's. The old school upbringing and huge changes that happened during the 60's created IMHO the best rock ever. Bands were encouraged by labels to explore and create. Today the labels control the music and in today's politically correct atmosphere creativity is stifled and smothered on our march to one world government.
Thanks! I'm just thankful for being a 70's baby and old enough to remember when we had real freedom. It's all gone now as we've become enslaved to the very things that were supposed to 'liberate' us.
Actually the bands of that era were tightly controlled by the record companies,The Sweet like Slade could have been as big and as creative as led Zeppelin, but they were made to play the role. Brian Conolly went out to buy a packet of cigs one night and had his throat kicked in by goons hired by his record company .
Zep did pave the way for bands getting creative license and paid more through the slick management of Page and Grant. I'm sure seasoned session player Jon Paul Jones knew quite a lot about the biz also.
Was lucky enough to have Noddy and Ozzy Osbourne teach together at my uni recently and he answered my questions about the industry with all the passion and ferocity of a parent, almost scathing in how much he seemed to want to hammer home how essential it was to dust yourself off and pick yourself up whenever the industry got tough (I study songwriting). Absolute icon
Clive Bindley both of them did, but it was Noddy giving most of his advice, Ozzy told me a couple of stories about his love for the Beatles that were fascinating however :)
"Get down with it" is Bobby Marchan's song, covered by Little Richard and then by Slade. But as Noddy Holder said they did not know that it was not Little Richard's song. You can read about that in this book: Noddy Holder: Who's Crazee Now? g.co/kgs/uP1M3D

Ellen R.: Suzi Quatro is laughing at him because he fell off his shoes and broke his leg? THAT sure isn't funny. I don't think she'd find it funny if it had happened to her! Anyway, those platform boots were really cool! Even if they were hard to stand up and walk in! Slade - one of my favorite bands of all time too!
I was REALLY blown away to find out here that it was SLADE who did the song "Merry Christmas Everyone". That was such a cool song and I never knew who did it until now! I remember hearing it on TV at the end of a news show, of all things, on Christmas night in 1974! I thought that song was so cool and it was always a mystery who did it - but it was Slade?!
Actually, from what I remember, it was the newscast people who were all singing this and not Slade or any actual band! It was funny, but I remember that I thought the song was really cool! Never knew until now that it was actually by Slade!
Slade were the same as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest & to a lesser extent, Led Zeppelin. They were creators of what was to come in the 80's heavy metal genra. Also add Kiss to the list. Please tell me Quiet Riot isn't going to try a cover of Skweeze Me Pleeze Me anytime soon.
weird they're labelled as "kings of glam", cause during the 70's they actually had more hard rock songs than glam ones...... my personal favorite Slade album would be the second one "Play It Loud"..... the debut was also pretty amazing, but it still had that typical late 60's psychadelic production, there were also several covers on that record
If you never got to see Slade live you missed something very special, they were by far the best live band i ever saw, and believe me i have seen 100s of top bands going back to the 60s onwards, Noddy was the best front man ever.
Apart from their support band THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND!
One of them
We all know the 70's was a bit of a glam set up, but Slade were unbelievable. and they still are.
I fucking love Slade, Noddy Holder is a total legend. Best thing to come out of the Glam scene.
I thought I was a fan of Quiet Riot, turns out I am a fan of Slade.
Best rock band ever I’m 70 and I still play all their albums, my only regret I never saw them live, come back Noddy your missed
Noddy, you are truly a living legend!! Thank you for all the kick ass music!
Quiet Riot wouldn't have had a career without Slade
Christopher Walker -Well,they would've had a career, but it probably would have taken a little longer to get there...
OR KISS!
Your Name Here ummm dude they had been going since 1974 before they had a hit!!!
Nope.... NEVER!!! Without Slade ... Nada!!! Winger !!!
Christopher Walker he sounds like blackie lawless
Noddy sounded like several people singing at once; what a great voice. Dave Hill had some really weird haircut and get-ups. Best party band of the 70's.
Dave Hill's autobiography is a good read, quite humble and very open ....and the band's members were quite well behaved too.
The greatest underrated band of all times!
why were they underrated
not that underrated...... they have several hit songs
@@itkojecockot these days they are definitely underrated, unkown even. noone I've talked to have any clue who Slade are, but given the fact that I'm in my early 20's maybe that's not all too strange...
Just a real proper working class band who knew how to rock, no better live band on the planet.
I was thinking about how good Slade were live, the only band I could think of that you might put ahead of them would be Queen with Freddie Mercury.
The most amazing voice in rock history. If it’s not the best voice, I’d like to know who’s better
Love Slade, everyone loved them in the early 70's, i remember when their movie "Slade in Flame" came out, the queue outside the cinema was absolutely huge, one of the best British bands ever.

In the 70's, Noddy looks like the main character in The Leprechaun. I love him and Slade though, been listening to them since 1971.

They were massive in the UK from 71-74. Every record went to the top 10, six went to number one and Merry Xmas still sells every Christmas even now.

Great songs that are just fun is what makes them timeless.

If you were lucky enough to see them live at Glasgow Apollo fucking unforgettable performances.
Total magic

Slade are the most underrated band ever and Noddy holder has the best rock voice ever KOR
OH !!!! I was just a little too young - but I just want to imagine being there ... Slade AND! Suzi Quatro on the same bill.
Wish I was there!
I was at john ueless ball park next to rathcleff stadium 1971 or 72. Fresno Calif. Slade was there.
Rob Halford is also from Walsall.
Something about the Midlands creating all these powerful singers.
I love Slade!
Surprised there was no mention of their 80s comeback with Run Runaway and My Oh My. Great songs!
Come on Noddy, One more album !! PLEEEZ!
"Get down with it" is Bobby Marchan's song, covered by Little Richard and then by Slade. But as Noddy Holder said they did not know that it was not Little Richard's song.
You can read about that in this book:
Noddy Holder: Who's Crazee Now? g.co/kgs/uP1M3D
I was so glad when bands like Slade and others came along. The 60's were over and let's face it, depressing as hell.
My home boy, I am from the same town where Noddy is from, Walsall West Midlands, Black Country route
Glam Days! Best Days! I want them days back!!!
I saw the lads at a 200 seat theatre and my ears rang for days
Slade was really the Quiet Riot of the 70's or shall I say Quiet Riot was the Slade of the 80's. It's remarkable on how him and Kevin DuBrows voices were so much alike. And of course QR had to cover a Slade song which was one of QR's biggest hits.
Well said Robert ..you have good taste....agree with all you say..mel
Slade...My idols....I was OBSESSED.....
Still am m8. The best live band ever!
Still
just brillllllllllllllllllllll
Slade were an awesome British band, snubbed by the US, but thank god I was lucky to have seen them in the 70s
There's no doubt that Noddy is one of the greatest hardcases of all-time. Tough as old boots.
Thanks Slade. Still got all the singles. 50p that was my pocket money, or money earnt on the farm.Slade at home is brilliant , thanks Vic and Mr Mortimer. Not laughed so much for ages. Cheers.
Mike.

8.22 the guy in the red Santa outfit looks like a good laugh!!
Oh to be a rock star, these cats look like they hit every branch falling of the ugly tree, yet they would have got so much meow meow, I say this with great admiration
What a very unique band.
John Holder aka Noddy
had a powerful voice.
Thnx!
Best o the bunch of their era....
ANY era!
great band!
Vote for Slade to be inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame.
Glen Smith: I know I sure will!
mel1nda12ax7 well thats 2 of us : )
Brilliant band
Para mi la número 1

I'm falling out of my boots, Suzie Quadro laughs. ...... 7:05
L💛ve Slade

hot back in those days...I liked when she played "Leather Tuscedero" on "Happy Days"... about 5-8 years after Glam Rock had really peaked...Those platform shoes are hard to walk in...I had a pair ,that were not really that tall...they weren't my favorites!....lol!
Suzi is a legend in her own right!
Ellen R.: Suzi Quatro is laughing at him because he fell off his shoes and broke his leg? THAT sure isn't funny. I don't think she'd find it funny if it had happened to her! Anyway, those platform boots were really cool! Even if they were hard to stand up and walk in! Slade - one of my favorite bands of all time too!

watch the film....Slade in Flame.........good movie
Noddy is from Walsall, the same town Rob Halford comes from!
Ade?. Well worth the attitude to the version but still in tune with everything. How much you know from this era?.
Ade Edmonson did his impersonation in one of the Bottom live shows. Everybody get your pants off!
Thanks
noddy had a true rock voice...brummys!
Now THAT'S Glam!
I would love to know the bands take on Quite Riots versions of their songs?
I had no idea that QR covered those songs..
In the video, the group members
heads were shaved.
(Slade's agent to nightclub).."mate..we've got plaid knickers now! we're listed as glam..we want another hundred quid a week!"
Gene and Paul were watching very closely.
Kwanglebeh exactly
Now you know where good time Rock Came From.
Glenn Hugh's and noddy
Slade were the same as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest & to a lesser extent, Led Zeppelin. They were creators of what was to come in the 80's heavy metal genra. Also add Kiss to the list. Please tell me Quiet Riot isn't going to try a cover of Skweeze Me Pleeze Me anytime soon.
Noddy legend.
Note how Oasis dropped it half an octave ...
We're all Craaazee now!
Loved Slade❤🇦🇺
Sorry guys n gals, its me again, but this band keeps dragging me back !!
6:43 Dave said "you write them, i'll sell them". Big mistake. That's why Noddy is very rich today and Dave has peanuts.
What a shocking group ! Cool !
Quiet Riot covered the song
back in the 80s.
What a voice
Yam all right
weird they're labelled as "kings of glam", cause during the 70's they actually had more hard rock songs than glam ones...... my personal favorite Slade album would be the second one "Play It Loud"..... the debut was also pretty amazing, but it still had that typical late 60's psychadelic production, there were also several covers on that record
now I know where ACDC came from
Noddy was asked to replace Bon Scott after he died. Noddy wanted to stay with Slade at the time.
Think they were Ambrose Slade before Slade
They were!
Yep
And the 'n betweens before that.
yes, their debut came out under band name Ambrose Slade
Is the guitarist of this band Russel Brand's Dad??
