- Prostagma?
Age of Empires is the premiere RTS that ya love or ya hate. Everyone's got their pet RTS - Warcraft, Starcraft, all the greats. Though not the progenitor, Age of Empires is a super important juggernaut in the genre.
Also guys I really love Age of Mythology like seriously, I know lots of people aren't fans, I know it didn't sell as well but c'mon man the dwarf guy's all like "SKEEPAN" and it's like yes, this is it. This is where I belong
Anyway, channels shown in the video, channels sourced, etc:
/ @spiritofthelaw
/ hailboittv
/ @strategygamevideos
and yeah I know prostagma means orders or w/e shut IT UP DWEEBS
#aoe1 #aoe2 #aom - Hry
"Hey guys, Spirit of the Law here..."
This guy!
Spirit of the La Hire*
Anyway here’s some math
The most relaxing sentence on the internet.
*intro music hype begins*
He starts with a red shirt and it changes to blue.
He has been converted.
Woololoo!
Always remember:
Blue + red = purple
IIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU WOLOLOLO WOLOLO IIIIIOOOOUUUUUUUUU
Watching spirit of the law got me back into aoe2.
Watching Spirit of the Law got me into T90Official and The Viper, and they got me back into AoE2.
Same
I still remember standing in the store with this game in one hand and Starcraft in the other trying to decide which to get. To this day I still have not played Starcraft.
for me, it was this or rome total war. i didn't play total war till years later.
Both of those are great in their own way. I still love Rome total war to bits to this very day, but age of empires II simply doesn't age; I turn it on and I become an 8yo Psycho putting villagers on islands while bombarding them with cannon ships
That's actually crazy...
I think starcraft is the superior game, but I have very fond memories of age of mythology nonetheless. Good times.
I played starcraft once in a youth group, but it never interested me beyond that.
AoE, AoM, and AoE3 are likewise fun in their own way, but more as a novelty.
If I had to rank the "Age of" games from best to worst, it'd go: Empires 2, Mythology, Empires 3, Empires.
Honestly gotta agree with you on Spirit of the law. I don't even play competitive AoE2 but his stuff is always soothing and comfy to listen to
And funny too. You gotta appreciate his dry humor.
"If you don't like gravy we are done professionally"
It's like you're speaking directly into my heart
I played AoE2 to death back in the day. I still suck at it.
I suck still to, but it not stop me for buy AoE 1+2 Definitive Edition pack at Steam, and enjoy that games again...
I used to go over to my friend’s house to play age of mythology in elementary school. Sometimes his mom would be playing so we had to wait for her to finish her game lol. I don’t think we really understood the mechanics but somehow we learned about the cheat codes and then we would spend all our time summoning basically unkillable units. Great game
Age of Mythology was never the same once I figured out the lazer bear cheat lol
O canada lol
How's your friend's mom now?
Yes, the Canadian military is one to be feared. The Lazer Bears are our secret weapon.
I liked spawning absurd amounts of Nidhoggs and watching them raze the map to ashes.
There is an age of empires III........I thought you would talk about that one too.
yoshimansxl did they say they would do a part two? Seems like not tho if they left out only 3. They even had gameplay from it. It’s my favorite >,
@@whoknows4780 my fav as well
Probably saving aoe 3 for a "The Fall of Age of Empires" follow up
@@WhopperCheeseDota aoe3 is doing fine. It does have issues but the de for it will hopefully fix them all.
@@Banaaniapina692 Its pretty much unanimously considered to be the worst AOE game. Super dumbed down and boring with horrible disadvantages needing to grind the stupid card system. Campaign was ok I guess but way too easy
Age of Mythology was my favorite game for years as a kid. The setting, the vastly different play styles, the myth units. And the music! People still use that music in videos, it’s great, and it brings a smile to my face because of what the game meant to me. The editor was also awesome, even if I basically only ever used it as an epic battle simulator
Dude the AoM map editor was the best. I remember going on the Age of mythology heaven forums to learn how to make cutscenes and create my own unique stories because I was so inspired by the game's original story and believed that I can make a similar interesting storyline too lol. Damn that was nostalgic.
Oh and fuck Krios
Yeah, I spent hours and hours on there, trying to build some semblance of a realistic map and cutscenes and such. It was my first experience with map editors of any kind, and it was a blast... even though I usually devolved into just setting up as ridiculous mob battles as possible. "Let's see how fast 50 Nidhoggs can destroy a Titan!" and "Let's make 2 armies of Sons of Osiris and see how big I can make them before they crash my computer!" etc.
Age of Empires, one of my favorites series! YES
Kbash made me so happy when he mentioned spirit of the law, i love that man's vids
"Plays quickly too"
Proceeds to spend 3 hours in an endless skirm/pike war
Unless one side is Malay (60 Food/65 Food 2 Handed Swordsman with Forced Levy and later Supplies in AoE2 DE). Or the Magyars (Food only Hussars AND Magyar Huszars w/ Corvinian Army). Or Persians (Archers cost only wood in AoE2 DE with Imperial unique tech)
As much as I loved Age of Empire 2 my favorite is Age of Empire 3. I loved the time period and is still the best looking rts game to me.
If it wasnt for the gameplay, though...
The card system could’ve been implemented better, specifically minus the demanding grinding. In the sp campaign, this is fine. It tracks progression through the story. However I can see how this is unsavory in the competitive scene.
But overall it imparts the feeling that you are just a small colony still dependent on subsidies from a parent country to thrive. This theme fits well in the game, though as I already said, could have been executed in a better fashion.
Liked just for the ASMR "Erectus".

Your editing just keeps getting better and better man, laughed my ass off at 6:11
When you said weird vids were coming I never expected to see AoE, but I'm sure happy that's what you meant! Easily one of my all time favorite series (even 3) and you gave each a great piece.
KBash: *talking about AOM* I got this game on Christmas and I think it may have changed my life
Me: but that's my story...
Alright boys. My phones got 3%. Im gonna watch as much of this as I can before it dies!
How much did you get to watch?
@@Andrei-vv4ou about 5 minutes, then my phone died. Then I charged it and watched the rest
@@Kimosabes2hot Cool
i wish you smelly healthy braps
I played AoE2 when it came out and I was 11, I still play it now at 30 and find the online community full of friendly and challenging players at a huge range of abilities. I fully expect to still be playing it with my mates when we're 50.
Thank you Kbash for all the hard work you put into your videos truly amazing content. I am always waiting for a new upload keep it up man!
thanks for really featuring age of mythology! such a cool game. the campaign was so well made, and while online surely wasn't as serious as AoE2, there were so many great scenarios and stories
Absolutely agreed, age of mythology was indeed awesome for its esthetics and great soundtrack. Also the whole thing with the mythical creatures/heros/powers. But the game unfortunately didn't deliver on practical matters and balance, which is a shame because it could've been corrected with another sequel as was aoe.
The population management became far more tedious is my only real problem with it.
In AOE2 all units were 1 pop, in AOM Vils were 1 pop, some units were 3 and even a few 5's.
While I can understand that it stops some kind of Myth spam, and makes pop management more important, especially since having a massive economy means your army suffers heavily. It's just an annoying mechanic and makes it impossible to support massive battles.
@@kloeft Yeah, the population limit was super aggravating. Especially when you *know* the game could handle way more than that many units on screen. Though the hard 20 or 30 unit limit on selection made moving too many units at once a huge chore, even with assignable groups.
What the game needed was the ability to make groups that would autofill with all units of that type, regardless of when they were made. So instead of me making 10 horsemen, for example, and then grouping them together in one banner, then having to manually add the next 5 horsemen to the banner or make them a _separate_ one, they would ideally just all automatically join the banner so I don't have to scour the map for them all day long.
I remember trying out grouping the biggest army i could make on the editor around Arkantos himself, so when he did his special move that ups the morale, he made everyone do the battle cry, and they were so many that all the voices together sent a chill down my spine, almost making me cry from excitement. I love battle cries, especially when they're stacked together. And i also love Superior Arkantos' echoey voice.
AOE 2 Also had this cool feature that many people didn't notice, if you were under attack or in a dire situation you could queue military units to garrison in the production building so you could send out 10 units at once instead of having them come out one at a time and mowed down.
Just found you and subbed. Great content, fun host, fast paced format yet still long form. Love it
Saw this in the sidebar of one of Spirit Of The Law's videos. Definitely earned a sub with this video.
Recently found your videos the other day. And I have to say my good sir.. keep it up and in 2-3 years you’ll have over a million subs ❤️.
hey Kbash I just recently started watching your videos and every single one has been great and for the handful of content you have right now you already have thousands of followers and I hope you continue to grow greater.
KBash and I seem to have grown up playing the exact same games it's always such a nostalgia trip getting to experience them once more vicariously through him
Great analysis! Agree with all your points. Play AOE2 competitively now but AOM will always have a place in my heart.
11:12 "and when you wanna challenge yourself... " Difficulty: Easiest
I’ve been playing Age 2 for nearly 20 years and I stuck at it, still love it to this day
Dude i love age of mythology as much as you dooo the musicccc and prostagmaa
Vooforvos
you are legit me, i discovered a spirit of the law video like a year ago and now its like one of my favourite game now, cant wait for the definitive edition
Man, how do you keep doing videos on games that shaped my childhood? I loved Age of Mythology so much and I never see anyone talk about it!
Awesome stuff!
Instwin with Titans was always a blast.
@@cv6531 If the titan beats you, you're just not sending enough men to drown it in all the blood.
Is a great game, mine won't play the campaign videos anymore though.
Thank you so much. I literally have the same exact feelings as you. Only difference is that i experienced these games close to when they were released, and got aoe2 as a birthday present. I love them so much, and while i know aoe2 is the pinnacle, my heart also belongs to age of mythology
Age of Mythology was my childhood, even more that AoE2 I'd say.
There is just something MAGICAL about the first Age of Empires!
agreed. The musics, the animations, the sounds of the weapons hitting, the map generation, how the resouces are spread out, the screams, all the micromanegement. Ahead of its time. Shame that microsoft only made one expansion, they could have done so much more for age of empires 1
I had the same experience as you with the AOE2 editor and community. In fact, AOE2 is still alive today and people still make custom maps and stuff for it. Really part of my childhood.
in aoe2 automatic resource gathering was only added with the expansion, it wasn't in the base game
yeah but basically everyone going forward played only this version.
I just think comparing the remastered steam-version to say, age of mythology or age of empires 3 isn't actually fair as it is functionally a newer game
@@Newidhan Well it was added in the expansion which came out less than a year after original. He does take into account expansions of other games so it's fair. The steam version mostly just upped the resolution, didn't change much in the gameplay.
Dude, I love you game reviews
Age of Empires 2 was my introduction to the series. I never got to try Age of Mythology but I always wanted to. After seeing this video I think I'm going to have to give it a shot at some point. You can really feel your passion for these games in this video and I am curious to see the next video coming out which I'm assuming is going to be the fall of Age of Empires.
Like KBash said, it’s not exactly the most competitively balanced/viable game, but Age of Mythology is still a fantastically fun game (pun possibly intended).
That Intro was smooth!
YAY a SOTL shoutout!!!!!! Was a great vid anyway but now it's OP!!!!
Man, aoe2 was my first pc game in '99 and i absolutely love it since, but it didn't ended there You forget aoe3, hd, definitive edition, and now aoe iv. Age of empires will live forever because its fanbase (for example forgotten empires is a studio from fans and they make the last remasters and expansions).
Also i just want a freakin mythology 2.
Very nice. You're improving with each vid bro.
Yooo nice vid. The way you articulated your points somehow felt fair, objective and yet also entirely tailored to the experiences you had with AoE. MWAH
Just please don’t tell me the next video is “The Fall of Age of Empires” and be entirely about 3.
it’s my favourite and I will be immensely saddened
Thank you for loving AOM as much as i did!
That was a nice thumbnail. I don't care if I'm late. I love that Thumbnail.
fun fact I am Celtic, French, Welsh, Irish, English, Roman, Australian and finally Kiwi. I love those civs in game.
Gonna make a "The Fall of Age of Empires" follow up vid featuring AOE 3?
And aoe 4 trailer...
@@kesk5619 there's nothing wrong with AoE 4 trailer.
I know it isnt apart of the aoe series, but Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds is just aoe2 with a sw skin
Not hyperbole the campaign is the exact same missions and objectives too lol
For people who like the AoE series. Battle for Middle Earth, Rise of Nations, Empire Earth, Settlers and Anno are great as well. I played AoE and these other games for my entire childhood and would still play them all again.
I played AoM a ton and I do love it to death, i spent so much time battling against my friends with out filthy casuals teenagey hands. As you say, it might not be the best game, but it is something special
Dude, Isunk so much time into Age 2, it was one of the like 4 pc games I owned as a teenager. Had an older friend give me Mythology a few years later and loved the god powers in those, especially kronos
Content keeps improving dude, hell yea
My grandpa plays this game has been playing it since it released. I really enjoy watching him play
The gravy bit killed me and made me subscribe
My day is instantly more enlightened when Ser Kay Bash giveth us a video of such fine pedigree. YOu gonna do them Might and Magic games too? I played that one where you can mix your units for new badder ones... but AoE2 was always one of my fave war/sims whatever genre it is. Thanks as always. You should do VALKYRIE PROFILE my son.
I guess we don't talk about the third installment...
Holy Khan oh we do, but not well czcams.com/video/jNCHwJt9h-Q/video.html
Early, and one of my favourite franchises, damn
Wow, I got Age of Mythology for Christmas too. What a coinkydink!
Age of empires II and age of mythology will forever be some of my favorite games
Your videos are amazing.
Great review
I almost drop out of my chair when I saw the building order for a random map at 6:50. xD
Nostalgia based, but honestly I love it. One of the reasons I like your videos. I agreed with you so hard about the Fable video. Haven't met many people who think the first iteration was the strongest. Really not looking forward to fucking time travel in the 4th one though ugh
You know what's in the box,a terrifying first time watching seven when trippin on mushrooms.
Love this video
You’re so underrated I swear
Thank you for making my Sunday morning entertaining with my hot chocolate
KBash: {gets all excited about the town bell}
me: "heh heh we got a low elo legend over here, folks"
me: {is forever traumatized after playing multiplayer literally one time}
I remember playing Age of Empires 2 back in 2006. Man oh man I lasted a whole day of my life playing this game. While also eating Pizza Hut. Oh the good old days. 😢❤️🙌
Ima simple guy, new Kbash video, I NUT
That was a really good video
I still play the HD version of AOE II with my siblings to this day - just now on steam instead of local. Decades have passed and we still can play this game together.
Sid Meier: "Write that down. WRITE THAT DOWN!"
This video got recommended to me after i saw AOE4 trailer and all the memories are kicking in. Imma see if i can buy AOE2 in steam cause damn I can't wait for AOE4 to come out
For those who like this style of game, one that I practically grew up with (alongside Empire Earth if anyone remembers that one) was called Tzar. I still remember the theme music from the game, and I have many memories of conquering empires that mixed historically accurate units mixed with those of absolute fantasy. I still recommend playing this gem if you can find it. :D
pre rendered games have such a charm, need a comeback
I got alwyas lost on your intro LOL
you earned yourself a sub, my friend.
I remember the age of mythologies ds version. Was my first strategy game and real fun.
Watching this after definitive edition came out. They made it even better!!!
I loved this as a kid
Love AOE2 and AOM and cannot wait for AOE2 definitive edition on the 15th. However, AOM will always have a special place in my heart. I remember first playing this game when i was about 5. 20 now and still play :)
The AoE1 slow downs is the game loading the next sound track. Because the game is single threaded, everything has to pause while the audio file is loaded and parsed.
Hell yea, Age of Mythology might not be as big as Age of Empires but its still alive and I still play it almost every single day. The steam version has an open beta available to participate in right now that will be live in the future with many bug fixes, exploit removals, nerfs and buffs, random map generation changes and more stable performance. More players are always welcome and the steam version is worth going back to and I wouldn't have put 1000 hours and more to come into it if the game wasn't.
Aoe 1 I played when I was a kid and I loved it I did not care if it was janky but I still love it
Prostagma?
Prostag ma balls!
HAHA GOTTEEEM!
My childhoooooood!!!
I’m gonna have to check out GOG I think....
2:04 god man... I am done. I will need to rest a few minutes before watching anymore haha!
My first aoe game was 2 but I couldn't get into it cause the campaing wasn't enjoyable for me since the characters wouldn't talk much so it didn't keep me engaged then I played aoe 3 and I loved it the characters the story the theme building trains and outpost to get completely unique units it was great then I played aom witch is my second favourite for all the things you mentioned
I feel like you could make a video essay about any game series and I would watch it.
Mythodea and Escape online were lit dude
Spirit of the Law is definitely one or the best CZcamsr creator content for Age of Empires 2. Simply because nobody from the pro players talk about the civs as well use math to support the use of each civilization / game mechanics
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the ridiculous cheat units spread throughout the games. It was always fun to whip out a “how do you turn this on” or “O CANADA”
Age of Mythology is my childhood!
I got into AoE2 on the PS2 actually, so good
Holly man, my childhood. Cover Skyrim and Alavar games, and you probably have the chance to resummon it.
some things, like the villagers starting their work after finishing a building, was added with the first expansion. just wanted to point that out. the game wasn't like that at the beginning but it became better and it became the great game we know today.
