I don't care what anyone says, this method of building for residential homes is superior to the Mchomes built these days.

I've been a Boilermaker for almost 8 years. You obviously don't know anything about earth bags. You couldn't build what you're describing without having a much for detrimental impact to the environment than this house.

Please double check your pallet sources. If a pallet is branded on the side with an "HT", it means that it has been heat treated against pests. Any others are most likely fumigated--meaning that the pesticide is being burned (as in a stove) or coming into the house as furniture or building materials.

+Elizabeth Robinette Seems that the Pallet not to Burn is the one with this Logo,[MB]: "Methyl-bromide fumigation, this is a powerful pesticide (that has been linked to human health problems and ozone layer depletion) used to treat the wood to kill off invasive species like pine beetles. This type of treatment is banned in Canada and in a lot of countries because it poses a health risk to workers handling the pallets. But, you can still find it in some places. If you find a MB pallet, please do not use it for your craft projects or as firewood, find a waste-removal company who can dispose of it properly" ......thanks for the information.....

thesupermom1975 Tell him him how hot it will get in there in the summer. You'll be like sardines roasting under a tin roof. One of these earth bag homes would likely be the same temperature as the ground, which is significantly cooler- than ambient air temp in the summer, and warmer in the winter. Having an energy efficient home is all about having a lot of mass, and tin cans don't have any.

I like that you're not JUST doing cob and simple dirty things, but you're using those as foundations, layering refining, and finishing with better, resources, to make a more complete, and respectable structure. all told, it looks great! I really love the infloor heater! that should make for a nice toasty floor, I just hope nothing cracks, from the temperatures. still, the paper floor looked pretty snazzy! I'd be tempted to laydown thick rugs, cause essentially stone floors will get cold easily, and I don't know that it'd heat all the way around. but I'd love to have a link to an update, telling use how you built it is half the battle, telling use how well it's working, a month, a year after it's done..is also useful to know!

Very nice. One thing I thought of when I saw the flue buried in the ground....wouldn't the pipe rust, create holes and leaks?
Not sure how long that would take. I have those (supposedly galvanized) pipes sitting in my garage and they rust, just sitting there.
I was thinking masonry pipe sections, but those would leak too if there are ground movement issues...????
I would think underground flue's would have to be at least double layered and specially coated, to last for more than a couple years. I know...expensive.
So I'm back to (sort of) old style radiant floor. Heat the water with the stove--run the hot water through underground rated piping. Seems safer and will last longer. Good issue for discussion though. Thanks for sharing your projects.

Also, from what I have learned about rocket mass heaters, you should perhaps incorporate an inspection hole, at the 180 deg bent in the piping - it tends to collect any fly ash, that made it so far into the ducting

A few years ago I went down for three months to Pisco, Peru where a devastating earthquake had leveled the city. Myself and usually about 100 volunteers on any given day did all sorts of construction work. With free/unlimited pallets and cement from the local cement company, donated/rejected utility poles and donated tarp I was able to design a modular system of 1mx2m panels which one team constructed at the volunteer location while the other team in four days laid the concrete pad. I'd designed/created jigs to make things an assembly-line process. We then drove the 14 panels to the home site and assembled them. The entire cost for a home was $500 including the furniture we built.
